CNN: “No” to Mother Teresa, “Yes” to NARAL Fidelis Launches CNNBias.org, Demands Ad be Pulled

WASHINGTON — Fidelis, a national Catholic-based advocacy group, has accused CNN of bias and hypocrisy for agreeing to air a misleading NARAL advertisement, and called on the cable network to immediately pull the ad. CNN agreed to accept the NARAL attack ad on Judge John Roberts, yet has refused to air a pro-life ad featuring international humanitarian Mother Teresa. In 1998, CNN rejected an ad produced by Right to Life of Michigan featuring a touching interview with Mother Teresa filmed just before her death. At the time, the cable network cited its policy prohibiting issue advertisements.

Joseph Cella, President of Fidelis said: “We expect nothing less from CNN than to immediately pull the ad until NARAL can document and explain the accuracy of the commercial’s content.”

“CNN has taken an incredible step of holding out a double standard when it comes to advertisements related to the abortion issue. The ad slandering Judge John Roberts has already been declared ‘false’ by the non-partisan University of Pennsylvania Annenberg’s Factcheck.org website. CNN is apparently blind to the fact they are not only running a false advertisement, but also violating their policy which they used to deny a pro-life ad with Mother Teresa,” Cella stated.

The NARAL ad entitled “Speaking Out” insinuates that Judge Roberts supported an abortion-clinic bomber and makes excuses for such horrific violence in a legal brief, even though NARAL admits that Judge Roberts had argued, "No matter how lofty or sincerely held the goal, those who resort to violence to achieve it are criminals."

“Blessed Mother Teresa lived her life caring for the poorest of the poor, transcending all religions and classes of people. It is shameful that CNN would embrace an ad based on falsehoods, contradicting their own alleged policy against running issue-based ads, particularly after refusing a commercial featuring the loving and charitable message of Mother Teresa,” said Cella.

Barbara Listing, President of Right to Life of Michigan, called CNN’s dramatic turnabout “Disappointing.” “CNN refused to run our pro-life ad,” said Listing, “And yet now sadly, CNN is willing to run a commercial so full of lies from such a strident pro-abortion organization such as NARAL that independent watchdog groups have labeled it ‘false.’”

Fidelis has launched a multi-prong campaign at www.CNNBias.org to allow the public to contact CNN executives via e-mail in their offices in Atlanta and New York, urging them to pull the NARAL ad.

Cella concluded: “CNN’s special treatment of NARAL is an indication of the unfair treatment Judge Roberts and his family will be forced to endure throughout the confirmation process. Senators, liberal interest groups, and media outlets will continue to be held accountable by Fidelis when they cross the line.”

CNN is continuing its aggressive, ferocious efforts to destroy their "brand" and annihilate their ratings. Many days now 3 times as many folks are watching Fox over CNN.

CNN is no longer in the game, but by running this ad, they are nailing themselves in the coffin.
