"I've often found that when you have to have a phrase for it, it really isn't so."

They'll be running polls to see just how well this new campaign shores up their numbers, their market perception.

But, it may very well be that it will never dawn on them that the genuine truth doesn't need pointing out, what with them having the problem that they have and all (just a thought).

Yeah right. I remember in May 2002 when they showed a picture of Ground Zero with the caption like this:

"Cleanup continues at Ground Zero. Human rights around the world have suffered as a result of the US War on Terror."

No spin, no agenda?
Maybe if your name is AL-Reuters

I'll never understand why the "reporters" are always telling "stories".

That pretty much sums it up, it's a basic problem with their understanding of the English language.

Uh Huh!

Just the news as long as GW, Rummy, Cheney, Rove, Rice and the rest of the cabinet are criminals and evil in the pseudo reports.

Are you saying we don't have that [openly partisan media] now???

Yes. The media today is not openly partisan. It asserts it is impartial, and uses that assertion to manipulate the public.

Many media organs promote themselves as impartial watchdogs. An entire body of statutory and common law has been erected around that farce.

The charade of "honest uniformity" is useful. The media declares in unison, "Rove disclosed the ID of a covert agent!" The meme of honest reporting gives credence to the unanimity of presentation, i.e., the fact that the reporting is uniform makes it MORE likely the story is true.

You can trademark a slogan but you can't copyright a phrase.

Reuters referred to a man in Iraq caught read handed planting a bomb under a car as a "suspected insurrgent".

At some point, such doublespeak is a lie and does not accurately describe the situation.

Then again, I say the same thing when (as with the Dimebag Darrell shooting) they say the "alleged shooter was killed". Well I sure HOPE they got the right guy. In those cases, the "suspect" is dead and there will NEVER be a trial. If the press is unwilling to state a fact such as that...

Maybe, but this is 2005. Anyone with something resembling a brain knows better (with the Internet, Fox News, AM talk radio, etc.). No, if anyone today actually believes that the MSM are "impartial" or "unbiased", then they're a complete, blithering idiot and unworthy of educating further.

I must sadly admit to knowing more than my share of just such idiots.
