Dick Durbin Deserves Derision--Not Debate - (compelling!)
SUE BOB DIARY BLOGSPOT.COM ^ | JUNE 16, 2005 | SUE BOB

I am dismayed so far by the Republican response to Durbin's statements comparing our treatment of the Gitmo detainees to that given by the Nazi's, Soviets and Pol Pot. I heard Mitch McConnell and some other Senator on the Michael Savage Show debating and questioning Durbin in an entirely too civil manner. It is my opinion that Durbin's statements--and Hillary's and every Democrat who is suggesting that we are mistreating or torturing Gitmo detainees should, in turn, be responded to with nothing less than derision.

It seems to me that by failing to do so, the Republicans are treating Durbin's statement as meritorious enough to deserve debate! It is not.

It is simply silly to assert exposing interrogees to cold that is akin to that endured by our Soldiers in Afghanistan and heat akin that endured by our Soldiers in Iraq is torture. (from The Mudville Gazette) Silly arguments do not deserve respectful debate--they deserve open contempt--and the Republican's should show it and they should say it. Too often, Republicans seem to allow themselves to become bogged down in foolish debates about things that most Americans think are ridiculous--but that the MSM blows out of proportion causing Republicans to fear stating the obvious. In case you haven't noticed, Senators, the MSM has become as silly as the Democratic leadership--most Americans won't care if the MSM has a hissy fit.

In fact, I think most American's will respect a Senator who has the good sense to say something like--"Senator Durbin, your contention that temperatures that are uncomfortable but not life-threatening, that having to lie on the floor in a fetal position, and having to listen to bad rock music is torture is not only untrue--it is silly and laughable." This sir, is what torture does:"

This is what the Germans did to one soldier, an American imprisoned at Limburg.

"Senator Durbin, your comparison of the treatment of detainees to what is depicted in this photo is beneath contempt and you owe an apology to every soldier who has been or is stationed at Gitmo and his or her family. Sir, your loyalty is in question--it is up to you to satisfactorily answer that question."

Does any Republican have the temerity to say this? I think that a Republican willing to say this will gain the respect of the country.

"And they all did just fine smacking Durbin upside his head."

Let's have more of the same. I say, "Bring it on." Durbin needs to be dealt an enduring headache.

Thanks for your comment, Mo1.

I watched the rerun of "Wake Island" tonight on the History Channel. What the Japanese did to our POW's and civilian contractors from Wake fits Durbin's bill. Durbin acts like a person who doesn't understand English.

People need to get a grip on what real torture and inhumanity IS.

These "people" have already forgotten what 9-11 IS.

How can they be expected to remember something from decades, or even years, ago?

I sent the letter below to Durbin via email. Here is a website where anyone can contact him. There is a letter already composed there that you can use as is, or edit as I did to express yourself in more severe words.

Email Senator Durbin link

Senator Durbin

You have dishonored and endangered our troops! It is disgraceful that a United States Senator would compare our soldiers at Guantanamo to Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot. Such a statement would have been terrible anywhere, but on the Senate floor it is an unspeakable horror. How can you think that a cold or hot room and loud rap music compares with gas chambers, starvation or being shot? I suggest you go and spend a week there, and live in the same conditions as these detainees are being held. You would probably find it less stressful than the crazed, out-of-touch life you lead.

You owe our troops - And America - a SINCERE apology, and retraction of your statement. Something much more explicit than the weak statement you have issued recently. That was totally unacceptable, and proved how insensitive and unpatriotic you really are.

Look into the eyes of one of your friends who has a son or daughter in the military and tell them your words did not jeopardize their child. Tell them that your words (that are being repeated over and over in the Muslum world to arouse more hatred) will have no effect on the enemy who is out to kill their son or daughter. Tell them you are certain, that if death comes to their child in Iraq at the hands of some wild terrorist who was energized by your statement, that you bear no responsability for their loss!!! Not one will believe or forgive you.

You have rightly earned the nickname "Durbin the Turban." It suits you well. Perhaps you would like to show off your new hat to the terrorists?

And when it comes to comparisons - how about:

Durban = Tokyo Rose
Durban = Lord Haw-Haw
Durban = Vidkun Quisling
Durban = Hanoi Jane
Durban = Benedict Arnold

There, I believe that is an accurate historical comparison.

All honorable senators should ostracize Durbin. They should simply leave the Senate Chamber en massse whenever Durbin requests the floor. Perhaps a quorom call could be used to ensure that everyone has the time to get out before Durbin speaks. Of course, they would also never acknowledge him in publicly in any way.

Until such time as Durbin asks for forgiveness, he should remain a pariah. Censure is too good for him. He deserves perpetual shame. Just think of the visual impact when more than half the Senate turns their backs and leaves. No words necessary. No vote necessary.

Not to be sick, but what is that showing there? Some kind of mutilation?

Maybe I should ask the rotten, treasonous Dickhe*d Durbin.

"what is that showing there? Some kind of mutilation?"

Yes. It appears to be some surgical torture, for which the Nazis were famous, as you know. The age of the photo makes it unclear, I agree.
