Dr. Rami Rodriguez -- another Terri Schiavo ?
Rami's Rangers ^ | may 18, 2005 | Rami's Rangers

Posted on 05/18/2005 8:44:48 PM PDT by FairOpinion

Rami (RAH-ME) is a retired American Veteran who served in the United States Army for many years, was an honored civic leader and has made his home in sunny California.

Rami is a married and successful businessman, and has recently been diagnosed with a syndrome called Aphasia, making it difficult for him to communicate effectively.

In October 2003, Rami approached his family for help, stating the physical, financial and mental abuse inflicted on him by his wife, Robin, of three years, that he was afraid of her and desperately wanted a divorce - she is 20 years his junior. Rami's family immediately took him to the emergency room where he was diagnosed with malnutrition, dehydration and Vitamin B12 deficiency. He remained hospitalized for approximately two weeks. It was learned that Robin had been giving Rami approximately 17 unnecessary drugs, which he stopped taking while living with family, and his health improved significantly. Robin filed for Conservatorship over Rami, and although Rami did not want a conservator, he asked his niece to act in that capacity. Rami's niece and family have helped Rami for over a year - Rami was independent and happy.

During the Conservatorship trial, Judge Joseph Kalin disallowed evidence to prove Rami's allegations against Robin, and instead found that Rami was delusional. Judge Kalin appointed Conservator Daniel Stubbs, who was suggested by Robin's attorneys. Judge Kalin also gave dementia powers to the conservator. Robin has and continues to use Rami's money to employ a large firm and control Rami and his assets. Rami's strong desire for independence and divorce have gone unheard.

On January 8, 2005, Conservator Stubbs removed Rami from his sister's home under false pretenses, and took him to his wife, the very person Rami wanted to be away from. Rami has been confined to his home, and despite attempts by family and friends to visit him, he is not permitted to receive visitors. Rami's attorney had to petition the court to see her client. She was allowed to visit him once after he was taken, where Rami advised her that Robin and Stubbs had him sign various unknown papers. Rami's attorney has since been removed by the court.

We believe Rami is living in silence and has no control of his life. He told both his attorney and a visiting detective that he doesn't want to be with Robin and that he's afraid of her and Stubbs. Because Rami has trouble communicating doesn't mean he doesn't feel, have desires or know what's happening to him . Rami can communicate using various methods, such as hand gestures, facial expressions, and sometimes he does form a complete sentence.

Join us in our mission to protect the health, well-being and personal interests of this great American.

"Torrance P.D. elder abuse detective and presented him with all the information and documents I had. We had a meeting that lasted over two hours. He was chomping at the bit to get this case and even called the sheriff's dept. They told him it was their investigation and he backed off."

Well, if the Sheriff's dept is not investigating it anymore, you may want to call the Torrance PD detective you talked with before and see if he would investigate it now. But I would still go see someone in the LA DA's office.

I thought you might be interested in posts 92 and on, by "dorrie". She seems to be Rami's niece, and has posted a plethera of background information regarding Rami and his horrible situation.

I forgot to mention to you that my sister and I put a large binder together with a chronological summary and index. In the binder are copies of all documents I discovered that show what Robin has done. I showed this to Torr. P.D. detective. He indicated that he had never seen anything so thorough. I think that's why he was anxious to get this case. I wish I could show you what we have, it reads like a movie.
More facts about this case:
During her deposition, Robin admitted taking a $70.000. wire transfer that came from Puerto Rico to Rami knowing it didn't belong to her, she had it transferred to a joint account and then she transferred to her separate account. She said she spent it. She admitted to taking his cadillac, which she had no legal claim to. It has not been found as of this date and is in the system as a stolen vehicle. It was during her deposition that she refused to answer questions that would have implicated her further in improper transfers of property and physical abuse of Rami. That's when she withdrew her petition for permanent conservatorship and requested Stubbs be appointed. She accused me and my family of unduly influencing Rami. Rami also told our family and friends that he found Robin in a compromising situation in his home with an attorney who had been representing Rami in another matter. Rami told us Robin made him go outside in the yard and not come in the house until she came for him. He said he got hot and tried to go in the house and found the door locked. He went in the back door and made the discovery. He remembered the month this happened. The attorney contacted me and said he had never even been to my uncle's home. I obtained a copy of his billing records, which were fairly detailed, showing on two occasions he billed a total of 8.5 hours for "meetings" at Rami's home, the same month my uncle said he found them together. Judge Kalin found that Rami was suffering from delusions and that there was no proof of that claim since Robin and this attorney both denied the allegation.
The judge accused my family of unduly influencing my uncle. Rami made these claims and they were part of court documents before we obtained the billing records confirming what Rami said.
I hope you are all able to read my postings. I'm sorry they are so long, but there is still so much info I want to get out there regarding the physical, mental and financial abuse she inflicted on my uncle.

I hope the Torrance PD will investigate, but I really think you should talk to the LA County DA, especially since you have such good documentation. They have a special unit to investigate such things, as I mentioned it earlier.

I think you would have a better chance with a criminal investigation, than in civil court.

Look at poor Terri Schiavo -- she had all the public attention, and the judge was able to kill her anyway.

I was just wondering if you had contacted the Empire Journal? (www.theempirejournal.com) They seem to keep track of and report on judicial tyranny issues. I've read about Scott Thomas in Florida at FR and at their site. I don't know how much they can do, but they will get the info out there once they've investigated. Terrisfight.org would probably like to help, too. That way, anyone who was involved with Terri and who doesn't want her death to be in vain, would help in some way, I'm sure.

I will try to contact them.

Judge Stoever was the first judge who heard my uncle's case. Three months after I was appointed temp. conservator and after many objections by Robin, there was a hearing on my temp. appointment. Judge Stoever had just a sampling of Robin's conduct and after receiving evidence, including a video tape transcript of Rami's depo, made a finding that Rami had the capacity to make an intelligent preference as to who he wanted to act as his conservator and that his choice was not the product of undue influence or fraud. He made these findings eight months before trial and after giving Rami two court appointed attorneys. These attorneys made recommendations to the court after lengthy investigations and interviews with Rami.

Judge Joseph Kalin made findings at trial that were not before him. The only issue was who should be conservator. Kalin went further by finding that Rami lacked the capacity to form an intelligent preference as to who he wanted as his conservator. Kalin had no power to make that finding, it had already been made by Judge Stoever. But Kalin had no problem accepting Rami's CONSENT to the conservatorship. How can Rami have capacity to consent but lack capacity to say who he wants?????

Judge Aviva Bob received Rami's case for post trial issues the first week she was transferred to the probate court, with no prior experience in probate. She listened to the "big firm", Holland & Knight and to the "professional" conservator, Dan Stubbs.

I'd take this more seriously if you didn't compare it to Schiavo which has NOTHING to do with this. Not even close.

this is just so disturbing. do you have any idea how your uncle is right now? did you go to terrisfight.org? If so, did you see the "other links"? On that page, there's a dozen or so organizations that I recommend you contact. I wrote one letter and I would strongly encourage you to write all on that list.

please keep us posted.

Super thanks for caring!
I am just his friend, who promised to do whatever it took to free him from this situation - that is before his conservator kidnapped him and gave him back to the wife he wants rid of.

Yesterday his court appointed attorney (the new guy) finally called me back. It is my opinion that after talking to him, he is not for what is best for our friend. He had the nerve to ask me why Rami's previous attorney had filed all these motions about civil rights.

Duh! Rami has no civil rights left. I bet Rami is crying in his pillow. He has not been allowed to see anyone who cares about him since 1/8/05.

According to what his new attorney told me, he has not spent a lot of time with him, but takes credence in what he is told by the (corrupt) conservator, shrink (hired by wife and conservator).

We will save Rami from these corrupt people. How can you help us?
Thanks!

Hildy,
You have obviously not taken a look at the court filings. Legally it is the same as Schiavo. In this case we are simply pre-nursing home - it is getting close. Where have you been?
Fay
Do we wait until someone is so debilitated as to need a feeding tube to trash them?
This wife has continually threatened him with institutionalization. Then there is death.
Hildy,
get a life.

There is three sides to this story not just two. There is Alice Stokoe (Rami's Sister), is fighting with Robin Rodriguez (his wife) over conservatorship with Alice's daughter Dorthy Acciani acting in Alice's behalf started these proceedings without notifying is two adult children. Both sides claim children were estranged and would not let his children visit with him privately once they found out of the proceedings. Both sides have been taking advantage of him for their own financial gain. I have the real story. This whole thing sickens me.

Rami's sister and her children could not financially gain from his conservatorship. In fact, it cost all of them many thousands of dollars trying to protect him and his estate (for his children). If you know how they could have financially gained, please tell me. Now it may cost Alice's daughter and her husband their livelihood for standing up for their uncle for his children. Severe bar complaints have been filed against them by Rami's wonderful wife (barf). Now they had to spend thousands to defend that.

Rami went to his sister Alice and asked for help. I don't think Alice thought of the kids during that time - he was seriously ill. From the lab tests taken at that time that Rami showed me, he was days away from death. He told me he told Alice's family to hide him from everyone. I don't think anyone thought about his kids at that moment in time.

The night the conservator removed Rami from his sister's house I was called. I went there. We called the cops. His sister and her kids and his brother Nelson were beside themselves wondering what to do. When the chaos subsided a bit, I asked if anyone had called his kids. His sister said, "oh, my God the kids, yes, what do we tell them?" Alice got her address book and gave me the number of his daughter. Everybody was crying and very afraid. I dialed the # on my cell phone, not having aclue what to say. I don't remember what I said beyond tell your brother.

Odd intro to my friend's daughter.
Browneyes you have a distorted view about what is going on.

You do not understand this case
Legally it is identical to Schiavo, which is why we are so afraid the supposed wife will be able to have him locked up and killed.
Get a life.

You only have part of the story.
And the part you have has distorted how you think about it.
