David Stern has a problem on his hands. The NBA is not in dire financial straights, rating are solid, but there is trouble brewin' on the hardwood. Earlier this year Ron Artest and several members of the Pistons and Pacers got into a fracas that moved into the stands and involved several fans. Artest got the boot for the season, but it brought to light a problem that has been going on for a long time- immature young men rule the league.
The game of basketball has changed from the days when Magic and Bird ruled the hardwood. Back then, any one of the five guys on the court could kill you with a last second shot. Now, many teams have one or two start, and filling jerseys with also rans. If you don't believe me, take a look at the Lakers of last year, who got beat by the Pistons because the pistons played together as a team without the presence of a superstar.

Jermaine O'neal thinks it is racict.
=====
This is just another of the many reasons I stopped watching basketball (what used to be basketball) 15 years ago, mainly out of disgust for the type of people in the sport...
Oneal is an idiot.
So O'neal thinks it is racist because black basketball players will have a harder time getting into college for a couple years than white players? I've got news for you...if you can play basketball, you WILL get into a college, regardless of race or intellect. And if your team needs you, you WILL pass your classes.
This is as much racism as it is sexism. No case here.
Yes, there's racism in the NBA, They hate white people. White people are the hated minority.
Why not just give them guns to go with their big baggy gansta shorts and uniforms.
Raise the baskets to 12 feet and enforce the travelling rule.
No one in the NBA can shoot anymore.
If they can't slam dunk it they are lost.
Magic Johnson used to shoot 1,000 practice free throws a day. Nowadays the players won't do that many in a career.
No fundamentals, no skills, no ability. The NBA sucks and college is almost as bad.
Maybe if college would reinstate the Alcindor rule the players would have to learn to shoot and pass.
I think that the problem here, from a legal standpoint, is that the NBA really doesn't have a developmental league the way MLB does. Does the CBA still exist? If the NBA had such a league, and really used it, then they would be in a better position to avoid the legal problems. Of course they won't do that because of the financial investment and so they get sued by the latest phenom, or the NBA Players Union. Oh well, guess David Stern and the NBA owners aren't THAT concerned.
I was a huge fan of the Lakers in the 80's. Listened to all the games on my radio and watched on TV if available.
I don't think I've watched or listened to a single game since the early 1990's. They're a bunch of overpaid children who are cottled to the point where they would be considered functionally retarded in my world.
And of course I'm to blame for all of that because I'm a racist! < /sarc>
I have far better things to waste my time on.
I have been a proponent of 12 foot goals for a dozen years. B'ball requires minimal skills when you can stand flat-footed and touch the rim. Players have grown and the goal height needs to reflect it.
Let me get this right. Did O'Neal say that raising the age from 18 to 20 is "unconstitutional"? God, he's dumb.
