I signed up for email alerts from our local sexual offender website several weeks ago after seeing so many stories about children being taken or killed by sexual offenders. Well....this morning I got an email notifing me that there was a registered sexual offender across the street. The website says he was charged with gross sexual conduct with a minor. We have a four year old child and I am now very uneasy living here. I can see the home this man lives in from my front window. And of course he can see ours. Our homes are directly across from one another. What would you do? The website has a message at the bottom that states that this man is to have no contact with children and that children should not be near his home/yard. Which is fine, our daughter has never been allowed to play unsupervised at anytime. We are always with her and she has never been allowed to just go to someones house without us. But there are plenty of kids who run these streets alone....without parents or supervision. Some of them are as young as two years old. This makes my stomach turn. Advice?

No - just about any Head Shrinker will admit that child molestors CAN NOT be cured. I am not a Doctor and I dont know what the reasoning is...Sociopath, chemical imbalance, evil..who knows?
How do we know which are which? There seems to be quite a bit of recidivism among sexual offenders. I say, chop it off....I don't want them to have kids anyway.
You (or your husband) could have some "friendly" conversations with the perp about your interest in guns, shooting etc. - that's what neighbors do all the time any way.
I find it hard to believe that there are no sex offenders out there that have not stopped, but if you and the shrinks say so...then ok, we should get the tar and feathers out.
I am not for vigilantism (sp?) ....just stating a fact as I have read on the subject by the so called professionals...believe me or not, but the facts speak for themselves..
You don't, but I do believe in second chances, with ample precautions taken.
From what I understand they are going to pass out fliers in our neighborhood alerting us to his presence here. who knows if that will happen. It can take up to six months after the conviction.
A good alarm system is obviously a must especially in light of what happened in FL.
Fine, lets put ankle bracelets on them then. Criminals have more rights than the victims.
I just got finished talking with our neighbor. He molested his niece. His older brothers 13 year old daughter. I for one don't care to think of him as a changed person. He is a sick, warped man. I will pray for protection for my family. But the prayers for this mans soul can be left to his mother. For myself as a mother...I will pray that my own child doesn't come near him.
If child molesters are such a threat that they warrant being on a list, what are they doing out of prison in the first place?
That's what prisons are for.
What do you suggest this person, or anyone in this situation, do?

A good question, then, would be, ..why was he released?
I am for anything that protects the life, liberty and happiness of law-abiding citizens. Why should criminals be let back in to society, unless they are willing to give up a few freedoms?
Yes, a very good question in light of recent events.
They should not be allowed back in society. The possibility of repeat offense is to great. If jail is not possible, then a totally controlled environment/compound type facility should be their permanent home. JMO.
