WASHINGTON, March 23 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The 11th Hour Coalition to Save Terri Schiavo's Life will hold simultaneous press conferences -- Wednesday, March 23 -- at 12 noon in Washington, D.C., and Tallahassee, Fla.
This ad hoc partnership of religious and political organizations -- which will gather in front of the White House and the Florida governor's mansion -- will call on President George W. Bush and Gov. Jeb Bush to use their executive powers to protect Terri Schiavo from starvation.
"There are two people in the United States who can save Terri Schiavo's life right now. The president of the United States and the governor of Florida have the authority to use the police services at their disposal to take Terri into protective custody, restore her food and hydration, and arrest anyone who would interfere," said Dr. Paul Schenck, executive director of the National Pro-Life Action Center on Capitol Hill. "For the sake of Terri's life, we cannot afford to wait while the courts dither over jurisdiction."
Dr. Paul Schenck, National Pro-Life Action Center on Capitol Hill
Coalition Members appearing at the press conference:
-- Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life
-- Stephen G. Peroutka, Esq., Face the Truth TV & Radio
-- Fr. Thomas Euteneuer, Human Life International
-- Michael A. Peroutka, Esq., Institute on the Constitution -- Rev. Greg Cox, Faith and Action
-- Rev. Stephen Cox, Gospel of Life Ministries

<< Not under the Constitution he can't
You know let's all take a trip up to Washington and rip up the Constitution. While we're at it, turn the Capitol into a bed and breakfast or something.
[AFTER ALL] Congress doesn't need anyplace to meet [AS WE ALREADY HAVE A SUPREME COURT] handing down edicts on the whim of [THE VERY FOREIGN] people [OUR FOUNDING FATHERS RISKED THEIR ALL TO ESCAPE.] One step [AGO THE COURT IS ALREADY] handing down edicts on [ITS] own whims.
Sheesh, I realize the emotions are a little high here, but do you people realize what you are actually advocating?!? >>
"Emotions" are high?
That's your best [Projected] line?
What kind of murderously-cynical insanity is that?
If we as a Nation will not put the protection of the life of the weakest and most vulnerable among us ahead of blind obedience to the more-than-seven-decades-long-activist-judges-perpetrated-corruption, to and by personal whim and totalitarian ideology, of United States Law then our nation is doomed and with it the very Judeo-Christian/Western/Human Civilization we have long vanguarded and must forever guard.
Hitler used the courts the same way.
The way you advocate.
Stalin used the courts the same way.
The way you advocate.
Mao used the courts the same way. -- [And his self-annointed, self-appointed and self-perpetuation heirs still do!]
The way you advocate.
The President has the DUTY to uphold and enforce the law. He is not empowered to act outside of the law.
BTTT...thanks for posting this.
That is exactly my point.
And I suppose you think you speak for Him?
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."
Be a big step to proclaim the Florida judiciary in rebellion. Though it would have it's merits...
I truly don't understand why the courts don't order her maintained though I have large doubts her case will prevail.
I think my tagline is both humorous and cute; far more agree than disagree (purely unscientific - just reflects those that have registered an opinion
Of course it advocates the use of force; but nothing in it suggests irresponsibly or without justification.
This thread is in Chat. I won't respond any further.
Duh. I see that now. I agree.
Like it or not, the Florida Supreme Court has upheld Greer's rulings.
If you "hit the streets" to do what you're talking about, I hope they arrest you. A mob isn't going to be able to save Terri in the condition she is in. It might hasten her death. You might even be held responsible for her early death. Can you think beyond the end of your nose?
Clinton did it after a court told him he could. Bush would be doing it after a court told the parents that the removal of the tube is lawful. He would be taking a big risk legally, and would definitely take a beating for months in the press for doing this. It would look heavy handed. That said, maybe he should do it anyway if it saves a life.
And the way the people check the abuse of power under our system of government is to elect different representatives. Not by appealing to the executive to act outside of the law.
If the State Police or the FBI observe a murder taking place, they are duty-bound to step in and prevent. They can stop the murderer and whisk the victim away to safety. And...most importantly, they don't have to ask a court for permission to perform their duties. It's part of the executive function.
The distinction between that and this situation is that a court has authorized this murder. Does that stop the State Police from acting? Maybe in a court of law, but they could probably act first and then let the courts decide. Does it stop the FBI from acting? Not if a Federal law is being violated by the murder, the FBI is not bound by state law in that event. For example, some states have legalized marijuana, but the Feds can still come in and arrest those that use and traffic in it, because it's a violation of Federal law.
I know this is going to come as a shock to you but multiple courts have looked at this. Also probably a shocker to you is the fact that not all those who opposed this were automatically nominated by Democrats. Article III is clear. Although we shouldn't even be arguing the US Constitution since it was not the national government's business in the first place, as many actual conservatives have pointed out time and again.
That's your best [Projected] line? What kind of murderously-cynical insanity is that?
Hey I'm not the one advocating practically overthrowing all rule of law to get my way. You want mob rule? Go live in some third world nation and surround yourself with your own personal army. The President and Congress stepped WAY over the line on this one, and as predicted by many, to no avail. That wasn't good enough apparently, so we'll just ignore the rule of law from the judges they handed it to as well.
Another shocker. It's not 'blind obedience to the more-than-seven-decades-long-activist-judges-perpetrated-corruption'. It's called the Constitution of these United States. I would suggest you read Federalist #45. Madison is quite clear where this power lies. Scalia also agreed. But don't let that stop your quest there, Ahab.
Hitler used the courts the same way. The way you advocate. Stalin used the courts the same way. The way you advocate. Mao used the courts the same way. -- [And his self-annointed, self-appointed and self-perpetuation heirs still do!] The way you advocate.
Let's see someone using the court system to try to force their view of what the decision should be instead of what the court actually decided. Picking multiple courts if necessary. I don't believe that's me advocating that.
Frankly I'm wondering if the lot of you even know what you're talking about anymore. Because you're not using Constitutional arguments, reason, or anything that resembles rational thought anymore.
This from the guy who has been here a whole 8 months? Looks like "Trust but Verify" has been here about 5 1/2 years longer than you. Something to consider before you start accusing people of being frauds and imposters.
Back in the sixties, I was all for the black kids getting past Governor Wallace blocking their way into the school in Alabama, but, of course, it never happened since this is not a police state. In fact, they are still segregated in Alabama aren't they?
I agree.
Amen to all of that.
