How does same sex marriage hurt my marriage? The question presupposes that marriage belongs to me in the first place. Marriage is an institution founded by God and exists by common grace for the benefit of all. It belongs to no one but God. It is not my marriage.
The second presupposition is that answering the question of same sex marriage forces us to jump past the most basic argument relating to the legitimacy of homosexual behavior itself.

Don't forget there are two issues at hand - religious marriage (for those who do it) and legal marriage.
I think religious marriage does belong to the people - the congregation should have a say in the theologic policy of their churches.
Note, just joined FR today and first post sounds like is lost and may be looking for DU - just make a hard left and you will find it.
So if you're an atheist are you not entitled to get married then?
Oh yeah?
I seem to smell some incoming.....
The Bible is the standard many of us go by for what is right, wrong, traditional, or offensive. God did not ordain marriage for the benefit of "all" as you put it, else we could marry our relatives, children, dogs, sheep, etc...
Society, both the religious and non-religious, are taking a stand and are largely in vast agreement, that homosexual marriage is an offense to this society. Gays are free to live as they please, but marrying and the adoption of children is what is at issue. Only Democratic politicians and activist judges feel otherwise. Even the blue states voted down gay marriage in the last election.
You are on the losing side of this one. And that isn't likely to change except for the mischief judges can do.
By the way, homosexual marriage hurts my marriage because homosexual marriage is not sanctioned by God. Therefore, trying to equate a sinful, unsanctified "marriage" with my sanctified one diminishes my marriage, especially in the eyes of God.
(God is gonna ZOT you if you don't watch out!)
Zotsky time.
Umm, guys, I'm reading the article, and it seems to be a defense AGAINST same-sex marriage. Or are my eyes bad?
hey you!!!
Troll!!
You got anything to say or are you just a hit and run dud?
I am betting on dud. Why can't you idiots ever stick around so we can have someone for the Kittens to play with?
Hey Luke---did you read the linked article?
Please read the linked article (not just the insufficient excerpted summary) before you jump to conclusions.
No, God gave marriage to them too.
As far as I can tell, the article agrees with you.
Same sex legal (Marriage) would mean that marriage, as civilization has known it for over 5,000 years, would cease to be about the family and about legalizing perversion. I can find no civilization in recorded history that has allowed marriage to be disparaged.
Sometimes I think that we married people might be better off if there were fewer of us so we could claim minority status, and our argument could be as simple as:
Blacks are allowed to use the "N" word and call each other it, but noone else; the word "belongs" to us alone.
Homosexuals are allowed to call each other "queers, fairies, fags, etc..., but not heterosexuals: the words belong to them alone.
We could do the same if we were a minority group; the word "marriage" belongs to us - end of argument.
Did you read the article? I'm guessing you didn't.
