SpongeBob = GayBob!?!? (I see stupid people!!)

I'm forlorn and heartbroken. I haven't felt this used since Charlie Hustle gambled on baseball and cheated on his wife. In a cruel and heartless world, we should be allowed to keep our heroes. But no, another paragon of truth and justice has swam off into the polluted waters of debauchery. At least according to the highly attuned rocket scientists over at American Family Association.

The American Family Association claims Spongebob Squarepants undermines our morals. And here I thought he was fighting the good fight. I couldn't imagine anyone more square than SpongeBob Squarepants. But alas, he's been swimming with the suckerfish over at the pink end of the reef.

The Central Scrutinizers over at AFA have claimed the latest SpongeBob video glamorizes homosexuality. At this point, I was overwhelmed with curiosity at how a guy who was so deformed he wore square pants could pitch or catch much of anything. The sordid details follow below.... (If you really worry about masculinity issues, use the back button on your browser now!)

The video is a remake of the 1979 hit song "We Are Family" using the voices and images of SpongeBob, Barney, Winnie the Pooh, Bob the Builder, the Rugrats and other TV cartoon characters. It was made by a foundation set up by songwriter Nile Rodgers after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in an effort to promote healing.

Having read this about thrice now, I'm still ok. I think my fiance' is beautiful and won't be trading her in for a male hairdresser named Chauncey. As for James Dobson, he has issues and badly needs to lighten up. Here's what actually put the hairballs in his colon.

Christian groups however have taken exception to the tolerance pledge on the foundation's Web site, which asks people to respect the sexual identity of others along with their abilities, beliefs, culture and race.

"Their inclusion of the reference to 'sexual identity" within their 'tolerance pledge' is not only unnecessary, but it crosses a moral line," James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, said in a statement released Thursday.

So it's their website, not their SpongeBob video that crosses a line. Phew! That was a close one. Sponge's agent really needs to do more research next time before he signs on the bottom line. I'd hate to see the modern day Savanrolas burn all the SpongeBob videos. They are the Berninis of our junk food culture.

If anything could give the drowning Democrats life, it's a bowel load of offensive stupidity from The Religeous Right. Bubbas niether know nor care what a neocon is and they really detest Michael Moore and Nancy Pelosi on a very personnal level.

However, if we start taking away their little kids' SpongeBob tapes, they will resent our interference and intrusion on the privacy of their homes. How people raise their kids is their own business. PC is no better from the right than the left.

I used to be an admirer of James Dobson up till last year. I thought he was a very worthy ally in the fight to keep conservative values in our country. Dobson has been getting increasingly uptight about stupid stuff over the past couple of years, and now this just crosses the line. I think he does some great stuff within the Christian community, I think he does a good job of giving advice on how to raise a healthy Christian family and make a difference in your community. Anybody have children who listens to Adventures in Odyssey or used to listen to it yourself? I used to love that radio show when I was little. But now he's becoming more of a liability to the conservative movement, with all the bad press he gets over dumb stuff like this. It's just shooting us in the foot. I hate to see Dobson marginalized but he's making himself into our next Jerry Falwell, and the media will continue to paint the right wing as dominated by Christian versions of Islamic jihadists (not that it's one guy's fault, but it doesn't help). Has he always been this freakin uptight and I hadn't noticed before, or do you guys think he's been growing worse since a year or two back?

If he were criticizing HBO for showing graphic jail rapes in its series OZ, I'd side with him. That was genuinely gross and well worth condemnation. But Spongebob? Give me a break!

Right, Dobsons the enemy and We are Family are the good guys without an agenda. It is amazing to me that even freepers can be hooked with the flimsiest of bait.

I don't know anything about We are Family. But Dobson is shooting himself in the foot because he doesn't pick all his battles wisely. Pouncing on something stupid like Spongebob is a good way to get eaten up by the media attack dogs and marginalize yourself. He does good stuff, but makes himself look stupid with stuff like this.

Dobson isn't 'the enemy', but he is exceedingly wrongheaded. This is precisely what Hillary! needs. If he were criticizing a lot of what's on premium cable channels, he'd be dead-on.

We Are Family can have any agenda it wants on it's web site. That isn't in front of anybody's children. I've never been to the thing and would not have known it existed without the help of James Dobson.

Some truth to shed light on left wing spin, the spin you sawllowed hook, line and sinker.

Why is Dr. Dobson objecting to a video featuring characters such as SpongeBob?

Question Why is Dr. Dobson objecting to the distribution of a video featuring such popular children's characters as SpongeBob SquarePants?

Answer From the outset, let's be clear that this issue is not about objections to any specific cartoon characters. Instead, Dr. Dobson is concerned that these popular animated personalities are being exploited by an organization that's determined to promote the acceptance of homosexuality among our nation's youth.

We applaud the ideal of championing to children the value and dignity of every human life as well as respect for our differences. What we vehemently object to is using these beloved characters to help advance an agenda that's beyond the comprehension of 6 and 7 year-old children, not to mention morally offensive to millions of moms and dads.

The video in question is slated to be distributed to 61,000 public and private elementary schools throughout the United States. Where it is shown, schoolchildren will be left with the impression that their teachers are offering their endorsement of the values and agenda associated with the video's sponsor. While some of the goals associated with this organization are noble in nature, their inclusion of the reference to "sexual identity" within their "tolerance pledge" is not only unnecessary, but it crosses a moral line.

We believe that it is the privilege of parents to decide how, when and where it is appropriate to introduce their children to these types of sensitive issues. The distribution of this video trumps the authority of mothers and fathers and leaves it in the hands of strangers whose standards may very well be different than the children they teach.

By calling it to light this video and its affiliation with this larger organization, we are attempting to do for parents what their busy lives often prevent them from doing themselves--connecting the dots.

Ignorance isn't a virtue. Have you seen any of the teachers guides supplied by We Are family, producer of the video?

"If anything could give the drowning Democrats life, it's a bowel load of offensive stupidity from The Religeous Right."

Let me know if I have this straight;

The so-called "Religeous Right" -- embodied by 'The American Family Association' by virtue of this Sponge Bob issue -- are going to give the "Democrats life" in this or any election?

You're "seeing stupid people" alright. It's called a "full length mirror."

Well articulated for those who haven't the time or patience to wherewithall to be their own sentry-at-the-gate in order to "connect the dots"...

And there are dots.

Of course, it's much easier to fly off on a tangent about those "wacky" religious "right" people out there who curiously enough prefer NOT to have their kids brainwashed further under the guise of "entertainment."

I have to say, I'm a SpongeBob fan, but Dobson and some of the freepers here are right. And I say that as someone who is nonreligious and who has been on the "outs" with freepers from time to time. I realize at first it's hard to see, but look closer and the real agenda becomes clear.

But I won't stop watching the show. :-)

Before you attack Dr. Dobson you should understand what
he is talking about.

Dr Dobson did not say SpongBob was "Gay".
He was talking about SpongeBob being used for This:

SpongeBob, Barney promote 'gay tolerance (FedEx to Sponsor in Gov't Schools)
