2008 Watch...Barbara Boxer?(Looking that way according to Dem. Operatives and Hill Staffers)

Don’t laugh. Okay, laugh if you must. But the rumors are swirling fast and furiously that the dolorous Barbara Boxer was doing much more than simply mugging for the cameras during the past two weeks. She’s was earning votes.

To the rest of the world, Senator Boxer appeared to become unhinged when she stood as the solitary member of the United States Senate to oppose the certification of President George W. Bush’s reelection. But in the hearts and minds of the radical wing of the Democrat Party – and especially among the Congressional Black Caucus and its sphere of influence – Boxer came off as a brave maverick willing to sacrifice her own reputation “to do what’s right.”

Then, during the confirmation hearing of National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, Sen. Boxer threw all decorum and fact out the window to essentially make a very public statement against the Bush Administration. Watching Boxer’s colleague John Kerry try to play catch up has been almost comical.

“Everyone on the Hill is talking about it. I mean, Boxer has never been considered a top recruit for Mensa, but her behavior lately has been so bizarre, people are wondering if she’s lost her mind … or running for president,” one Mid-Western Senator’s top staffer told me.

It bears noting that Boxer has run ads for both the election and Rice publicity stunts on lefty blogs asking for people to sign up and support her causes. The ads were paid for by Boxer’s political action committee. Collecting names and donations this close after an election is a clear indication Boxer is gearing up for some form of political advancement.

“You’ve got to understand, after the 2004 election, these people need a hero. Kerry’s not it. Hillary could be it, but she’s not going to do anything controversial in the next four years to jazz up the nuts. Who else have you got? Dean? He’s not running in ’08 if he wins the [DNC] chairmanship,” said one Democrat operative in Washington, who thinks a Boxer ascension would be worse for his party than even a Dean Chairmanship.

Boxer has a few things going for her. She’s a woman. She’s from California, a monster state with tons of delegates. She recently won reelection in stronger-than-expected fashion. She’s a proven fundraiser. And now she is building strong relationships with the radical wing of her party.

Of course, some folks think she’s just a San Francisco lefty. Still others wonder if she’s got the emotional aptitude to handle the top job, or even the rough-and-tumble campaign necessary to achieve victory. Her election certification crying spell forced even some Democrats to wonder if she was all there. “That was f*#ked up,” on Democrat Capitol Hill staffer said to me.

But still, Boxer would start on much firmer footing than, say, a certain obscure Vermont ex-governor who for a brief time was all the rage in the 2004 presidential race and today stands to inherit the Democrat Nation Committee.

Barbara Boxer, stupid? Yes. But like Homer Simpson, she might be stupid like a fox.

Who in their right mind would vote for her as President?

Nobody in their right mind would vote for her. That's why she'll run as a Democrat.

The theory in Silicon Valley is that she's unofficially campaigning to be Hillary's VP. Man, that's a dream ticket -- for the Republicans, heh heh.

Hey let's all hope for (1) a Boxer candidacy supported by a (2) Dean DNC chairmanship, and (3) Soros advertising campaign, and a (4) Moore propaganda movie. The GOP could run an aardvark against that coalition and win.

Let's see - Howard Dean as Chair of the DNC and Boxer as the nominee. Perhaps in bizarro-world - but stranger things have happened!

Do you think the writer believes anything he's written about this woman being a presidential candidate?

Boxer inherited Trafficant's hairpiece when he went to prison.

Okay, for the last time. Boxer's daughter married and divorced Hilary's brother. He has custody of their son.

I don't think the Democratic Party is interested in appealing to tiny fringe minorities, like people in their right mind. Think. Clinton was elected twice.

Yes, he does. But again, it's not his opinion, he's reporting what Dems on the Hill and operatives are saying. Pat his a poltiical consultant for many GOP candidates and does work for the NRCC, so he's plugged in. Plus, if you look at his analysis of why she's taken some recent actions you'll see that it does appear she's laying the groundwork for a national run. You'll have to ask him (screen name Kerry Crusher) what his thought are on what kind of chance she has.

I think it is obvious what she is doing. She is playing up to the left-wing of the party and she is doing it FOR Hillary. Hillary can't do it, so she has Barbara do it for her, the Ms. Boxer will endorse Hillary.

"Boxer for president...?Dean for the DNC head....?priceless..."

We're going to South Carolina, and Oklahoma, and Arizona, and North Dakota, and New Mexico. We're going to California, and Texas, and New York. And we're going to South Dakota, and Oregon, and Washington, and Michigan. And then we're going to Washington, D.C., to take back the White House. Yeeeeeeeearrrrrrhhhhh!

Hillary can't do it, so she has Barbara do it for her, the Ms. Boxer will endorse Hillary. Very astute and it makes perfect sense. Hillary comes across for the next four years as a non-lefty-nutcase while Babsy poses for the DU types. Babsy delivers the votes for the primaries and Hill for the general election. Hey, I agree they're evil but I don't think they're stupid (although it'd be nice of they were).

When I lived in California, I always thought that Boxer seemed kinda stupid, but I thought I was alone in noticing that. It's good to know I'm not alone anymore.

What's scary is that she doesn't KNOW she's stupid, but then I guess that's real stupidity. Nothing worse than a moron with an ego and hubris.

You weren't alone - my husband is also originally from California, and as long as I can remember whenever Boxer shows up he comments on her having probably the lowest IQ of any Senator (except perhaps during the tenure of Mosely-Brown).

Her debate with Condi brought out what a friend calls the "30 IQ point rule." This rule states that it is impossible to have a meaningful dialogue between people who are separated by 30 or more IQ points.
