So what is Robert Scheer’s DUmmie screen name? I have to ask because I came upon this DUmmie THREAD titled, “Is Al Qaeda Just a Bush Boogeyman?” I thought it was just another kooky DUmmie conspiracy theory until I found out that it is the title of Scheer’s recent Los Angeles Times ARTICLE and the DUmmies were merely reciting from Scheer’s talking points. So let us lead off with excerpts from the Scheer article followed by the echos from his fellow DUmmies. As usual, the tinfoil hat DUmmie theories are in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent is in the [brackets]:

To even raise the question amid all the officially inspired hysteria is heretical, especially in the context of the U.S. media's supine acceptance of administration claims relating to national security. Yet a brilliant new BBC film produced by one of Britain's leading documentary filmmakers systematically challenges this and many other accepted articles of faith in the so-called war on terror.

"The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear," a three-hour historical film by Adam Curtis recently aired by the British Broadcasting Corp., argues coherently that much of what we have been told about the threat of international terrorism "is a fantasy that has been exaggerated and distorted by politicians. It is a dark illusion that has spread unquestioned through governments around the world, the security services and the international media."

If Osama bin Laden does, in fact, head a vast international terrorist organization with trained operatives in more than 40 countries, as claimed by Bush, why, despite torture of prisoners, has this administration failed to produce hard evidence of it?

Life isn't fair most of the times. I think a headline like this (not criticizing YOUR post mind you but the column) leaves the impression that the writer is out of touch with current events (and I'm not talking about Iraq).

My question is, did the MSM really believe this shit in the first place? Or are Rove and company so weakened that no one's afraid of them any more?

To me it's always been a bogeyman. The MSM are beginning to discuss this now - which is good. Unfortunately they are only discussing it AFTER civil rights have been restricted all over the western world. And now - even if it would be proved that Al Quaeda was a Rove invention - they would never go back on it.

The Bushies want neverending war, whether it's necessary or not, and they're determined to scare the hell out of the public to keep that perpetual war going. My husband, who is the most grounded person I know, truly believes that the Bushies captured bin Laden and just trot him out to read the scripts they give him every once in a while. Let's be honest - bin Laden's appearance on Oct 30 won Bushie the election, right, so I have to wonder if he's right.

Robert Scheer is a big communist leftist idiot--he said that the four men who were brutally murdered and hung on the bridge in Falluja last year were mercenaries and deserved to die (no link, I saw and heard him say it on a panel on C-Span; Chris Hitchens was on the opposing side). Al-Qaeda has its origins in the uprising against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Thousands of volunteers from around the Middle East came to Afghanistan as mujahideen, warriors fighting to defend fellow Muslims. In the mid-1980s, Osama bin Laden became the prime financier for an organization that recruited Muslims from mosques around the world. These "Afghan Arab" mujahideen, which numbered in the thousands, were crucial in defeating Soviet forces.
After the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, bin Laden returned to his native Saudi Arabia. He founded an organization to help veterans of the Afghan war, many of whom went on to fight elsewhere (including Bosnia) and comprise the basis of al-Qaeda.
After his expulsion from Saudi Arabia, bin Laden established headquarters for al-Qaeda in Khartoum, Sudan. The first actions of al-Qaeda against American interests were attacks on U.S. servicemen in Somalia. A string of terrorist actions suspected to have been orchestrated by al-Qaeda followed (see sidebar), and in August 1996 bin Laden issued a "Declaration of War" against the U.S.
In short, no, it isn't conceivable, for anybody old enough to remember anything before 2001, that al Qaeda does not exist. You ignorant short-busser DUmmie f---tard.

This is both funny and scary. The libs who believe this pablum are assisting terrorists, whether they realize it or not. They are distracting from the real threats at hand and trying to handcuff those fighting the real threats.
An analogy would be a police officer wrestling with a murder suspect, trying to take him into custody, and liberals jumping on his back trying to pull him off the suspect. Now he's got to fight the original suspect AND the monkeys on his back.
Sometimes I think about the younger DUmmies, and wonder if once they mature a bit they will look back on their actions and words and feel ashamed to the pit of their stomachs. There's probably no hope for the older ones, but the high-school and college aged ones may well wake up one day and feel filthier than junkyard dogs.
It's about 11:30 a.m., Nebraska time, and I'm about ready to go out into the -5 degrees temperatures and high snow to get to work.
Anyway, the slow day at DUmmieland continues; their latest rants involve curses about Snopes, the rumor-killer, and its comments on the "Not One Damn Dime Day."
Snopes goes through a condensed version of types of "protests," and which ones are effective, and which ones not, and "Not One Damn Dime Day" meets the criteria for an.....utter flop.
The killing comment at the end of the commentary by Snopes: ".....if the most effort one is willing to put into a cause is to 'do nothing,' then one should expect to accomplish nothing in return....."
Now the DUmmies don't like Snopes.

The Attorney General and Secretary of State yesterday put out a memo to county clerks that they could begin clearing the voting machines.
We are filing a Temporary Restraining Order to prevent the machines from being cleared.
Call your County Clerk and urge them NOT to maintain the integrity of the machines for the recount.
Your attendance at this important meeting is NOT at all critical !!!

On Election Night last November, I told you how honored I was that Californians elected me to a third term in the United States Senate. I explained that I would be so proud to walk onto the Senate floor and fight for you.
Little did I know that I would need to be fighting so soon after I was sworn in. My actions last week were desperately needed to shine light upon the rampant voting irregularities that occurred during the 2004 Presidential election. In my floor statement, I wondered, "How can we ask our brave men and women to fight a war to bring democracy to Iraq, if we allow the disenfranchisement of so many here at home?"
Seeing no other way to get my colleagues to focus on this issue, I stood up to challenge the Electoral College vote.
And, I'm going to keep standing up.
I'm going to stand up and fight for our shared American values -- economic justice, social justice, environmental justice, electoral justice, and a woman's right to choose.
But, I can only continue to do this if you are behind me. We need to stick together. In response to my actions last week, the right-wing extremists are ratcheting up their partisan attacks on me -- and I need you now more than ever.
So, stay tuned in the coming days as we enter the next phase of our movement to change America for the better.
