A Kennedy-McCain alliance for the Bush Amnesty - coming soon?
The Tar Pit ^ | December 27, 2004 | Sabertooth

Despite the setbacks this Summer of his S 1645, the AGJobs amnesty for a sector of illegal aliens involved in farm work, Ted Kennedy appears open to working with John McCain on a big effort to find another way to legalize illegals:

"Since the election, Senator McCain has spoken with the president and many members of Congress, including Senator Kennedy, trying to forge a consensus on immigration reform in an effort to move forward on this issue during the new Congress," spokeswoman Crystal Benton said.

Kennedy, a longtime proponent of immigration reform said, "Congress needs to fix our broken immigration system as soon as possible, not only for economic and humanitarian reasons, but for urgent national security reasons as well. I'm hopeful we can reach bipartisan agreement early in the new Congress on reforms that are obviously needed."

Gawd, I hope not!! Arizona just stood up to these creeps and did the right thing with Prop 200. It would be interesting though if Hitlery still made border security her big 2008 election issue and had to fight Senator Swill over this one...

Now, I do not want any American to be concerned with the above reports because the Amnesty "Workers Plan" will certainly solve all of these problems.

I apologize for writing Amnesty where it didn't belong. Old habits die hard. Many Freepers told me before the election that our President would certainly become more conservative after the election.

ps. I didn't believe them then and I don't believe them now. Of course, I could be wrong.

Illegal Immigrants' Cost to Government Studied

By Mary Fitzgerald
Washington Post Staff Writer

A report that found that illegal immigrants in the United States cost the federal government more than $10 billion a year -- a sum it estimated would almost triple if they were given amnesty -- has drawn criticism from immigration advocacy groups.

For its report, the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington-based group that advocates tougher immigration policies, used Census Bureau figures to compare the revenue that illegal immigrants contribute through taxes with the cost of government services they use.

"Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household," said Steven A. Camarota, author of the study.

The costs outlined in the report include government services such as Medicaid, medical treatment for the uninsured, food assistance programs, the federal prison and court systems, and federal aid to schools.

It also pointed out that tax payments by illegal-immigrant households constitute one-fourth those of other households because of low-...snip

GW, McCain and Kennedy are not proposing amnesty.

What they are proposing is "the act of an authority (as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals".

Now either Webster has the definition wrong, or they've never read it.

I doubt they read much of anything. They sure didn't bother to read the "intelligence reform" bill. This isn't my opinion, but words of many congressmen, Inhofe, Sensenbrenner, etc.

Congressman Wally Herger (R) California says Pres. Bush’s plan is Amnesty!

I just got a copy of the following letter from a friend.
It appears that Rep. Wally Herger, Ca (R) sure thinks it’s an AMNESTY.
______________________________________________________
Congress of the United States
House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515-0502

Dec. 14, 2004

Dear [Constituent];
Thank you for contacting me regarding efforts to grant amnesty to aliens illegally living in the United States. I value your point of view, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond.

Legislation has been proposed to allow a blanket amnesty to those persons who have chosen to unlawfully enter the United States and who have stayed despite laws, which prohibit this behaviour.

This proposal causes me great concern. Most of us were immigrants to this country at some time in our family’s past. This does not, however, justify rewarding the illegal activity of contemporary migrants with instant citizenship. While many thousands of legal aliens wait extremely long periods of time (often up to nine years)
for their immigration status to be processed lawfully, it would be unfair and unwise of us to grant amnesty to those who have betrayed our trust and have broken our laws.

I have successfully fought in the past to pass legislation that fundamentally reformed our immigration system, and I will continue to fight toward this end. Illegal immigration costs California taxpayers alone over $3 billion each year. While our reforms have made a critical first step toward reducing this burden, our job is far from complete. As Congress considers any Administration amnesty request, we will need to make some though decisions about the effectiveness of such a program on reducing illegal immigration into the United States..............

Sincerely,
Wally Herger
Member of Congress
