Support Our Troops. It's more than just a bumper sticker!

One of the links under Armed Forces Websites is to the B Company Warhawks out of Los Alamitos, California. This Reserve group, like many others is presently headed to Iraq. These are our friends and neighbors, who just a few months ago were working their civilian jobs and going home to their families every afternoon. Now they are headed off to a country that is at a crossroads between fanatical Islamic terrorists and democracy. I am not sure how these, or any of our military men and women think about the situation in Iraq, but they are leaving this country knowing that they might not come back alive. If you are a person who prays, please do so for the safe return of these men and all those who serve under the flag of the United States of America.

I think about life while on the freeway every day. lately I have seen many yellow or red, white and blue support our troops ribbons. On this site there is a link to charitable organizations who send comfort items to our troops overseas. Last year around this time, I heard the amazing story of Frankie Mayo, a mother who started www.operationac.com to send air conditioners and supplies to our troops in Iraq. I made a donation to her organization with the hopes that by the same time this year many of our troops would be home. As we all know that is not the case.

Amid the daily reports of causualties, I do see hope for Iraq and Afghanistan. Freedom is never free, and many of this country's sons and daughters have made the long trip home in silence, covered by a flag of this great nation.

For those who will spend the holidays overseas, ribbons with slogans won't mean much. So what can you do? Many of the you who read my ramblings do not agree with my politics, but maybe you can agree on a pledge I made this evening. I am not buying holiday presents for friends or family, except my young niece and nephew. I will be giving to some organization, probably operationac, or operation gratitude. Frankly, I don't need anything, and I don't think my family and friends need me to prove my appreciation for them with gifts,

The Warhawks are just one Company out of hundreds, that will spend Christmas overseas. As I see it, the very least we can do is show them some respect and let them enjoy a slice of home this holiday season. I would like to get the word out on how easy it is to make the holidays better for our fighting men and women. It is not only honorable, but it is absolutely neccesary. The DoD can provide guns, vehicles and ammunition, but not the support of the American people.

To help out the Warhawks, please click on the link below to go to their site. If you would like to help out soldiers from your part of the country, go to the Support Our Troops page.
