I report to you from the trenches. No, not the ones in Iraq, though I wish our troops the very best in these trying times, I am reporting to you from the supposed heart of liberalism: academia. Yes, I am just another college student in the brave red Midwest. However, change is swirling in the wind as it promenades across campus. In it is the sweet smell of victory. Even here, liberalism is crumbling, succumbing to a more conservative status quo.
In an informal poll of people living in my dormitory, nearly as many voted for Bush as for Kerry; and this is a traditionally liberal university! I am glad to see it, too. No longer are my Evangelical brethren condemnded for spreading the Good Word. They may now harrass international students and freshman with near impunity, for their cause is just, it being ordained by the Lord.
As on television and other forms of mass media, intelligent debate has been replaced with quick soundbites between more-or-less liberal students and their more conservative moral superiors. The liberals on campus have proven themselves unworthy of genuine debate; their arguments never amount to more than ad hominem attacks against Bush's intelligence and integrity.
Professors and the university administration now follow a tacit agreement, and that is to avoid controversy and conserve the status quo. Teaching about such ideas as socialism and moral relativism has been sidelined, finally. Ignorance is an acceptable substitute for offering students all points of view and allowing them to form their own conclusions. After all, when young people begin thinking for themselves, burning draft cards and general unrest are not far behind.
Ladies and gentlemen, now is an exciting time to be a conservative!
I smell ozone..
ZOT?
Ever heard of Viking Kitty?
Can't change flounce or mince down the promenade?
Let it ride for while.
I suppose if they don't teach socialism and moral relativism, that does leave the curriculum rather bare, doesn't it?
aspie??
Did I beat the Zot?
Liberalism is the status quo, it hasn't produced a new idea in decades. Worse, it never reflects on its own pathetic failings.
You made me look up the lyrics to a great song. I'd forgotten who did it.
You can't see the mornin', but I can see the light
Ride ride ride let it ride
While you've been out runnin'
I've been waitin' half the night
Ride ride ride let it ride
BTO
Indeed!
No longer are my Evangelical brethren condemnded for spreading the Good Word. They may now harrass international students and freshman with near impunity, for their cause is just, it being ordained by the Lord.
Sheeez, I ain't see one o them Hari-Krishna' for decades, thought they went extinct in the '70's.
Why, It's LETTERMAN! He just gets rid of all those pesky Demonrats and replaces them with a "W."
Interesting wrap up -
I think all forms should be discussed - in a fair manner - the good, bad, etc. - and what is wrong with letting people make up their own mind about things - once all the "facts" are in -
Facts is key - not propaganda - as a well informed public is better able to defend a nation - vs. one that is "fed" information that favors one belief over another -
Paranoia, cynicism, and a 40 watt intellect. I bet you are the smartest person you know.
Pathetic, even by zot standards. Enjoy your short stay.
Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my Viking Kitty/ZOT ping list!. . .don't be shy.
Yawn. I was going to think up something witty to say but it's not worth it.
Shouldn't you be at a kegger or something? Chasing chicks? Panty raids?
Give it a rest. Go have some fun.
