In today’s edition of the DUmmie Funnies, the DUmmies have a THREAD going about their OUTRAGE over the fact that a video has been released of John Edwards primping and fussing with his hair. If the Kerry/Edwards loses by a hair, the DUmmies will go completely over the edge knowing that the hair video was the cause of the loss. Maybe a stage play called “HAIR” should be produced about Edwards’ obsession over his hair. Or has that already been done? In any case, you can read the DUmmies really hairy remarks in Bolshevik Red while the well groomed commentary of your humble correspondent is in the [brackets]:

Harry Shearer can kiss my ass! What the hell is Harry Shearer's problem? The election is close as hell and what does he do? He releases an embarrassing video of Edwards spending a lot of time combing his hair and checking his face before some TV appearance. Why release that before the election?

[But didn’t you think it was cute the way Edwards checked out his face in his beauty compact?]

Shearer is either a Bush supporter or a total moron. We all know what the media did to Howard Dean for being too exhuberant at a campaign rally. Imagine what the media will do with the video of Edwards acting prissy.

Were you under a rock when the media destroyed Howard Dean for yelling? When the media goes 24-7 with video of Edwards looking prissy, I hope you remember what you wrote here.

Shearer knows what the media can do to candidates who are caught looking silly, so why does he release video of Edwards looking silly? Because he wants to torpedo Kerry/Edwards.

Do you really need to be told that nobody gives a damn if comedians make fun of Kerry and Edwards *after* the damn election? But this sh*t just hurts thier chances right now. If Shearer is indeed a Democrat, it was stupid of him.

[Maybe Shearer just wanted to put an end to those ugly rumors that Edwards is gray. Ever think of that?]

I'm merely saying Harry Shearer is an idiot IF he wants Kerry to win. I want Kerry to win, and it's clearly unwise to do anything that helps the other side. If you can't deal with even that elementary level of partisanship, than I suggest you are a tad too sensitive for DU.

I'm not the thought police. I have no control over what anyone says, nor do I desire such control. But it's a simple fact, two weeks before the election: anything and everything can and will be used against our candidates, and Harry Shearer just handed the other side ammunition.

[At the very least, the John Edwards hair fluffing video cost the Kerry/Edwards team the state of West Virginia.]

The clip of Edwards is easily the most embarrassing of all the clips. The Bush administration is constantly looking for ammunition to make Kerry/Edwards look weak when the nation is at war. Shearer just gave Bush/Cheney more ammunition. Don't get me wrong- There is no substance to the video of Edwards looking prissy, but since when has substance ever mattered to the media?

Not once in more than 20 years have I have ever laughed at ANYTHING Shearer has ever said or done, with the possible exception of a few lines spoken on the Simpsons, which were all written by people other than Shearer. He is more Pauly-Shore-like than Pauly Shore.

[So will Shearer be starring in a “Bio-Dome” remake? I think it is time for a remake of that great classic film.]

What is supposed to be so funny about that clip? Can somebody please explain it to me? It's a guy combing his hair. HAR HAR!

Eh. Even from that perspective...it's still just a guy combing his hair. I still don't see anything the least bit extraordinary about it. Is there something I'm missing in this that gives us some deep glimpse into Edwards' soul?

Edwards should just laugh it off, it's the only response that will work. If he tells people that he thinks it's funny, it takes the attack aspect away from it.

Yeah, the "I Feel Pretty" tune from The West Side Story is the PERFECT tune for the Edwards hair primping video. Sometimes, when hearing that tune, I think of Natalie Wood singing it and, more often, of the scene in Anger Management when Buddy Rydell forced Dave Buzznik to stop his car on the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge and sing that song while ANGRY drivers were trying to get by him.

But now I am thinking of the Edwards video while remembering that tune. Hopefully someone here can combine the two.
