Tomorrow is 9-11 + 3 years. Where were you on that day? What were you doing? How did you first hear the news?Leave your thoughts on our site.
Watching Fox and Friends AM talk show, as their news helicopter hovered around the 1st burning tower, and a hastily summoned "aviation expert" blathered on about how the pilot of the "small plane" that hit the first tower may have had the sun in his eyes...
when the second plane flew right across the TV screen and into the second tower.

Donald was in the 1st building hit. He managed to call his wife knowing what was to come. Donald Gavagon died on September 11 leaving a pregnant wife and 2 children behind.
I voted, first heard about it from my wife at the polling place (she listens to the radio when driving, I listen to CDs, we were in seperate cars since we'd be going in opposite directions to work).
Then I went to work and asked Lee (the guy that introduced me to FR, and always got in early) what the hell was going on. He told me, I said I need a few cigarettes, we went downstairs and smoked for about half an hour. Most of the rest of the day was spent either smoking or getting time out errors on multiple browser windows (FR, Fox and CNN) while desperately trying to hear something through the static on my radio (never gotten good reception at work, no matter where I work).
Took me until Thursday to remember I had a good friend with family still in New York and check base with him. Normally when something bad happens my first two thoughts are "who do I know there" and "who do I know with people there". Two days to get to thought number two, I think shrinks call that a state of shock. Listened to talk radio in my car for the rest of the month, stopped hitting internet comics for a year (I always read my internet comics on Tuesday, which just didn't seem appropriate for a long time... I still don't read them on Tuesday, but I do read them again).
I was in my den ironing and sewing while watching the Today Show. When the first reports came in that something had also happened at the Pentagon, I new we were at war. I tearfully walked to the front closet and got out my flag. It has been flying outside my front door since 10:?? that morning. I had to replace it a month ago.
We did and saw the first tower burning from the first plane strike. When the second plane hit the second tower, I said to my wife, "This means war." I then broke two basic promises I made to my wife before we went on our honeymoon -- No politics. No Internet.
I wrote two long articles, one for FreeRepublic and the other for another website on "The Law of War." Felicity being a good sport helped me edit both articles. And I still owe her a real honeymoon. We're thinking of going to Alaska, which was our alternative choice three years ago.
