[history]
Dear Free Republic Friends,
My old friend and brother-in-arms BADJOE has promised to warm the cockles of our hearts by publishing an expose (the truth about JimRob and Free Republic according to Joe) on the 18th of this month, which represents the one year anniversary of the date he last posted to FreeRepublic.com and started up with LibertyPost.org.
So, as I believe that only the truth can set you free, and based upon the stratergery of pre-emptive strike, I have a confession to make (before BADJOE makes it public):
I have poisoned the well.
By my sly innuendos behind the scenes.
By my intellectual ineptitude.
By not trusting those that brung me to the dance to bring me home.
By my biting every hand that fed me.
By my arrogance that causes me to think I did it all by myself.
By my stubborness not because of principle, but because of my lack of ability to see what is transpiring.
Evidenced by:
One would think that with half again as many Freepers. with a recovering economy, It would take a great deal less time to raise the necessary funds.
By this time in the June 2002 effort with a goal of $70,000 we had raised $73,000. Not because of who did the fundraising, but because the sense of purpose, of family, of comaraderie, was still present.
BADJOE rang the warning bell, but none heard.
Conclusion:
It is a sad day.
For what was once a great hope, a means of bringing together those who are willing to pay dearly in blood, sweat, and money to save this country, we all love, has been reduced to an asterisk.
So sayeth BADJOE as he promises to publish all this and much more on the 18th. He's been feverishly working on this "project" for one full year. In addition to the "truth about JimRob" BADJOE intends to further betray our trust placed in him by revealing the names of our moderators. And who knows what else?
I can hardly wait.
Is it the 18th yet? Tick, tock.

I would like to raise my hand here and say that I am a Christian, and I also believe in evolution. Theistic evolution. I believe that God created the Universe according to physical principals which can (more or less) be discerned through scientific research.
As I understand it, about 80% of scientists who believe in evolution also believe in God.
Merely stating this point (which I think should be obvious) because I sense (rightly or wrongly) that there is a proposed dividing line, lumping all evolutionists into the atheist camp, and all Christians into the creationist camp.

I'm a rank amateur compared to some of these people.Oh - I dunno. You're pretty popular over there. ;-)

Well, the anger goes back a couple of weeks before that, but I was not attacking the person.I haven't been on the Crevo threads so I don't know about the stuff you've been involved with. When you said that you had abuse pressed for disagreeing with someone's point, it's the same thing I've been seeing lately on a lot of other threads, not that abuse was actually pressed, but it was threatened, and no attack took place at all. There's getting to be a lot of people that won't stand for disagreement.

they are being banned for the contents of their VERY OWN posts. Has nothing to do with their religion. Why is whatajoke not being banned for the content of his post# 2337? Why is the post still up? Why has Patrick Henry who made those totally abusive posts I quote on 2373 not been banned? Why is balrog666 who only makes abusive posts still around? Why is Vade Retro who insults and abuses on just about every post he makes still around?
The filth and slime on the evo threads has been there long before the banned posters ever joined them and even before I joined them. I have seen dozens of Christians abused and driven off those threads by the people mentioned above and others of the same group.
How come you do not call them on the carpet for their misdeeds?

You have just described "Intelligent Design", which is what most people believe in.

"Intelligent design" is a subset of theistic evolution, but the two are not identical.
People who believe in Intelligent Design believe that God steps in every so often to tweak things in order to get them to come out the way He wants them to come out.
IDers don't believe that man physically evolved from a common ancestor as the apes (leaving out completely the issue of man's spirit, soul, and consciousness). They don't believe that one species evolved from another. From my perspective, I don't think ID is evolution, at all.

I haven't been on the Crevo threads so I don't know about the stuff you've been involved with. I posted to every nasty, backstabbing, broken-beer-bottle-in-an-alley flame group in Usenet for years before I found FreeRepublic. The only rule in some of these newsgroups is that eyeballs plucked out of their sockets during a flamewar must be handed back intact and not stomped into the sawdust on the floor.
The crevo threads scare the living bejeebers out of me.

Ditto.
The great chasm is between nasty and angry posters on one side and polite and forgiving posters on the other side.
There are Christians on both sides of the evolution/creation debate, and there are people of good will on both sides also.
This artificial characterization of evolutionists=atheists and creationists=Christians is a cheap debating technique used by these posters who cannot abide by the forum rules.
To: AndrewC
Wait a second, who said that? I said that.
I have yet to meet a proponent of Intelligent Design on Free Republic who believes that ANY species evolved from any other. Admittedly, the pool of people who claim to believe in ID is rather small.
