Ten Reasons to Vote for Libertarians

....even if you don’t like them!

1..Libertarians understand that freedom requires responsibility. Freedom can be denied to those who harm others or the property of others.

2..Libertarians ALWAYS vote against tax increases and ALWAYS vote for freedom.

3..Libertarians understand that freedom and equality go hand in hand. Your freedom to live as you please is given to you by the same authority which gives freedom to the persons who may have different lifestyles. You have to give them their freedom to do that to obtain your freedom.

4..Your freedom is not given by the Constitution. It is given from a higher power. Libertarians understand that the Constitution merely sets it down on paper.

5..Libertarians understand that God is of libertarian spirit. He gave humanity free will. He could have just as easily made humanity incapable of free choice. It is kind of arrogant for government to deny the freedom that God Himself has given. When the Israelites wanted a king, God was offended. Laws by man are petty and inferior.

6..If you are unhappy with both Democrats and Republicans, register your unhappiness with a vote for a Libertarian. If a Libertarian got 30% of the vote, it would scare the pants off of the ruling class. They would become more receptive to reason.

7..Libertarians understand that a good society is built upon hard working individuals doing their best in a responsible way. It seems that the ruling parties think that a good society is built upon government group efforts wherein people work (shirk) together.

8..Libertarians understand that the Bill of Rights is as relevant and crucially important today as it was over 200 years ago. Libertarians even think that our government should start observing it once more.

9..Libertarians realize that freedom has many limitations. The winners of elections do not have the right to lord the will of the majority over the rights of the minorities.

10..Libertarians are the only political people that believe that 98% of our citizens are morally good enough and intelligent enough to run their own lives. Basic laws are there to protect us from the other 2%.

I am always looking to expand that list, so if you run across any deserving candidates to add to it, be sure to freepmail me about them.

"Lock anybody up who sells drugs to minors!"

And, I suppose, pin medals on the MFers on the Government payroll who administer mind-altering drugs to non-conforming children.

It doesn't follow from what I posted to suppose what you posted, if that's what you meant.

There are only two reasons to vote Libertarian:

1. You want to grow the Libertarian Party.

2. You want to push the GOP to a more libertarian position.

I think the first is hopeless.

I think the second is quite reasonable, so long as you are voting in a race where you won't be throwing the race to the Democrat, or if throwing the race to the Democrat will not have disasterous results.

Right now, though, I don't think voting Libertarian is an effective choice in competitive races.

There are many fundamental weaknesses libertarians deal with:

1. The Democratic/Republican franchises are well financed and recognized.
2. They are both operated by powerful dynasties and oligarchs with ruthless discipline.
3. Libertarianism is a value system - not a party.
4. The political system is rigged to prevent third parties from participating competitively.
5. Libertarianism holds no appeal to socialists
6. Libertarianism holds no appeal to crony "capitalists".
7. A large minority of Americans really are libertarians and don't know it.
8. Few Americans actually pay attention to what their government does.
9. Few Americans hold their "representives" responsible for their actions.

Things helping the libertarians:

1. Ever increasing difficulties is differentiating between a Democrat and a Republican.
2. An ever more intrusive government.
3. An ever more expensive government.
4. An ever more demanding government.
5. An ever more fiscally irresponsible government.
6. An ever more corrupt government.
7. People are getting sick and tired of the doomsaying both sides tout should they lose.

No flame -- just an observation. One reason NOT to vote Libertarian: 1. You've thrown away your vote on a candidate who will never be elected.

A-Men, and let me add that not only will the candidate not be elected, but a Democrat might be. It's really hard for me to understand how people who claim to be so against so many of the things that liberal democrats are for are such willing party's to helping elect them.

2. Free pot.

"The Devil Went to Jamaica"

Travis Meyer

(Obviously sung to the tune of "The devil went down to Georgia!")

The Devil went to Jamaica. He was looking to sell some weed. He was doing fine; they were standing in line. It was excellent weed indeed.

When he came upon this young man who was likewise peddling pot and the Devil slid down the beach to the kid and said "Boy let me tell you what...

I guess you kinda figured I'm a reeferhead of course, and after all this time, I guess that I'm a connoisseur of sorts.

Now your stuff smells ok, but this could tranquilize a horse. I'll bet a million in cash against your stash cuz I think mine's better than yours."

The boy said "My name's Johnny and you ain't smoked nothing yet. One hit of this grass will kick your ass! You got yourself a bet."

Johnny roll a ball of hash and make sure it's the bomb cuz the Devil's got the kind of stuff they smoked in Vietnam... You'll get a million smackaroos in cash if you can cope, but if you can't, the Devil gets your dope!

The Devil packed a bong with a little Acapulco Gold and resin flew from his fingertips as he fired up his bowl. He filled that chamber all the way and he took a mighty hit. And as they passed it back and forth, it gave em both a coughing fit.

(cough, cough, cough...)

When the bowl was finished Johnny said "Hey man that stuff was great! But fill your lungs with some of this and prepare to vegetate!"

Cannabis sativa, sweet Mary Jane. The Devil's in the back yard, frying his brain. Zig zag filled with the diggity dank Hold on tight it'll hit you like a tank...

The Devil nodded off because he knew that he was stoned, and he asked if he could buy an ounce of the stuff that Johnny owned.

Johnny said "Devil just come on back if you ever wanna catch a buzz... I done told you once, you son of a bitch, mine's the best there ever was!"

And they fired up doobie one by one They're not gonna stop till the bag is done.

Green as a bullfrog, sticky as glue... Granny do you get high? "Yes I do."

spodbox says:   "I like how most of your 'points' involve either sex or violence toward animals."

I was just trying to accommodate your eclectic tastes, spodboy.

spodbox says:   "Last I had checked, twisting the heads off of kittens wasn't illegal."

Where do you live, spod, Transylvania? They have laws against animal cruelty in every state and jurisdiction in the union. And just to satisfy my curiosity, spod, why were you checking into such laws for in the first place? Is there something special that you want to share with the rest of us?

3. Libertarianism is a value system - not a party.

Sorry this is not true. (and this coming from a guy who will be voting for (R)s and (L)s)

If it were not a party the Libertarians would endorse quality Republican candidates.

3rd Congressional District in Washington for instance. Why won't the LP endorse the (R)? He wants to repel federal direct taxation, remove federal subsidies, eliminate federal programs outside Constitutional guideline and so on.

But he is a (R) so no dice, even though the LP is not running a candidate.

LP is a Political Party that seeks power (what that means is up to you).

As a independent I support (R)s and (L)s and (I)s. I use trusted organizations to help differentiate the candidates.

The reason both left and right bash the libertarians is because both left and right in this country have forgotten that we have a Constitution, want the rest of us to forget it and damn the libertarians and Constitutionalists for NOT FORGETTING that important fact...

Our electorate kept the 'Toon in office for 8 years. Thus, there's no way that 98% of our citizens can be deemed to be "morally good enough."

Nice directing everyone to your inane post

You're welcome. BTW, I can see why Libertarian vote rolls are just exploding with new recruits -- you guys have such an inviting and engaging manner.

The GOP tends to be on my side of things -- not always, but usually.
No, generally they don't

Pardon me? I thought I said that the GOP reflected MY way of thinking. But, as you seem to know that they don't, who am I to question your pronouncement?

Your listing of all the various legislation that you hate is charming. What's the Libertarian alternative? How do you guys propose to get your agenda through the Congress, considering that you have, so far, ZERO fellow Libertarians as members? Even Ron Paul aligns himself with the GOP. But I guess he's a "sell-out", huh?

By all means vote Libertarian. The Democrats love you guys.

Whatever. I usually take replies that use insults and name-calling and twists of my username as implicit conceding. That's a DU tactic.

You danced around my point quite nicely. Are those laws preventing you from twisting the heads off of kittens? They sure as hell aren't what I think about when I decide not to twist the heads off of kittens. I take it you check for a law against absolutely every action you take before you do it.

I have seen more respect and decency, less name calling, lies and hatred, on liberal internet forums than I have on this thread.

Is this still Free Republic???

Sheesh, what's wrong with these people?

How about a little honest debate and a lot less posturing?

The reason both left and right bash the libertarians is because both left and right in this country have forgotten that we have a Constitution, want the rest of us to forget it and damn the libertarians and Constitutionalists for NOT FORGETTING that important fact...

So you admit you believe Libertarians are the sole caretakers, interpreters and legitimate enforcers of the Constitution?

That's what pisses me off about Libertarians---the sheer arrogance of their presumption in proclaiming their views on the Constitution to be the only correct or valid ones.

Here's something Libertarians HAVE FORGOTTEN: You guys do NOT corner the market on the Constitution. You do NOT know the Constitution any better than anybody else. Your ideas about the Constitution are NOT more valid than mine or anybody else with normal or above normal intellect or capacity to reason.

You're entitled to your opinions and ideas just as much as I am or anybody else. But if you take the tone with the Constitution as Moses bringing down the Law from the mountaintop, don't expect people to take you seriously. You don't have special knowledge or insight that the rest of us don't have. If Libertarians respect the individual like I hear them say they do, then respect the equal intelligence and honorable intentions of those individuals who disagree with you.

Your sentiment is the hallmark of an unprincipled voter.

Ah yes -- the hallmark of the Libertarian voter -- The Man of Principle (tm). Too thoughtful to be a Republican, too enlightened to be a Democrat, too morally superior to dirty their hands with the nasty, grubby business of everyday, practical politics.

Given that Libertarians don't hold any elective federal office, there's another name for the Man of Principle (tm) -- irrelevant.

1. You've thrown away your vote on a candidate who will never be elected.

It's worse than that. You helped get a corrupt, power mad socialist elected, who is stridently seeking to end forever the debate as to what degree there should be freedom in the marketplace and society it general.
