Not to offend any of the newlyweds out there, but sometimes, marriage really is just another piece of paper. Hey, let's not forget when that one girl married the Eiffel Tower in 2007, or in 2015, when a Russian man pledged his undying devotion to a pepperoni pizza. Yeah, you heard me.
His reason? "Pizza would not reject you or betray you, and speaking quite frankly and sincerely, I love it," he told The Mirror. Apparently, he'd had enough of trying to make it work with real people, and honestly, I get his point. It's tough out here.
That's why, when singer Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley decided to marry her dog for her 50th birthday this week, hardly anyone batted an eye. The vocalist shared pictures of her and Bobby Rhubarb, her cockapoo, at an event that she felt required her to wear a wedding dress and have musical accompaniment. Sounds like a pretty legit marriage to me.
As a bonus, Lewis also performed the song "Such Great Heights" with Band Gibbard, her Postal Service Bandmate. Personally, I think she should have performed her song, "Puppy and A Truck", which speaks to the unconditional love she has for Bobby.
Missed opportunity in my opinon.
For those who don't know, Jenny Lewis actually spent much of her early life working as a child actor, until she decided to pursue a music career in the late 90s. As a kid, she starred in films like Troop Beverly Hills (1989) and The Wizard (1989), and as an adult, she formed the band Rilo Kiley.
Since the early 2000s, Jenny's been highly focused on releasing solo albums, her latest being Joy'All in 2023. In an interview with Alternative Press, Lewis spoke about pursuing happiness and what she's looking forward to in her fifth decade of life.
She described what Joy'All means to her. "It's like joy and love for all, no matter what, even if the person is shitty," she explains. "We have to accept that some people are fucking nightmares, but we have to have love for them as well."
She explained that she feels confident going into this season of her life. "I feel unapologetic about my work. I'm creatively untethered, and I am responsible for my artistic output... and it feels really amazing."
