A Memphis man who was staunchly opposed to President Donald Trump's efforts to clean up crime riddled cities by bringing in the National Guard has admitted the plan is working.
The man, who goes by Smoky on TIkTok, said he loves his city and never wanted federal intervention. Like many others in his community, he was appalled when Trump proposed sending in troops as part of his tough-on-crime approach.
But since troops began patrolling Memphis last week with the blessing of Republican Governor Bill Lee, Smoky revealed he has seen vast improvements in his hometown.
'I was against all, pretty much everything, the National Guard, the police units... I was against this s**t, and then I seen the numbers after the first week,' he said.
'I can't wholeheartedly say they're doing a bad thing... I love my city... I'm in the heart of this s**t, I love this s**t, but I would be lying if I ain't read some numbers and say damn that's a good thing for Memphis.
'The National Guard being here, the police being here, I ain't got s**t to say about this. It's kinda hard for me to say they're doing something wrong.
'I’m neither right nor left I’m on my people side.'
He was praised for approaching the situation without bias, with one supporter writing: 'This is called discernment. Ain't nothing wrong with looking at new information and switching it up.'

I live in Memphis and I don’t hear gunshots anymore. It was so regular and now its not.
If, by that, you mean anything other than Americans as a whole, then you are part of the problem.

If you don’t understand the reality of identity group and interests you’re delusional and live in a fantasy land and definitely part of the problem.
The only group that doesn’t seem to promote and watch out for its interests are whites, and we’re suffering the consequences.
And by group I don’t mean just races, it’s whatever group one identifies with - professionally, ethnically, sexually, politically, etc.
That doesn’t mean you want to eliminate the other groups, but only you negotiate a peaceful coexistence.
