The West may now have no option but to attack Iran
The Telegraph (London) ^ | December 28, 2023 | John Bolton

Posted on 12/29/2023 3:59:55 AM PST by Jim Noble

Houthi attacks on commercial shipping and US Navy vessels in the Red Sea threaten the global economy, endangering the vital Suez Canal trade route. As if 14 such attacks in the past month, and against Israel directly, were not enough, Iran has now joined the fray...

This marks the first time since October 7 that Washington has directly blamed Iran...

Just after Christmas, however, Iran committed the classic “Washington gaffe” – i.e., telling the truth accidentally – when the Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly described Hamas’s barbaric assault as “one of the acts of revenge for the assassination of General [Qassem] Soleimani by the US and the Zionists”. Hamas immediately denied the linkage, no more credibly than the Revolutionary Guard Corps’ subsequent effort to walk back its revealing “revenge” declaration...

The Biden administration, much of the media, and Iran’s propagandists will probably continue ignoring the reality of who is calling the shots in this conflict. But the evidence is growing inexorably that October 7 was intended to draw Jewish blood to implement Soleimani’s “ring of fire” strategy, with Iran pressing Israel on multiple fronts, directing operations via terrorists and state actors it has armed, trained, and financed...

It has been clear for years that overthrowing the mullahs, , is central to decreasing insecurity throughout the Middle East. Arab funding of terrorist actions against Israel is hard to find today, especially as full, open diplomatic relations with Jerusalem continue to expand. If Iran’s line of credit to the likes of Hamas, Hizbollah, the Houthis, and other barbarians disappears, their ability to survive except in remote Afghan encampments will palpably decrease...

Re: 3 - we currently do need oil from the Middle East.

I believe we do and have needed that oil going back many decades.

That said, we do need to wean ourselves from Middle East oil. My guess is that it will take about 10-20 years. But we should start now.

Why would you want to be left out of destroying the Islamic Republic of Iran?

Because the thesis - that the poor Persians are just waiting for the US to provide them with regime change AND that this is something that can be done with our existing resources AND that the resulting state will be better FOR THE UNITED STATES than what exists now is almost certainly false. This is the same deceptive neocon lie that has cost us thousands of lives, tens of thousands maimed, and a world less safe than when we started while distracting us from the border invasion which IS a national crisis.

Regime change in the Middle East? No thanks. Never again.

We have people pushing for war with Russia. China appears to have invasion plans for Taiwan. And now people are pushing for war with Iran. Didn’t we have to pressure Japan to give back Patriot missile systems so we could give them to Ukraine. The USA seems to be in short supply of main weapon systems. What we still have is nukes. Is that the goal of the leftist depopulation crowd?

John Bolton. LOL.

It’s very telling that this loser’s reputation is in the dumpster even here on FR.

We need oil from the ME unless and until we resume extraction and production of our own petroleum products.

Drill, baby, drill.

Wow. I don’t have the time to correct all that’s wrong with that. If you keep looking at it as “regime change” instead of killing our enemy - the people who are still injuring & killing Americans - then it will never stop. Get the “regime change” meme out of your head.
They are the enemy. We’re being attacked. Apparently you want to sit back & watch.

Same goes for the border. We are being invaded & it’s a national crisis, I agree. But stopping the invasion doesn’t mean we can’t or shouldn’t protect ourselves elsewhere.
We can walk & chew gum at the same time under the right leadership

They must do this, they must do that.

Dealing with Iran is simple. Next time the Iranians are behind an attack on US, respond by destroying taking out one of their leaders. Then, the next time take out another.
The third time ‘Iranian Parliament’ in the middle of a working day with multiple 2000lb bombs.

They understand force, certainly the ‘negotiations and payouts’ of Carter, Obama, and Biden have only made things worse.

Well, the White Hospice and the MSM have certainly ignored the 'Washington Gaffe', because it was President Trump who took out Soleimani lululululuuuuu!

HE's coming back for more, you dirty Persian stone lickers!

“We’re being attacked” is a rant that rings hollow in a country that has been meddling in the affairs of other nations all over the face of the earth for decades. You don’t deliberately put people in harm’s way for no damn good reason … and then whine about it when they are — well, harmed.
