Maryland Gov. Wes Moore was sworn in as the state’s first (b)lack governor on Wednesday, punctuating his inauguration with references to (b)lack history that included an acknowledgement of the enslaved people who once arrived by ship near the state Capitol.
Before his inaugural speech, Moore attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Annapolis City Dock, which was once a regional slave port and the site of a memorial to enslaved African Kunta Kinte, who arrived there in 1767 and was written about in Alex Haley’s book “Roots.”
Moore was joined by other (b)lack leaders at the ceremony on a bright sunny morning, including Maryland Rep. Kweisi Mfume, Attorney General Anthony Brown, former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, and former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, who was the second (b)lack governor elected in the nation’s history in 2006. Virginia’s Douglas Wilder was the first (b)lack governor elected in 1989, and Moore is the nation’s third.
“I feel lifted up and encouraged that (b)lack talent has been recognized and has an opportunity to come forward,” Patrick said in an interview with The Associated Press after the ceremony.
Steele, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee who was Maryland’s first (b)lack candidate elected statewide, described the inauguration as an exciting day for the state. …

Oh, and titles of books are underlined ...
In passing this Wes Moore wrote an interesting book, ‘The Other Wes Moore’ about a black guy that grew up in the same Baltimore inner suburb he did and were the same age and the ‘other’ Wes Moore is doing life with no parole for a robbery murder and how did it happen. Mostly the new govs family were hard working upwardly mobile professionals and the ‘other’ Wes had the usual ghetto family with a half assed matriarchy and zero emphasis on education and behavior.
Thanks for uncapitalizing black.
Except Alex Haley made it all up.
What a line-up.
Interesting. Might be worth a read.

Interesting, I prefer “proper” annotations primarily since it most often concerns the individual’s race and not color. If there’s no intended racial component to the editorial, then the color shouldn’t be mentioned at all — because in my opinion, it’s ironically racist.
* it is, ironically, racist
Wes Less.
He also plagiarized some of it too.
There goes the neighborhood.
From what I hear 50% of the prison population will be released and based on race.
Hogan might have been a gratuitous RINO at the national level but at the state level he did much to keep the lid on taxes. With this new DemocRAT governor (supported by the solidly DemocRAT legislature) there will be no restraints on the madness that will now prevail in Maryland.
Time to finally think about fleeing.
Ho hum. I had BLT for lunch today in Baltimore.
Haleys book was not only fictional it was plagiarized. There was no such person named Kunta Kinte. It was all a scam. He got caught and had to pay big bucks.
