Leslie Nielson got the best “kick start” on a movie career ever with “Airplane”.
The other Police Squad stuff is not bad.

I saw Airplane with my 10 year old nephew in the theater when it first came out. I hadn’t laughed that hare since Jimmy Durante kicked the bucket in It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World which I saw in the special “Cinerama” theater in Boston. Cinerama was a super wide screen with three synchronized reels on a curved screen that happened in the early 60s.
I suppose it was the same, pun based, comedy that the Zuckers brought to Airplane. Monty Python was the same sort of comedy.

I came across an episode of Green Acres within the week. A word was muted (perhaps the same word, twice) during the dialog. I am not sure who decides what level of standards are permitted in contemporary TV but the show was one of the best sitcoms produced.
