It also looks like the cop lied about being hit by the car.
Officer claimed the open car door hit him as Cantu backed up.
I know McDonald’s isn’t healthy but it’s not a crime. Yet.
Just following the feral government’s lead.
Somebody said you did something so the FIB can kick down your door and drag you out in the middle of the night and kill you if you resist.
Blatent lie.
They need to put him in jail.
.
that was flat out murder by the cop.
I just spent three months on a grand jury.
We had a guy who demanded to see cop cams on every case where they stayed body cams were turned on. That made sense to me and we got a majority of jurors to join us. By the second month we saw body cam video on every case where it was warranted.
The cops do a good job. It was good to be able to see that three or four times a day. The DA hated it because their video equipment in the grand jury room sucked.
Body cams keep everyone safe.
Well, it is clear why that clown became a cop.
The officer acted like a carjacker the entire time and recorded all of it. San Antonio and the SAPD are going to settle out of court as fast as they can over this.
This 17 y/o may survive and mostly heal up, but chances are he will suffer from those belly wounds for the rest of his life. Might even need a catheter.
If his pelvis (hipbone) was nicked, he will need to relearn how to walk within constraints of his New Normal.
A spinal injury could eliminate any walking at all, at least for a while.
The officer thought the car was the same one that evaded him the night before when he attempted to stop the vehicle as the registered license plate didn’t match the vehicle.
so he ran the plate to check... right???
Not sure how this will play out. Cops are entitled to due process. I understand that he can be fired based on his alleged probationary status.
That kid (punk?) seems to have disobeyed a lawfully given order. (I did not say the disregard of that order justified the shooting.) And supposedly the kid (punk?) was stalling so as to delay compliance with the order.
I can remember a time when during a traffic stop it was prudent to ask the officer’s permission to retrieve the vehicle registration and/or proof of insurance from the glove box.
BTW - this rookie cop had to know his body cam was recording. Several things not making sense here.
I wonder where we will be able to get all the facts.
Cop opens door and commands burger-boy... to get out of the car.
Burger-boy had a look of being busted, not frightened. Instead of complying with the cops command, burger-boy stupidly responded by putting car in reverse and began backing up with the door still swung open. Not a hasty retreat, but a modest controlled reverse. The door caught the cop, which then caused the cop to free himself from the path of the door, and draw his gun.
The cop drew his gun in defense of the car door catching him, believing that burger boy’s actions were a direct assault on the cop in order to evade being detained.
Burger-boy definitely was not frightened or desperate for his life. He actually behaved offhand and with disregard towards the cops command to “get out of the car’... and more like an “F. U.” Burger-boy continued without hesitation to back up, closed the door and leave while his burger and car were fired upon.
Did the cop error in judgement? - Don’t know, unclear circumstances, unclear audio and visual.
Did burger-boy error in judgement? - Definitely.
Did the cop have justification to open fire upon burger-boy? - Yes, if the cop felt clear endangerment by burger-boy or burger-boy gave the cop a reason to draw his gun and stop a fleeing suspect.
Reminds me of a young girl that was set up by the police in Hollywood Florida a few years ago.
Yep video was damning
Since when is a cop allowed to open my car door, my property, without my permission or probable cause?
The kid was literally eating a burger when an unknown assailant threw his door open and started firing.
The cop never identified himself as a police officer.
Sorry, if that were me, I’d do the same... tho I would’ve been trying to kill the mystery assailant with the car before he killed me.
Did this rookie even go into the McDonald’s or just spots a car that might have run from him the night before??? Why open the car door just knock on the window
The audio stops after the cop says the word “license”, sounded like he was calling in the plate before he got to the car and opened the door. If the kid didn’t do anything, all he had to do was get out of the car when told to instead of taking off. Reserving judgment until a follow up story, if any.
I saw the bodycam footage. It’s a bad shoot. I think he might even get prosecuted for it.
CC
I made a right on red in WV last week with no one in sight, save a lone car about a 1/4 mile away at a traffic light.
Seconds later, a WV SP car came up behind me in the middle, then shot into the left lane and nearly sideswiped me to get into the right lane.
As I pulled into the parking lot, on came the lights and the little “I need to prove something” cop screamed at me that I just nearly “caused two vehicular accidents by running the red light”.
[since no one else was around, I have to assume he meant the near collision of almost hitting ME with his car]
Then he asked me if I had any illegal stuff in my car, like heroin or fentanyl.
[who on earth ever says “yeah” to that question??]
Then he thought he had me good as he yelled “your registration is expired!!!”.
Bummer that the old card was simply still in the packet on top of the new valid one.
Said the f word several times and wanted to know what that was in my handbag.
[Ziploc bag of home rolled smokes, so disappointing]
Said if he “ever saw me again, he would not be so merciful” and let me go.
Yes, it was the end of the month/quota time and the older cop on hubby’s side of the car looked embarrassed.
Thank God I did not have a dog in the car.
