President Joe Biden will order more oil released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as gas prices are on the rise and OPEC announced it was making its biggest cuts in production in more than two years.
Biden will release another 10 million barrels this month and he will 'continue to direct SPR releases as appropriate to protect American consumers and promote energy security,' White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and economic adviser Brian Deese said in a joint statement.
In the statement, the administration also called on oil companies to 'keep bringing pump prices down by closing the historically large gap between wholesale and retail gas prices.'
The administration continued to renew its call to decrease the country's dependance on fossil fuels and warned it will work with Congress on ways 'to reduce OPEC's control over energy prices.'
Earlier this week, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said there were no plans to continue releases from the strategic reserve
Gas prices, which had been on a 99-day decline, have jumped in recent days by as much as 60 cents per gallon in some regions of the country.
But the announcement of Wednesday's release from the reserves came after the OPEC Plus energy alliance announced the production cuts in an affort to raise prices as Russian President Vladimir Putin continues his invasion of the Ukraine.
Biden and European leaders have urged more oil production to give consumers some relief at the pump and to punish Putin for his invasion.
The president has overseen the largest sale of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve ever in the wake of Russian invasion of Ukraine. Biden has released 160 million barrels of crude since March, bringing the reserves to its lowest levels in four decades

I agree on both of your Jill Biden points.
The woman is scum and she dresses like a street walker. Not joking!
Can somebody please point out what is wrong with this sentence? Since this is FR, it won't take long.
"Can somebody please point out what is wrong with this sentence?"
Two things. 1) Biden is not "FINALLY" spending the emergency reserve; this is a pattern. 2) This is not boosting production.
She’s definitely colluding with the Russians to come up with those awful outfits.
Yeah. This ain’t boosting production. It’s leaving us without any cushion for a sudden shock. It’s criminal malfeasance. High crimes and misdemeanors.
dont we burn through 20 ,million per day or soemthing?”
“dont we burn through 20 ,million per day or soemthing?””
You are missing the ‘nuances’
my nuance detector is broken
“Production...”
Government maff
Typical democrat play. Take something someone else produced and give it to someone who produced nothing in exchange for votes.
The US uses about 20 million barrels a day, so what they’re releasing is about half a day’s worth.
Move on already
Option 1: Haul water in by tanker.
Option 2: It's common that there's a second or third aquifer in addition to the depth the existing well is located. If there's a deeper aquifer, extend the existing well. Compare the capital cost of extending the well depth versus the operating cost of hauling. If there's a shallower aquifer, the water is likely to be lower quality. Water treatment technologies may or may not be economically competitive to the cost of hauling.
Consult with a well digger or water witcher in the area regarding typical aquifer availability in the area. Good chance the local well digger is or knows local witchers of good reputation. Alternative is to engage a local and higher $$$ hydrogeologist.
Option 3: Sell out as a friendly repo. It's usually a better deal to the mortgage company than a homeowner taking a walk because the water hauling cost is too great for the homeowner to sustain. Possible that the value of the land alone would be a better negotiated outcome than the hassle of a total walk away and the homeowner may take a lessor hit to credit rating.
He’ll turn it over to administration cronies who will then sell it on the world market. Some help...
Now, the GOP needs to grow some nads and sue the bastard for using the SPR as an election vote booster to get the communist RATS more votes. If that isn’t illegal, it should be.
“The administration ... warned it will work with Congress on ways ‘to reduce OPEC’s control over energy prices.’ “
How will they manage that?
DRAINING the SPR is NOT helping us!! It’s downright DANGEROUS to our SECURITY!
Wasn’t he just complaining that OPEC’s actions were short-sighted?
