Maybe her mom never got the memo that the boycotts had been cancelled.

People never learn. McGovern did the same stupid thing with Chavez and the lettuce pickers during his run for the Presidency. In a photo op, he told reporters that he wasn’t going to eat lettuce until the pickers’ union got their demands.
Stupid move.
He should have done exactly the opposite. With a boycott, the demand for lettuce falls and give an almost vertical supply curve in the short run, the price will fall dramatically. Now the farmer has even less money to pay a higher wage. Indeed, he may just plow the crop under to fertilize the soil.
However, had McGovern said “I’m going to eat 5 salads a day and I hope you’ll join me!”, the demand curve shifts up dramatically and the price increases. Now the farmer not only has more money to meet the demands, but the cost of letting the lettuce rot in the field is a lot more expensive because of the price rise.
I know this is way above Kamala’s head, but she should at least try to learn from others’ past mistakes.
