NY and Boston face coldest temperatures since 2019 and up to two feet of snow Tuesday: More than 15MILLION are under wind chill alerts as East Coast temperatures dip 45 below zero
Daily Mail ^

A powerful cold front is expected to rip through the Northeast and Midwest this week, with extreme temperatures reaching as low as -45 degrees as the US braces for the coldest air chill in three years.

More than 15 million people are under wind chill advisories after temperatures plummeted to -25 to -45 degrees on Monday.

The National Weather Service also warns that parts of northern New York and Massachusetts could see wind chills of between 35 and 40 below zero between 7pm Monday to 3pm on Tuesday that could cause 'frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.'

Buffalo, New York, could also have significant snowfall on Monday night, with up to three feet of snow. Even New York City will see temperatures fall to as low at 17F but with wind chill it'll feel as cold as 0F.

The bitter cold is expected to be present in the North Central states on Monday night too, with temperatures in Chicago expected to remain in the mid teens, according to AccuWeather. The Windy City usually has temperatures right around the freezing mark at this time of the year.

Cities further up north, like Duluth, Minnesota and Grand Forks, North Dakota, won't have their temperatures rise above zero degrees all day on Monday, AccuWeather forecasters predict. But according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Mary Gilbert, 'the coldest air of the season thus far will arrive for a majority of the Northeast and portions of the mid-Atlantic by Tuesday as arctic air plunges into the northern US.'

The coldest wind chill values will likely occur between 2am and 11am on Tuesday, the National Weather Service predicts.

This “two feet of snow” they are talking about is just localized snow belt amounts near Syracuse NY, there isn’t going to be any significant snow along the east coast for at least a week. People are watching a couple of storm threats around a week from now, at the moment neither looks to be more than a few inches with the heavier snow heading for eastern Canada.

The Daily Mail sometimes covers news in the USA better than our own main stream media. But they don't seem to be very good with geography or weather.

The lowest temperature forecast for Boston is 10 degrees early tomorrow morning. New York, NY is forecast to have a low of 17 degrees. Currently it is around -2 degrees at the far northern part of New Hampshire. The Daily Mail's writers seem a bit confused.

We are not forecast to have any snow, and the winds are not likely to be sufficient to cause wind chills anywhere near -45 degrees, unless they are talking about Mt. Washington.

This evening it is -15F with 70 mph wind gusting to 81 on the summit. That's cold, but pretty mild for Mt. Washington.

You do know these are -25C and -45C but our weather forecasts for the next ten days is not anywhere near that cold for Boston. I found a 2F on Friday night on Weather.com. Maybe the 15 MPH wind makes it feel colder. Anyway this is no big deal if you live here.

Buffalo, New York, could also have significant snowfall on Monday night, with up to three feet of snow.

AKA, a regular winter storm in Buffalo.

I once got to enjoy a week or so of Edmonton winter. I recall car tires which had a flat spot from parking which persisted for a few miles... This was at -45 deg (nearly the same in farenheit and celsius).

The coldest, snowiest, most awful storm in three years! Oh my, whatever shall we do? How did people before survive in the olden days before 2019?

Snow in Buffalo?

This is news?????

They made it sound like Boston and NYC were going to get the 2-3 feet of snow.

Buffalo is on the other side of the state, like hundreds of miles away, at least an 8 hour car ride.

With all due respect, that’s a little more than two feet, as it includes the ankles, and some shins and calves.

It’s also why Canadians don’t really really need healthcare. Our winters kill off the weak and the rest that are left are immune to anything that should kill a human.

We had our artic blast 2 weeks ago here in Eastern Washington. It was 5-12 degrees overnight with highs in the high teens to low 20’s.

But a balmy sunny 46 on Saturday. Starting to warm up in the mid 30’s to high 30’s and overnight in the mid 20’s
