Am I alone? I don't know anyone who has died of Covid.

So I'm on this debate on Twitter.

Here, fellow FReepers is the God's honest truth.

I am 53 years old. I'm not a recluse. I have family, friends, co-workers, all over the United States. I'm socially active.

I do not know a single person who has died from Covid. I do not know a single person who has been hospitalized with Covid. I have not once received a phone call that someone I know has died from this.

I DO KNOW several people who have gotten Covid, all have recovered. Most said it felt like a weird cold. One friend of mine said it kicked his ass. None of them went to the hospital with it. All have been fine.

I read about hospitals overwhelmed with patients on life support, dying.

Seriously, am I living some strange sheltered existence where this disease doesn't exist?

I know someone who says they know someone who died from the bug - but they were in their 80s and in a nursing home so .....

I personally know 2 people who have developed problems from the jabs though...

So natural immunity did not kick in or do you figure your 2nd bout was with a different virus/bug?

My best friend from college died from it(unvaxxed). One of my FB friend died with it (he had a host of lung issues from smoking)(vaxxed). A few elderly people from church.

With Covid, it’s hard to tell because it can kill you in a myriad of ways or you could die from something else while you have it.

— “Are you claiming that COVID-19, and the attention paid to it, is a scam? If so, why do you think so?”

26 December 2021

Source:
https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/

( 5,398,446 “global deaths” from COVID / 7,916,000,020 population ) x 100 = 0.0682 %

Less than seven one-hundredths of one percent “officially” dead worldwide, across these “two years to flatten the curve.”

Worlometer’s tally is only slightly higher today, at 5,415,197. That changes the percentage of the world population dead to 0.068 %.

Billions are being made by a very few from this pandemic's “event.” One might be curious how so many billions are harvested from a tragedy.

I don’t know anyone, but my second circle (friends of friends) has lost about a dozen. I do know a couple that have been hospitalized.

I am up to 9-10 people I knew personally. Classmates, fraternity brothers and friends...

...3 just last week.

Of the fully vaxxed and boosted I am up to 18-20 (I don't know which 'cause numbers are hard) people, but I knew all 18 or 20 personally. Classmates, fraternity brothers and friends, my buddy's sisters cousin...

...6 just yesterday.

Gosh!

My 2nd was like the first except it was much less severe. No taste etc...

I think the virus is just getting weaker. The vaxes and the immunity help out but don't tell the whole story. That is my guess anyway.

Interesting. I would guess I know one hundred or more people who have had the virus.

No one personally. One friend-of-a-friend who was morbidly obese. Known several who have been sick — none seriously — including my oldest son who is home with us for the holidays and just tested positive.

I have a fairly wide circle of friends and acquaintances. Lucky so far I guess…

How did that turn out?

Took him awhile to recover - months but he's alive and active now so we are grateful. I think the ideas on how to treat are so much better now. He was hospitalized Christmas last year and into the new year.

His best friend since kids had it worse, same time last year, but vent, 60 days in hospital still uses wheelchair and walker. Limited use of one leg. Had comorbidities - overweight, diabetes, prior heart attack. My husband was a little overweight but otherwise healthy, active - and remains the same a little overweight but healthy active.

Not familiar with vapotherm machine.

I know lots of people who have gotten it, including my wife, SIL, and myself this September. SIL vaxxed. My wife and I were and are not vaxxed. All of us in our 60s. They walked through it and would have thought it a cold except for my reaction. I have a slower heartbeat (high 50s) and so have been diagnosed with bradycardia. I workout pretty hard and very regularly so I like to think it’s a result of that. But when I got it, my heart rate dropped into the low 40s. It did not feel good. Like an anxiety attack. O2 levels never dropped. I post this detail because I have yet to hear of anyone who had the same effect. Most report tachycardia (fast heartbeat). Anyway, lasted for more than a month and slowly returned to normal. Workouts only stopped for a week or so, but timings definitely slower. All sorts of cardio tests later, no lasting damage.

Also, I tested negative 3 times when I knew I had it. My wife tested positive, then negative. I think they weren’t swabbing right. Then we went to CVS and swabbed ourselves. All positive. Also had the antibody test before and after. It was COVID but the testing is very suspect.

Right now my son and a niece had to miss Christmas because they have it. No real issues. I would guess I know about 20-30 people who have had it.

Up until this week, I knew of nobody who died. Now I know one and he was very heavy and unfit. I am pretty certain he was fully vaxxed. My 87 year old Unvaxxed mother got it early on and had mild symptoms. Based on nothing but intuition and observation, I would not be shocked at some odd genetic factor that might contribute to severity.

I personally don’t know of anyone who died of the vax but I know a good number of people who had vax issues, including one who had to pull into a business and call an ambulance. Her O2 levels suddenly dropped into the 80s a week after the second shot. My sister knows a healthy young man who is now on life support after the Vax.

Oh man, I left off the damn /s again.

Yeah, I’m right there with you.

Since the vax, there have been two for me. WAY too young and passed suddenly and a little close to home, although not direct family. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

I didn’t bring it up ‘cause I didn’t want FReeper bhl to demand death certificates with autopsy results. <— /s (maybe)

"...If I supported vaccine mandates, then I would know people who died of the virus. But I don’t support them..."

That is very well worded statement, BobL. It is logical, germane, and even a little witty (if wit is even allowed in something as serious as this)

I pinged a lot of people on this thread on this, because I believe the issue is not whether the virus exists of not (that isn't even a question) or that people have or have not died directly from it.

The fundamental issue is: How Many? The subject of this thread had brought a lot of people in, a lot of rational and thoughtful people, and some less rational and thoughtful, but we all have the same issue. And this unscientific sharing of personal experience is an effort by many of us to get to the heart of the matter.

NOTE: Just to get this out of the way: This issue is NOT that the virus is a complete hoax and people are not dying from it. The virus exists, and people do die from it. There are people who believe that to be wholly true, but most of us don't believe that is true.

There are things that don't add up, and is it worth destroying our society or our world over? This is a fundamental question that should have been asked early on, and rational decisions made based on a valid and thoughtful real-world risk assessment that took into account both risks and benefits.

In my opinion, that risk assessment was NEVER performed. Every thing done from January 2020 in the USA was on the basis of emotion and politics.

Thing is, if this virus had a mortality rate as high as even 5-10% (never mind 30-50%) we wouldn't even be having these kinds of discussions "Do you know anyone...?" That so many people have opined in this thread is an indication that we are all seeking the real answer to "How serious is this pandemic?" because the official sources of information have been proven repeatedly to be untrustworthy, not just in the flaws in collecting it, but the deliberate twisting of that information to produce a desired result: Fear.

So, the truth of the matter is, if this virus had a mortality rate as high as even 5-10% (never mind 30-50%) we would see the results with our own eyes, and if it warranted it it, people would not only be taking any vaccination they could get (even ones that were untested and possibly life threatening) they wouldn't be going out in public unless they were wearing a full hazmat suit and respirator, and would barricade themselves in their houses with firearms and signs to keep away unwanted visitors.

But this virus clearly isn't that, even if you do accept at face value the 'official' statistics of infections and death (which many of us have serious doubts about).

I was struck recently by reading accounts of people from the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, how they had to keep dead people in their houses for extended periods of time, or how they saw corpses in front of houses waiting to be picked up. We have not only not seen corpses in public, as this thread illustrates, it is significantly more common to NOT know anyone who died directly from COVID than it is to actually know someone personally.

I am sure there are people who would read this thread and label those who even discuss the subject as "COVID Deniers", but this it not to say COVID doesn't exist, and that it doesn't kill people.

It does, and it does.

What it DOES highlight is that destroying our individual rights, voting processes, economy, businesses, social fabric, and ruining the educations, mental health, and futures of our youth is not justified by the deadliness of this pathogen. It is not even close.

If the virus had a more significant mortality rate, this question "Do you know anyone directly whose cause of death was COVID-19 alone?" would be stupid to ask, and nobody would ask it...and rightfully so.

It takes us back to Freeper BobL's statement at the top of this post...if the deadliness of the virus warranted it, vaccines, quarantines, and diminishment of individual freedoms would not be in question.

I know of no one who died from COVID. On the other hand, both my father and my brother were killed by medical mistakes while in a hospital following surgery.

One of my co-workers died of covid. He was much younger than me.
But in all fairness, another young one died of a heart attack on the job.
Another died of an abscess on the knee.
Another of Cancer.
Another of ignored Appendicitis.

All younger than me.

Then ones older than me died of many of the same things.

addendum.
My daughter had it and didn’t know it. She went to give blood and she had the antibodies.
Her husband had symptoms for less than a day and tested positive.
They both are in their mid 40’s.

My son left our Christmas eve party - sick. was in bed all day yesterday.
Says if it wasn’t a Covid world, he’d be at work tomorrow. He now is looking for a COVID test. He is 40.

My daughter in Law’s parents both had Covid last fall after Corvett Club trip. Both were in hospital and recovered. They live in Wisconsin but caught it elsewhere
