Bedtime goes woke as books like 'Antiracist Baby', 'Daddy & Dada' and 'A is for Activist' are dominating the shelves with transgender tales and scary stories of police brutality meant to 'indoctrinate' toddlers

Once upon a time it was simple. Children went to sleep on a diet of bedtime stories that grew out of folklore, depended on magic or were just enchantingly simple: Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Goodnight Moon.

Not anymore, because these days bedtime is all about getting woke.

Take a glance at the shelves of the children's department of any major bookstore.

Teach Your Dragon About Diversity, sits next to 'Daddy & Dada'. Glance a few books along and you'll find, Joey, not a heartwarming tale about a baby kangaroo, but an illustrated hagiography of Joe Biden written by, 'best-selling author,' Jill Biden.

And let's not forget, 'Kamala Harris: Rooted in Justice,' because what four -year-old doesn't want to hear about the Vice President's political rise?

There are books about transgender infants, queer families and dreamers, but the subject that dominates all others, bound up in the pages of child-friendly picture books, is race – that and a dollop of police brutality and activism.

Introducing narratives of very young children transitioning 'risks destroying children for the rest of their lives,' Heyer said.

He has identified the source of his confusion and pain as a combination of sexual abuse at the hands of a relative and his grandmother's habit of dressing him in a purple dress in secret when he was just four.

He said 'I wish instead of validating me in that she had validated me in my cowboy outfit.

'I'm almost 81 and I'm still talking about what happened to me when I was four. Who wants to live like that? I just don't want kids to be hurt. This just messes them up. What's wrong with saying, 'You're a wonderful boy?' or 'You're a wonderful girl?'

'It's not complicated. Let's not send them down this path.'

Please click the original article and look at these kids books,

I am not a book burning advocate, and it disturbs me greatly as I find myself considering an exception.

I thank God that I have 5 book cases full of books in my house, and more individual ones in the upstairs rooms.

None of this nonsense for my grandchildren.

B&N should stock books from ALL sides of the political spectrum. How about some children's books teaching that LGBT is perverse and Satanic?

But even worse, think of all the school districts that are buying these books, including kindergartens, and propagandizing children with them.

Home schooling is becoming ever more crucial.

Save the old books. I have the books from my children’s childhood, including now cancelled Seuss, books from my childhood, books from my mother’s childhood, and the books my grandfather wished he had when he was a child. Four past generations’ worth of books for my grandchildren.

My married daughter and her husband are book lovers and have taken on some of the family library, although grandson is only just starting to look at books, instead of pulling them all to the floor.

We probably need a manor house that stays in the family so all the books can stay.

My first job in publishing was a very long time ago. Worked for a publisher of children’s books in Chicago, Albert Whitman @ Co. They had published a charming series before I got there: The Boxcar Children, about young children whose parents had died. They had to move into a boxcar because they didn’t have a home. The big kids helped the little kids, and they went to school every day, stayed clean, ate all their food, loved one another and thrived. The books taught kids about love, managing in adversity, being good citizens and doing their best no matter what.

Literally in tears about this new crud.

Adult books are also being vetted: Publishers hire "sensitivity readers" to enforce political correctness

I see a lot of that,

An excerpt from an E-mail I got today:

"The Summer Research Workshop, traditionally delivered as an in-person experience, will shift to an online format, from 2022-2024, thanks to a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The program will again be offered at no cost to participants, open to librarians and archivists in the United States and Canada in full-time positions; librarians in a full-time residency are eligible to apply.

The 2022 Summer Research Workshop will be offered from June 6-17.

We seek librarians with a passion for research and a desire to improve their research skills.

IRDL is designed to bring together all that the literature tells us about the necessary conditions for librarians to conduct valid and reliable research in an institutional setting.

The cohort will be chosen from a selective submission process, with an emphasis on enthusiasm for research and diversity from a variety of perspectives, including ethnicity and type and size of library."

My son absolutely loved Boxcar Children, starting when he was about 7. I wonder if we still have any, or if they were library books. I’ll have to ask him, as he and his wife now have a son of their own, (he just turned one). I’ve been collecting all sorts of books at used book sales for him and have them on a shelf. By the time he’s ready for them, we probably won’t be able to find good children’s lit and and other wholesome books.

Wonderful! I just looked them up online and the Boxcar Children series goes on to this day, with new titles added all the time. Have no clue whether the new ones are as wonderful as the old ones, but you can check it out online or maybe at your library.
