When I actually got to the Army I realized that it is a big organization and not everything is the same in every unit. You can have a great, squared-away Captain or First Sergeant and this would never happen or be tolerated. Or some lazy or dense leader might just ignore all the problems.

It's not "the Army" but "the unit" and that unit's leadership who needs to be held accountable.

Debbie Robinson, the mother of officer Morgan Robinson, told CBS Evening News.

The rank "officer"??.. She was a sergeant. Sloppy reporting. Nothing shoots a hole in a story like not knowing a simple fact of the story.

The supervisor in Kuwait was given a reprimand..like you would get for having consensual relations with a subordinate. Forbidden by the UCMJ but happened everywhere I was stationed...a lot...

I must have missed out on the numerous gang rapes in my time in the military. As did my family members, friends, and fellow service members.
We must have been in the non-rape units.

The whole story reads like bullsmoke she was NOT an officer, she was enlisted.
How can yo be sent to 2 parts of the world in one deployment?

She should have done the same thing as the girl in the film: I Spit On Your Grave (1978)

I think I probably would have fragged the unit before taking my life, if this happened to me.

I’m sorry for your experience, but that doesn’t make it wide spread.
In this story what I found odd is that it’s numerous times, numerous people, and multiple locations.
Neither you, nor I, know the truth of this story.

Going through an academy would be as bad, or worse.

I apparently missed it too.

Slightly OT, I wonder, in most states, is a woman justified in using deadly force to fend off sexual assault?

My old platoon sergeant told me that during the Vietnam war he was transferred from the States to Korea for a 1 year assignment. After a couple of months there he was sent on a 179 day TDY to Vietnam, he was a topographic engineer/surveyor. By doing that his being in Vietnam didn’t count against the maximum number of troops allowed in country. That happened to him twice. He’d already served a tour in Vietnam 1964-65 as a surveyor, making maps of the country.

During the 1st Gulf War, the Army sent a couple of units from Korea on ‘short term re-deployment’ to Kuwait. I had a couple of soldiers (replacements) in my unit who told me about that deployment.

Bad reporting Natalie O’Neil! What where and when ? Every state has a NG unit. Your Story does not identify the unit where this allegedly occurred and throws mud at all NG units.

It is impossible to believe that an E6 could be gang raped.

Also, with the troop cap in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Army was able, as in Vietnam, able to get past that by sending soldiers in needed MOS’s from units assigned to Kuwait to either Afghanistan or Iraq for 90 to 120 days. As an Army civilian historian I knew several soldiers who participated in those “deployments with-in deployments,” some of whom were individual soldier historians based in Kuwait and then going ‘down range’ to do their interviewing of deployed soldiers.
