I am looking to shed all things Google, starting with my gmail account. I opened it in 2007 with the thought that I would have it for decades as Google was a behemoth of a company which would not disappear and which could be trusted.
But alas, I now have not an ounce of trust in Google. So much is tied to my gmail account that I want to make a move to a company which will 1) stand the test of time and 2) can be trusted.
I am quite sure I am not the only person thinking this way at this point in time. Every day something comes out about this company which makes me sick to do any business with them. Already made Bing my default search engine.
Any ideas?

Look at GMX. Good interface, free storage, no Rat splash pages and free.
Absolutely anything is better than G-mail.

Trust Google?
Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha.
I’m looking too. I particularly want to avoid email services that require a phone number.

I am changing from Gmail over to iCloud and eventually Protonmail. Protonmail is free for the basics but does cost for something more usable.
Gmail is now taking up too much of my time, because all the new bells and whistles have slowed it down to a crawl. I actually have to close my browser and open it again in order to get Gmail to open.

I have both a Yahoo and Outlook account.
The Yahoo is a royal pain when I travel because I get the “You’re signing in from a new machine/Location” message. It is amazingly difficult to check email from somewhere else which sort of defeats the purpose.
That said, I like the Yahoo interface better than Outlook
Become the master of your own domain.
Register your own internet domain. It costs about $10 per year through Godaddy. Then you can set up as many email addresses you want @YourOwnDomain.com (or .net or .org or hundreds of others). If you don’t like Godaddy you can register through another company or change your registration to another company whenever you want.
I am impressed by what I see from ProtonMail and I had never even heard of it before tonight!
google employees asked management earlier this year to not do work for the US military. Management said ok. Took their AI development to a university in China which researches for the Chines military. google needs to be shut down in the uS
50 years from now when china takes over google will govern the US
Proton mail
I just switched to GMX last week. So far, so good. It has what I need. It’s a lot simpler than Gmail.
