Christine Blasey Ford spoke but Kavanaugh just gets closer. So what now for women? (Stifled sob)
The Manchester Guardian ^ | October 1, 2018 | Van Badham

Posted on 09/30/2018 10:59:21 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The hearing is over. Christine Blasey Ford has shared her truth and gone. The Republican Senators have ignored her testimony and Brett Kavanaugh is closer to claiming a lifelong seat on America’s supreme court.

I am sixteen-and-a-half thousand kilometres away from the rooms in which these events have transpired, yet late at night and in moments of quietude, I am in all of them – rendered something supernatural and out of space and time by a rage that’s as hot and thick as lava. And I’m not alone.

Watch the ongoing Kavanaugh news roll over Twitter, you’ll see just how much outrage from women worldwide is rolling, too. Since #metoo and #whyididntreport, the private horror of sexual violence has been released so publicly and by so many that the weight of its collective force has finally – finally – inverted the power of shame. Only the isolated survivor can still be persuaded to blame themselves – and, thanks to the internet, not too many of us feel so isolated anymore. Righteously, anger has turned outwards.

The assaulted. The trapped. The humiliated. The intimidated. The disbelieved. We’ve formed a massive, roaring sisterhood of scar tissue, and we are all in that room with Blasey Ford, rising like mutant anime giant, made of blood and bits of flesh and fury. All of us are the enraged sexual assault survivors confronting the vacillating, cowardly Jeff Flake in an elevator door. All of us are the marches in the streets, the placards, the floods of phone calls. We are, each one, the testimonies that are detailed, excruciating and unashamed.

And yet the Republicans have not demurred, Kavanaugh yet advances towards the supreme court. The patriarchal moment has asserted itself with its most powerful gesture of corrective instruction....

well, I’m not ‘in that room with Ford’. Because I wasn’t upstairs in the private quarters at some stranger’s house probably stealing meds or mom’s jewelry and got tackled on the way out the door, which is probably what happened to little miss juvenile delinquent.

Never thought of that.

I wonder why she didn’t use the downstairs bathroom anyways? downstairs bathroom anyways.

She never explained why she used the upstairs one. Your explanation is more reasonable.

It is all an obvious sham. Very telling to me the left women do actually repeatedly ignore serious issues with far more evidence when the man is a Democrat. The recent dims they threw under the bus for their #metoo were a token and no more, overall they look the other way for Ds and we all know it.

Until I see feminist women bare their teeth at Democrats when they cross the line I won’t take them seriously about any of this.

I do see sexual assault as a serious issue, never will see it or any other issue as meaning we have to believe a certain group of people because of their gender, race, ETC. Evidence is evidence- our system is based upon innocent until proven guilty.

There is no gender, race, culture that never lies, never has mistaken memories, revenge, mental illness or other reason they would bring false charges. I will never go down that road.

As a culture we used to tell young women to do their best to not to allow themselves to get in a situation where their intentions would be misunderstood. Feminists are the ones that said this was a bad idea.

I was raised to be clear with men about my intentions, not lead them on or play games. It worked for me, I have even worked in redneck bars, and worked on construction sites in my younger days and never had an issue like that I could not handle due to me being aware.

This of course does not protect females from evil men that are rapists or sexually assault women for kicks. I was taught that too. My mother kept a shotgun behind the kitchen door. Feminists are the ones that pretend there is no difference between someone being overly “friendly” or misinterpreting a woman’s willingness, then backing off and an actual rapist. I had an encounter with a truly scary man once in my life and thanks to being armed and a protective dog I managed to thankfully not find out if he was as evil as I felt he was. I am well aware not all women are as lucky as I was. To me it is another downfall of feminism that they don’t support firearm training and ownership.

The same feminists ignore assault on women if it is done by a Democrat...that is far worse and far more hypocritical than any “woman shaming” or whatever they call it when women are told to be aware of their surroundings and signals they might be sending out.

Don't go into a bedroom with anyone other than your husband.

To think that used to be common sense.

It’s funny, as I look back at my own experiences I’m surprised at how many close calls and tense moments I’ve had. We have been negligent with our daughters in letting them believe that their “right” to be safe is the same as being safe.

I was pretty negligent myself with my daughters, oh I told them the obvious but other things didn’t seem to stick.

When one of my daughters was in college she got a “Tramp Stamp” tattoo. It was a pretty one with barb wire and hearts, I figured she was old enough to do what she wanted so I didn’t say anything about it. She would wear low waist jeans and shorter tops to show said tattoo.

One day I was with her at a mall and a creepy looking man walked past us and told her “nice tattoo”... She was really upset that “Creepy Dude” was looking at her tattoo. I was stunned...I told her seriously did you think no one but hot guys you are interested in can see that tattoo? When you have a tattoo like that and dress that way anyone can look at your tattoo that wants to.

My daughter was 19 or 20 and should have known better, but I guess it had never occurred to her what she was actually doing. She has never worn clothes since that show off that tattoo.

but I guess it had never occurred to her what she was actually doing.

Intentionally or not (apparently "not"), she was ADVERTISING. I won't be so crass as to specify what she was advertising.

If you put a sign on your front porch: "Llamas For Sale", don't be shocked when people ring your doorbell wanting to buy a llama.

I'm glad she learned that lesson before getting hurt too badly.

She was always the one that wanted to be in style and trendy, and that is when I realized I had missed teaching her some important things along the way. Just because something is in style does not mean it is appropriate.

in style and trendy

When "skank 'ho" is a style trend, it's ill-advised to be stylish and trendy. I hope she finds a good man to marry, who finds a private show appealing.

Im 70 and I look good compared to her...and Im old enough to be her mother...

A lifetime of hard drinking will do that. She started at 15 and apparently spent a long time being a party girl.

I absolutely admit she was ill advised at the time to go for that trend. When she was growing up we should have spent more time explaining why we did not allow her and her sisters to wear certain clothes or much makeup and a few other things instead of just telling them no. I thought they knew why without explanation. It was a good lesson in how much sway “fashion” and “in” things can have on some supposedly adult young women though.

Her doing that is what convinced me it is very wrong to tell girls they can dress and act however they want and men just need to behave and not act out upon the visual or whatever. We of course never told our daughters dressing or acting like that was okay; but society did. That doesn’t even make sense because of course the reason most women want to dress sexy and what not is for men to see, yet they are not supposed to see, and really not supposed to react.

Thankfully she did turn out great and is married to a very nice man, fantastic husband, and father who is also an officer in the Army. I have never asked him what he thinks of her tattoo and am not likely to either.

Her tattoo showing off ended that day, which was around 15 years ago; for all I know she may have had it removed at some point...

“She was really upset that “Creepy Dude” was looking at her tattoo.”

My daughter would dress “normal” - jeans or dress slacks and a non-revealing blouse. She would still get hit on by “creepy” old guys. I told her that it was her friendly nature and attitude. She dresses a lot in baggy sweats and stuff now thinking that it will cut down on the attention.

It didn’t. Like I told her - she is just naturally friendly and smiling. And don’t change that just because of some jerks. Although I was trying to come up with some snarky comments that she could use with the jerks.

I'm very glad she didn't get hurt, and more so that she's found a good husband. So all's well that ends well ...

And it provides an object lesson for the rest of us, for which I thank you. "Society", especially in these dark days, teaches us and our children many things that are catastrophically wrong. As parents, we MUST teach our children well. Telling them the truth is truly a revolutionary act.

I had a friend that for some reason attracted creepy older guys. She never did anything to attract them either, like your daughter she was friendly- but not overly friendly. Sometimes we just don’t know why...but my friend did have some good comments if the creepy guys did not take a hint to leave her alone.

The Blob. Co-written by a woman, Kaye Linaker:

Thanks for the info. Did not know that.

Although the sci-fi movie is a bit dated with the special effects, the acting is above par with the drek that passes for horror movies today.

Kaye Linaker was in several Charlie Chan movies.

She looked beautiful in Charlie Chan in Rio. She should have gotten more roles.
