After decades of relative obscurity, the fringe "antifa" movement is becoming a household name after followers clashed with white supremacists at the Charlottesville "Unite the Right" rally where extremist Alex Fields is accused of murdering 32-year-old activist Heather Heyer in a car attack.
But the movement is still loosely defined and organized, making it difficult to get a grip on its size and aims.
Professor Mark Bray, a historian and lecturer at Dartmouth, has tried to fill the gap in his new book, "Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook," that chronicles its rise. While Bray doesn't participate in the group's protests, he nonetheless considers himself an ally.
President Donald Trump called out the antifa movement by name at an Arizona rally last week, but theyve attracted criticism from conservative and liberal commentators alike for its use of violent protest to shut down public events featuring far-right speakers. Bray has attracted his own criticism: Dartmouths president put out a statement distancing the college from any "endorsement of violence" after Bray defended antifa tactics on Meet The Press.

Bray talked to NBC News about the antifa movement and the role violence plays within it on Thursday. Our conversation, edited for length and clarity.
NBC News: How would you define the antifa movement?
BRAY: Its basically a politics or an activity of social revolutionary self defense. Its a pan-left radical politics uniting communists, socialists, anarchists and various different radical leftists together.....

An ally of the pAntifags is an enemy of these United States.
Communist violence is always excusable by leftist professors, it’s about the revolution.
President Trump: Pay attention, it’s a terrorist organization that needs to be designated as such and infiltrated and stopped in its tracks. Its money source and other life blood attachments needs to be stopped immediately. Its members who engage in violence need to be prosecuted under federal statues and it crushed as you are crushing MS 13. Get it done before this cancer keeps spreading.
he nonetheless considers himself an ally.

Good to know, I consider him an enemy.
Yes, anytime you want to bring up Stalin’s or Mao’s or Pol Pot’s absolutely unspeakable crimes against humanity that took place in just the last century, they will lecture to you about what the British Empire allegedly did or even go back to the Crusades.
Then it’s just as ethical for us to return the favor.
It’ll be an interesting news cycle if those Antifa parasites ever assault me. I won’t show any restraint.
Not happening. Not sure why, but that's the path he's taking.

Until those professors are the victims of the violence.

So NBC is now endorsing and supporting violence?
I believe the Gestapo and SS considered rounding up Jews and others as preemptive self defense too.
I.e. there are no ethics. It’s dog eat dog.
In my brazen youth, we used to exult in this kind of reflection. I remember the espoused motto of the class of ‘65 ( I was ‘66 ) “Cheat, lie, steal, run, kill if you have to.” All said in high good humor.
Joseph Stalin was the original anti-Fascist. One thing he did well - convince the world that the Fascists and their close brethren, National Socialists, were somehow “right wing”, and thus tar the real right wing political parties with that slander.
Fascism and the National Socialist doctrines are only “right-wing” in relation to the international socialism called Communism, and not all that very distant from the total socialist state. A kind of false capitalism is permitted under Fascism and National Socialism, what we would brand as “crony capitalism” today. The regime picks winners and losers, and keeps a tight rein on both.
Declare what is “legal” or “illegal” and tax the hell out of it. Or assess completely disproportionate fines and fees.
Shooting rioters and looters is thus entirely ethical.
Around the time of the Ferguson riots I opined that if a resident therein sees a group of rioters in a black neighborhood and there are whites in the group they should shoot the whites first because it would increase the odds of killing one of these communist rather than some mere malcontent or criminal.
I didn’t say that doing so would likely discourage the rest without angering them to come after the shooter at the time because it would be long months before such a thought even began to occur to me (as I observed the overtly racist underpinnings of BLM).
Also, such advice wouldn’t hold for a riot in a predominantly white neighborhood given that rioters and looters seem to be lazy, doing their thing close to home like the special kind of idiots that they are.
Thankfully these Antifa types self identify....
In Hogan’s Heroe’s bumbling Master Sergeant Hans Schultz is revealed to be the former owner of the large, successful Schatzi Toy Company before the Nazis converted it to arms production.
