He couldn't have deleted the memo from his FBI laptop because he'd already been fired, and no longer had possession of the laptop. Everything had been confiscated from his office when he was in California.
He wrote it. After he was fired. The computer would prove when the document was created.
If Trump really has tapes, he is much to smart to tell anyone. Why tip off people? Let them spin whatever lies they want, then he can play the tapes and prove all to be liars.
If he doesn’t have tapes, his claiming that he might may keep Comey and others from spinning too many tall tales, as they will be guarded in what they say, unsure if their conversations were recorded.
Think what would happen if Trump released tapes of his recording the FBI director?

Comey has to know they are real or he wouldn’t be playing CYA. Which is exactly what he’s doing.

Bad for Trump? Only if the information on them is bad, then Trump is a fool for disclosing them, and he is not a fool.
But, there are no tapes. It’s just that none of his enemies can be sure.
Wasn't everything in Comey's office seized when he was fired? Comey said he wrote this memo to protect his concerns in the future. If it isn't on his official computer, and he didn't immediately note it and put it as part of his papers, how did it even exist?
Even if he wrote the memo then destroyed all copies (doubtful there ever was one) he has no way to prove when he wrote it. Thus, it doesn't exist.
It's either perjury or a serious violation of procedure.
