How should I talk about Religion with my Jehovah Witness sister? Vanity.

How should I talk about Religion with my Jehovah Witness sister?

I love my slightly older sister but I think/know she's gone nuts with her adherence to the Jehovah's Witnesses.

While I rarely talk or see her, we are deeply connected, most objective people would say we are estranged. I can't go that far. Regardless of circumstance, we have always been able to connect.

She has always been an "All or nothing" person, believing virtually anything and everything. While in school she excelled in math and computer programing but ran off to the Colorado Mountains to be a Ski Bunny and married my best friend. Had kids, got divorced and is now a Grandmother. She still spends hours on end standing on street corners handing out tracts for the Jehovah's Witnesses.

While I consider myself a Christian, I can't quote a single passage from the bible. I've read it, I understand it and I have accepted Christ as my Savior.

My Sister is coming to visit next week.

In a certain sense I want to undermine what I think is a cult.

At the same time I need to be respectful.

I have the feeling that any discussion that has me quoting passage's from the bible will be fruitless. There is no way I can win in a back and forth battle.

I don't know how I should handle this and I'm seeking advice.

I was with them for a while. Your sister could do worse.

Yes, she could join up with one of the several compromised mainline "Christian" denominations which embrace what God unambiguously condemns - TEC, PCUSA, ELCA, UM's, etc.

I'm serious, these are much WORSE than the JW's.

Ask her if you can pray for her, lay your hands on her and begin speaking in tongues. The don;t believe in the Holy Spirit. They don;t need goose bumps to scare ‘em. Sometimes just loving people as they are. JESUS would want you to accept her..she is your sister.

Reminds me of the old Cheech and Chong skit. “I used to be messed up on drugs, but since I found the Lord, now I’m really messed up on the Lord” or something like that.

Avoid the topic unless she pushes it.

Leave several Bibles laying around bookmarked to John 14:6.

You are not seeking advice. You already have the correct advice.

You are seeking like-minded people to help rationalize your thoughts.

I’m all about accepting people, but proclaiming the truth is what this is really about. Cultists, atheists, and any unsaved by the Blood of Christ person needs the truth.

I’m not too familiar with JW other than they believe in a bunch of works-based, legalistic theology that sends people straight to hell.

You can’t talk to Jehovos about anything because they’re all crazy.

ask her how she would feel if she was the 140,00th person in heaven but you had to go to hell because you were 140,001 because you accidentally stepped on an ant when you were a kid...

JW's don't have Hell, Heaven is for the 144,000, and Eden like Paradise is for more good folks, and annihilation is for the bad folks.

Cannot be too great a challenge. Having leftist relatives is far more demanding.

The JW's deny the divinity of Yeshua. Well just drop this on them.

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending" (Revelation 1:8).

"I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last" (Revelation 1:11).

"Fear not; I am the first and the last" (Revelation 1:17).

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end" (Revelation 21:6).

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last" (Revelation 22:13).

"I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star"(Revelation 22:16).

You ask them when did Jehovah G-d die and then resurrected? ?

If you are too effective you may find that your sister may be banned from discussing religion with you. I believe is happened to me with a coworker who was a Jehovah.

Please take note of this

Your sister thinks she knows a lot about the Bible, because they have drilled her in it. But her Bible translation is very poor, and deliberately wrong in many places.

The worst place is in translation John 1:1, in which they claim that it shows Jesus as just another mini-god, not the Real God. In trying to prove their false translation, they misquoted a well-known author, which deeply offended him. Here is his resonse:

Julius R. Mantey (click here), the famous author of Greek Grammar texts, shows how poor her New World Translation really is.

Otherwise, if you do not really know your Bible, simply refuse to talk about it or hear about it at all. Just get into chatting about old, good times that will get her mind back onto relationships with her family, not the JWs who want to drive a wedge between you.

I suggest that you first work on knowing why you believe what you believe - based on the Bible, of course. One of the reasons Jehovah Witness, Mormons and others are able to deceive so many is that most “church people” are not firmly grounded in God’s Word.

Specific to sharing truth in God’s love to JWs, you may wish to peruse the following sites:

carm.org/biblical-response-to-jehovahs-witnesses

www.equip.org/article/a-beginners-guide-to-witnessing-to-the-jehovahs-witnesses/

www.4witness.org/

www.christiananswers.net/evangelism/beliefs/jehovahswitness.html

From personal experience, I have more success asking them questions with a purpose than I do lecturing them. Of course, you need to be earnest in prayer, know what questions to ask, and know the answers based on God’s Word. This applies to most ensnared in false religions.

I worked alongside a Jehovah’s witness for many years. He got his job done, and didn’t voice any odd opinions to me. He kept his religion mostly to himself.

As cults go, it could be worse. E.g. Moonies, Scientology, Hare Krishna.

Spend time with her.
