How should I talk about Religion with my Jehovah Witness sister?
I love my slightly older sister but I think/know she's gone nuts with her adherence to the Jehovah's Witnesses.
While I rarely talk or see her, we are deeply connected, most objective people would say we are estranged. I can't go that far. Regardless of circumstance, we have always been able to connect.
She has always been an "All or nothing" person, believing virtually anything and everything. While in school she excelled in math and computer programing but ran off to the Colorado Mountains to be a Ski Bunny and married my best friend. Had kids, got divorced and is now a Grandmother. She still spends hours on end standing on street corners handing out tracts for the Jehovah's Witnesses.
While I consider myself a Christian, I can't quote a single passage from the bible. I've read it, I understand it and I have accepted Christ as my Savior.
My Sister is coming to visit next week.
In a certain sense I want to undermine what I think is a cult.
At the same time I need to be respectful.
I have the feeling that any discussion that has me quoting passage's from the bible will be fruitless. There is no way I can win in a back and forth battle.
I don't know how I should handle this and I'm seeking advice.
And that's just what she thinks.
No, they deny the trinity, that Jesus and God are the same person.
I don’t know where you get that.
They can all believe anything they like. I said to simply refuse to discuss religion. Which was in answer to the question asked.
I’ve seen a bumper sticker with that sentiment...
I like the topic and you have lots of good advice already.
My 2 cents anyway. She is likely very skilled in the bible and has Tons of practice explaining why she is right. She was first taught by people skilled in it before she was allowed to “lead”.
So you need to be Very knowledgeable in the KJV bible because that is their enemy. And knowing it is not enough. You also have to be skilled in presenting your side.
Those two skills take years to develop. Short of that the best thing to do is pray for her salvation and let the Holy Spirit do all the heavy lifting.
God may have her where she is for a reason.
Leave me a private reply and as soon as I get back home I’ll send it.

Yep. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was With G-d and the Word was “A” G-d according to the JW’s New World Translation Bible.
Wel-l-l. not exakkly. the Smithites carry a Ling James Bible in their visitation backpacks. I don't know that they ever made their own Bible translation from the original languages. Instead, thy just copied the stategy of Mohammed by claiming "New Revelation! New, never-before-given knowledge by and about God!"
Whole new religion markets to segment, with new products to differentiate! An MBA's dream world to divide up the customer base. whole new governments (which is religion applied to economics) to siphon off the fanatic class! Mmmmmm-BOY! Makes the Catho-Prod fight look like a tempest in a very small teapot, eh?
*snicker* you can TRY. Love to be there!
That is arguing. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Instead tell her that you love her and want a close relationship with her.
She may ask you to attend one of their meetings/ Bible studies. Tell her you will go but only if she goes with you to your church first. She will decline because they are not permitted to attend other faith services.
I would like to see this.
You can stop right now because you and I are not going to agree.
The KJV was suspect from almost Day One for the Mormons.

Articles of Faith
The Articles of Faith outline 13 basic points of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Prophet Joseph Smith first wrote them in a letter to John Wentworth, a newspaper editor,
in response to Mr. Wentworth's request to know what members of the Church believed.
They were subsequently published in Church periodicals.
They are now regarded as scripture and included in the Pearl of Great Price.
THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
History of the Church, Vol. 4, pp. 535541
- We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
- We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
- We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
- We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
- We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
- We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
- We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
- We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
- We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
- We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
- We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
- We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of PaulWe believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
Joseph Smith
Joseph Smith made the claim that GOD instructed him to re-'translate' the KJV to remove the error(s) from it.
He did so.
It is known as the Inspired Version (or JST: Joseph Smith Translation)
However; SLC has NOT told the masses that the JST is to be considered Scripture; and the KJV is STILL used - still suspect.
We all knew that.
Or else a Chinese Panda has a bible.
Then make her say WHY.
WHY is headquarters so AFRAID of things like this?
Ask WHY they are not supposed to use the 'net to find out things about religion.
