How should I talk about Religion with my Jehovah Witness sister?
I love my slightly older sister but I think/know she's gone nuts with her adherence to the Jehovah's Witnesses.
While I rarely talk or see her, we are deeply connected, most objective people would say we are estranged. I can't go that far. Regardless of circumstance, we have always been able to connect.
She has always been an "All or nothing" person, believing virtually anything and everything. While in school she excelled in math and computer programing but ran off to the Colorado Mountains to be a Ski Bunny and married my best friend. Had kids, got divorced and is now a Grandmother. She still spends hours on end standing on street corners handing out tracts for the Jehovah's Witnesses.
While I consider myself a Christian, I can't quote a single passage from the bible. I've read it, I understand it and I have accepted Christ as my Savior.
My Sister is coming to visit next week.
In a certain sense I want to undermine what I think is a cult.
At the same time I need to be respectful.
I have the feeling that any discussion that has me quoting passage's from the bible will be fruitless. There is no way I can win in a back and forth battle.
I don't know how I should handle this and I'm seeking advice.
Easy: Don’t.
Does she need intervention? Why no tlet her carry out her life, her beliefs as she sees fit? Anyway, is it really any of your business what your sister chooses to believe in? As one of 18 in our family, I personally prefer to leave some things well enough alone.
Your connect point is you both worship the same God, just in different ways.
The only Bible verse I can think of that would maybe help is, the Time to Sow verse. Ecclesiastes 3 (it’s easy to remember - 3 eclairs). Because of her age, you might have some luck pressing that it is now time to enjoy the harvest. To trust in Jesus for her salvation, to obey God’s command to stand aside and allow others their turn to Testify. To rest from the street corners, to let go of the fear that she just hasn’t done enough to redeem her soul. To allow herself, as God commands, to celebrate life and to become joyful of, and find peace in, the beauty God has created here on earth. Stepping back, putting aside pride, is truly letting Jesus take the wheel.
God Bless you and your sister.
There is a book “reasoning with the JW’s by Rhodes. It takes every argument they give you and prove it wrong through scripture. It got me black balled on the JW street walks. If you’re not sure of your faith don’t get into with her. Some of them are very good at the garbage they’ve been taught.
I disagree. They can be dealt with. The problem is that most “Christians” can’t articulate and defend their faith let alone challenge another.
On a few occasions I had them get up from my table, curse at me, and demand I unlock the door to let them out.
I’d like to thank all of you for your thoughtful replies to my post.
This is something that has been weighing on me for a very long time.
I’m curious about how JW’S deal with “The Fall”.
For some reason I sense that I can exploit this angle.
Your thoughts on this matter are greatly appreciated.
30 Years a Watchtower Slave: The Confessions of a Converted Jehovah's Witness..
Pray. All things are possible.
Ask her how many remnant are still alive, and that they used to publish the number of remaining remnant every year in the year book.
Ask her why they don’t anymore.
“The end” was supposed to come before the last of the remnant, none of whom were born after 1914, died.
And then drop the subject.
Treat her like gold and PRAY FOR HER LIKE YOU ARE SERIOUS.
Talk about what a nut job job Bruce Jenner has become. I have to believe you can both agree with that.
Should it come up, simply say you prefer not to discuss religion AT ALL. And don’t say anything about any religion.
You can’t tell other people what to believe.
They just go door to door in my town to rub it in my face.
You found Christ on your own.
Your sister should have her own journey.
if she’s hot, leave her number and i can give her a shot... talking to ... i meant talking to...
I’m currently out of town on a flight but at home I have this list that you walk your JW friend through. It’s very specific and the end result would be they could not deny that it is Yeshua who is talking and He is the Great I Am that YVWH refers to as Himself. Yeshua said he was the I Am when speaking to his disciples. I’ll post it to you when I get home. Send an email to me.

That’s good stuff.
Thanks
This is almost exactly what my best friend said to me at the time. He said "I need a Girlfriend, your sister is hot", I said "she is crazy", he said "I just need to talk to her". And now, she is in a cult.
