Sen. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) is pressing fellow Republican Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) to reveal his strategy for success as he risks a government shutdown in an attempt to end federal funding of Planned Parenthood.
In a letter to Cruz on Thursday, Ayotte demanded to know why the firebrand Texas senator and presidential candidate is so strongly pushing legislation that the party can't pass.
It is abundantly clear that we lack the votes in the Senate to redirect these funds, Ayotte, one of four female Republicans in the Senate, wrote in the letter.
She goes out of her way to distance herself from a government shutdown particularly when it appears there is no chance of achieving a successful result.
Two years after Cruz took a stand on ObamaCare that resulted in a government shutdown but no policy changes, Ayotte said she is asking him to reveal his hand about what he hopes to achieve.
[I] would appreciate you sharing your strategy for success with all of us before any damaging government shutdown becomes imminent, she wrote in the letter, which was first obtained by the New Hampshire news station WMUR.

I would offer back eight words. “You KNOW that you are wrong on this.”
“His” shutdown?
Has anyone in DC ever taken any civics classes?
Good thing the Republicans took over the Senate! They are getting so much accomplished this legislative session!
Leading with the shutdown is losing. Losers lose. The Senate and House leadership are losers.
The answer is to never discuss a shutdown, not lead with either ‘we’ll shut it down over ___ issue’, or even worse ‘we will never shutdown the government’. Pathetic leadership. This is equivalent to the NFL leading their press discussions in a labor dispute with a discussion of locking out the players. That’s not how you start a negotiation debate.
If this Congress can’t manage a simple FUNDING issue? Then what good are they?
Budget issues don’t require 60 votes in the Senate.
This one, is easy. Make it happen.
besides which, outside the beltway no one gave a damn about the last “shutdown’ anyway.
Why is it always ok for The Deamoncrats to stand their ground, but not for staunch conservatives? Besides their is NEVER a vote to shut down the government. It is a consequence of two side not giving in. So why does it always have to be the republican MAJORITY that has to give in. I though this country was founded on and documented in the constitution that majority rules.
Quote, with her reasonable question, also demonstrates she does not have a clue.
Ayotte demonstrates, once again, that the GOPe does not have the capability of strategically putting Obama and the democrats ON RECORD that they support the sale of baby’s body parts. The only way to force the media to really cover this issue is to make Obama veto the budget over Planned Parenthood being able to continue to receive federal dollars and continue this barbaric practice.
The government just wasted money (Went out of their way) setting up barricades for people to ignore last time.
The Uniparty is making it clear that it will not support Cruz on this principled stand, nor will it ever countenance him becoming the GOP Presidential nominee.
That is the thing that irritates me most, and sadly, I don’t expect Cruz will address that in his response. We are never going to turn anything around as long as Democrat talking points are treated as fact.
so so true, and a lot of people - none of them in the beltway or inside the GOP e - knew that.
You got that right. A “shutdown” turns off the spigot for everyone INSIDE the beltway; they are the ones that starve and they can’t have that. Here on the outside, its business as usual, if not a little easier with some government out of the way even but for a few days.
That won’t make a dent in Empty Head Kelly. Try this: Abortion is Racist. Baby lives matter too.
Ted Cruz has repeatedly laid this at the feet of Obama. Democrats and their RINO pets will continue to lie and they’ll do it with the help of the media.
Frankly the only answer is an educated public and that’s even less likely than Obama signing a bill to defund PP.
Send a budget to O and dare him to veto it. After he votes it, send a tougher budget next time. And so on and so on until he cracks.
Time the GOP realize they are suppose to be the ANTI Government party, not the Pre-emptive surrender party.
Leni
In this case it is not even about being anti government; It should be about anti crony capitalism. The main point is that PP is a private organization!
