More than ten thousand people have been killed in Kievs punitive operation in southeastern Ukraine since April, said a Ukrainian parliamentary group. The MPs addressed the president urging to declassify information on citizens killed.
The Ukrainian parliamentary group For peace and stability said on Friday that the figure was given by volunteer groups working in the east of the country, ITAR-TASS reported.
We have estimated that just in the first two weeks of July nearly 2,500 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the area of the anti-terrorist operation, the group said in a statement in the Verhovnaya Rada (Ukraines parliament).
The number of wounded during the same period was more than 5,000 people. Thousands of civilians fell victim to military actions. Most of them died from shrapnel wounds. Thus, the preliminary number of the Ukrainians killed during the anti-terrorist operation, is more than 10,000 people according to our estimates, said the co-chairman of the parliamentary group, Sergey Gorokhov.
The MPs also addressed Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the government, urging to declassify the official data on the amount of people - civilians, Ukrainian soldiers, and everyone who took part in the anti-terrorist operation who were killed.
Gorokhov stated that the president receives a report on the people killed in the operation every day, but it is classified. Meanwhile, the families of those missing in the military operation zone petition the government each day in the hope that their close ones will be found, he added.

All the blood is on Putins hands and his Putana’s.
Just shows your intelligence level.
DERP DERP DERP NAZIS!
What the hell?
Every damn thread on the Ukraine there’s a bunch of you flouncing around like a gay parade, shrieking down the opposition.
Present your case. Present analysis and facts. Stop jamming the thread with emotive garbage. This isn’t DU.
That 10,000 claimed as dead is even considered a reasonable estimate is beyond absurd. Reminds me of the Iraqi body count back in the day. This is the same type of thing.
Does this include the passengers on MH17 shot out of the sky???
10,000 seems high until you consider that Russia should have a better handle on deaths since most of these are probably Ukrainian civilians killed by Russian rebels themselves and counted before being buried in mass graves.
In other news:
Surface-to-Air Missile Used to Down MH17: Hishammuddin Hussein
There goes 30% of Russia Todays editorial page
It does seem high.
The article also quotes a UN estimate of 400 military dead and 1300 civilians.
I’m sick of the endless Russian propaganda and the endless chant of NAZI NAZI NAZI. Nobody among the Putana’s wants a reasonable discussion .
The title of the article is "Over 10,000 killed in Kievs punitive op - Ukrainian MPs". The first sentence is "More than ten thousand people have been killed in Kievs punitive operation in southeastern Ukraine since April, said a Ukrainian parliamentary group.". The whole tone of the article is this. The propaganda has been delivered.
They probably weren’t talking about the punitive op. ;-)
That’s correct. RT used a sting-lead to punch up their headline. “10,000 dead - Ukrainian MPs” is much edgier than “Ukrainian MPs claim 10,000 dead”.
It’s misleading - certainly for people who don’t take the time to read more than half a headline. At the very least it’s sharp practice.
One might almost think RT was deliberately skewing the story in favor of Russia - oh wait, I think we already knew that. Of course RT presents the Russian case. The clue’s in the name. That’s why we parse sources.
I’ll give RT credit for quoting the UN estimates, and not actually claiming 10,000 dead on its own authority. But I don’t like sting-leads.
Russia Today is designed to mislead people. They try to sometimes add CYA statements that do not matter or stay “technically correct”, but their mission to make you believe something that is not true is very clear. They can effectively do it with tactical twistings and omissions.
I.e a bare bones version of a Russia Today article (that they actually ran):
US Armed forces are spending a lot of money on unmanned aerial vehicle’s (true). Computer students of some university did an experiment where they took control of a drone with a laptop and $200 worth of equipment from Radio Shack (true). Many voices in the USA demand cutting the military (true).
What the article omits is that the drone students took control of was a cheap RC toy from a toy store and not a military UAV. Technically none of the statements in the article was incorrect, but the way they were combined and by what was left out made the readers believe something that was absolutely not true.
That’s a useful analysis of how a misleading narrative can be built up of true building blocks. Thanks for posting!
Compare and contrast the following two paragraphs:
With airquotes:
In the last few days, there is an interesting discussions among Kadyrov's minions on the subject of recruiting "volunteers" for Cuba. It is learned that military recruitment stations in Chechnya have launched a secret recruitment campaign for those who would agree for a "volunteer" service in Cuba. Further details are not yet known.Without airquotes:

Did their source really use airquotes?
Ok, an anonymous source is worthless anyway. But the airquotes read like another instance of weaponised text - the sort of thing we FReepers should be wary of. In this regard airquotes are as pernicious as sting-leads.
Thank you for bringing this to the thread.
Sounds like the NY Times, Washington Post...
For Peace and Stability is a Ukrainian parliamentary faction created on 2 July 2014 by previous members of the Communist Party of Ukraine and members of the Party of Regions. The General Prosecutor of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine have both filed criminal charges against the Communist Party of Ukraine. The charges against the party include supporting the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and providing support to separatists in Eastern Ukraine, both acts of treason against the Ukrainian state.
Here’s the thing: In order to impose your will using military force, a lot of people, many of them innocent, have to get killed.
Avoiding this out of squeamishness, or modernity, or PC, gets lots of YOUR guys killed and ends without winning.
