Ryan is a good man, but does not redeem the abortionist/homosexualist statist Romney
Aug 11, 2012 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 08/11/2012 4:42:48 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Except for his unfortunate go along to get along support of TARP, bailouts, stimulus spending and the increased credit limit, etc, Ryan is a pretty good choice. Probably the best choice of the RINOS that were on Romney's short list. I support Ryan for the vice presidency. Wish he were at the top of the ticket, though.

But I still cannot and will not support the grand father of ObamaCare. Romney still loves and brags about his bastard brainchild, RomneyCare, even today when he knows what an anti-liberty socialist POS it is.

And the fact that he advocated that abortion should be safe and legal in America for over three decades of his adult lifetime and even advocated that Roe v Wade should be supported and sustained as settled law precludes any consideration whatsoever by this pro-life Christian for Myth Romney for the presidency.

And the fact that he boasted that he would be better for "gay rights" than Ted Kennedy, and proved it just increases my resistance.

That, and his penchant for gun control, his continuing support for global warming, gays in the scouts, gays in the military, and his record of appointing liberal judges makes it all but impossible for me to support him.

Lastly, we're having a bit of changeover on our moderator staff. At least two moderators resigned this afternoon after I flatly refused to rein in a so-called anti-Mormon "bigot" on FR. Well, if being in opposition to false prophets and false prophecy makes a Christian believer a bigot, then I guess I'm a bigot. I've posted before that I flat do not believe that the Book of Mormon is the true word of God. Nor do I believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. The Christian bible warns us to be weary of false prophets and that I am. Romney being the presumptive Republican nominee does not change that fact.

This is just nuts.

Disappointment over the handling of some skirmishes and the resulting zots of a few oldtimers in the last few months caused me to scale back my time here, but this thread... it is just so sad from start to finish. I saw it yesterday, and could not believe it! I hoped, I prayed that when I came back today, that the scales would have begun to fall from some folks eyes, but no. Just the opposite.

Unbelievably sad.

May God give us strength.

You can keep contributing to hat meme, but don’t be surprised when someone calls you out on it.

Speaking of HATS...

"Now the way he translated was he put the urim and thummim into his hat and Darkned his Eyes than he would take a sentance and it would apper in Brite Roman Letters. Then he would tell the writer and he would write it. Then that would go away the next sentance would Come and so on. But if it was not Spelt rite it would not go away till it was rite, so we see it was marvelous. Thus was the hol [whole] translated."
---Joseph Knight's journal.

"In writing for your father I frequently wrote day after day, often sitting at the table close by him, he sitting with his face buried in his hat, with the stone in it, and dictating hour after hour with nothing between us."
(History of the RLDS Church, 8 vols.
(Independence, Missouri: Herald House,1951),
"Last Testimony of Sister Emma [Smith Bidamon]," 3:356.

"I, as well as all of my father's family, Smith's wife, Oliver Cowdery and Martin Harris, were present during the translation. . . . He [Joseph Smith] did not use the plates in translation."
---(David Whitmer,
as published in the "Kansas City Journal," June 5, 1881,
and reprinted in the RLDS "Journal of History", vol. 8, (1910), pp. 299-300.

In an 1885 interview, Zenas H. Gurley, then the editor of the RLDS Saints Herald, asked Whitmer if Joseph had used his "Peep stone" to do the translation. Whitmer replied:

"... he used a stone called a "Seers stone," the "Interpreters" having been taken away from him because of transgression. The "Interpreters" were taken from Joseph after he allowed Martin Harris to carry away the 116 pages of Ms [manuscript] of the Book of Mormon as a punishment, but he was allowed to go on and translate by use of a "Seers stone" which he had, and which he placed in a hat into which he buried his face, stating to me and others that the original character appeared upon parchment and under it the translation in English."

"Martin Harris related an incident that occurred during the time that he wrote that portion of the translation of the Book of Mormon which he was favored to write direct from the mouth of the Prophet Joseph Smith. He said that the Prophet possessed a seer stone, by which he was enabled to translate as well as from the Urim and Thummim, and for convenience he then used the seer stone, Martin explained the translation as follows: By aid of the seer stone, sentences would appear and were read by the Prophet and written by Martin and when finished he would say 'Written,' and if correctly written that sentence would disappear and another appear in its place, but if not written correctly it remained until corrected, so that the translation was just as it was engraven on the plates, precisely in the language then used."
(Edward Stevenson, "One of the Three Witnesses,"
reprinted from Deseret News, 30 Nov. 1881
in Millennial Star, 44 (6 Feb. 1882): 86-87.)

In 1879, Michael Morse, Emma Smith's brother-in-law, stated:

"When Joseph was translating the Book of Mormon [I] had occasion more than once to go into his immediate presence, and saw him engaged at his work of translation. The mode of procedure consisted in Joseph's placing the Seer Stone in the crown of a hat, then putting his face into the hat, so as to entirely cover his face, resting his elbows upon his knees, and then dictating word after word, while the scribes Emma, John Whitmer, O. Cowdery, or some other wrote it down."
(W.W. Blair interview with Michael Morse,
Saints Herald, vol. 26, no. 12
June 15, 1879,  pp. 190-91.)

Joseph Smith's brother William also testified to the "face in the hat" version:

"The manner in which this was done was by looking into the Urim and Thummim, which was placed in a hat to exclude the light, (the plates lying near by covered up), and reading off the translation, which appeared in the stone by the power of God"
("A New Witness for Christ in America,"
Francis W. Kirkham, 2:417.)

"The manner in which he pretended to read and interpret was the same manner as when he looked for the money-diggers, with the stone in his hat, while the book of plates were at the same time hid in the woods."
---Isaac Hale (Emma Smith's father's) affidavit, 1834.

I am not saying that Mormons should be disqualified from public office. I am saying that the Mormon "faith" is based upon a fraudulent attempt to justify the personal perversions of the perverts who created Mormonism out of whole cloth. And, I'm saying that a claimed "belief" in Mormonism implies a belief and confidence in the correctness of its founders. Surely, that is a factor that we may properly consider in evaluating a candidate for public office.

We are today witnessing the attempt to mainstream the notion that a man can marry another man. Is polygamy next?

As a true conservative who also happens to be a Jew, I am often asked why Jews so often support Democratic or liberal causes, when the “right” is so outspoken and committed to Israel.

To answer a large part of the problem, one need look no further than this Colofornication person or whatever his/her name is, and the other Mormon bashers who for some reason have been allowed to flourish and fine tune their crafts here.

From history, Jews have no admiration for intolerance and hatred. You can call it what you want, but branding religion as occult, demonizing large groups of people who are what they are due mainly to birth and what they were taught, is dangerous ground.

I sincerely believe these people think they are on some type of mission, but I fail to believe it is truly ordained by God or goes beyond the commandment of the Christ to “love your neighbor as you love yourself”.

Of course they claim to “love” infidels or heathens, but they mock them at the same time and the differences become so blurred, they are vile.

I come from a family of survivors who were almost exterminated due to intolerance and hate. Yes, it has affected who I am because the reality of what my family survived was taught to me from my earliest memory.

There is not much difference in the hatred preached here. How, in the name of G*d, does any “Christian” find him or herself in a position to judge others? Was this truly the message of your Christ?

I have long admired the Christian faith- but I fear that it’s message of love and peace is being overshadowed by the too loud message of some who continue to preach “if you don’t have it exactly the way WE believe it was written.....you are damned to hell and it is my business to tell you”.

I truly, sincerely do not believe this was the intent of Jesus.

I’m not suggesting that ANYONE abandon their beliefs. And perhaps if you feel led to, there are times when it might be appropriate and effective for you to share your beliefs with others.

But the Bible is VERY clear that there are ways to do such things. They are to be done personally, quietly, with reverence and respect.

Blasting your fears and hatred on a public forum that indeed for many serves as the face for the conservative movement, will only confirm for many what they already mistakenly believe; that conservative, Tea-party “types” are loons who speak hate-filled, ignorant speech that alienates rather than invites.

G*d’s message has always been of love and acceptance. Not acceptance of your perceptions of sin, but acceptance of one another. How can you possibly affect change when you come from such a place of intolerance?

Whether you agree with me or not, I felt compelled to write and though I disagree with Jim’s position to allow this to flourish, I have great respect for his right to not only speak his mind- but that he also allows for dissent.

Love one another people. Leave the judgement to the understanding of G*d.

2 choices and only 2. Vote for a RINO who chose a conservative VP or vote for the Kenyan COmmie who we know is a Marxist and wants to fundamentally change this country and NOT for the better. GET HIM out, figure out the rest later. If not, there may not be a later. I can’t even think about what he would do as a lame duck president. OMG!

FWIW, I'm going to vote for Romney because of Ryan. I think Romney picking Ryan is a recognition on Romney's part that if he wins he can not govern without the support of conservatives. The Tea Party has done a great job of getting more conservative senators on the ballot which along with a solid conservative group in the House means conservatives won't get rolled over like they have in the past. Also, I do believe Romney will repeal obamacare and by bringing in Ryan is indicating what he will replace it with.

Finally, I think Ryan is a solid conservative on the social issues as well as the fiscal ones. It seems the greatest problem we have getting a conservative at the head of the ticket is how the primary schedule front loads liberal/moderate states. If R&R win we have a real opportunity to usher in 16 years of conservatism.

I don't think we can afford 4 more years of autocratic rule from obama. Also, I don't see how we repeal obamacare 4 years from now.

First of all, I am not a “he.” Pops88 is my Pharchutist Over Phorty number. Thank you for your cogent answer and clarifying what you meant. As for you being defended, the question I asked was to you directly, and I would have been happy to wait for your personal response, because in my opinion, if you and I are having a conversation, someone else answering for you is butting in. As well as someone may know you, and try to defend or speak for you, they aren’t you. From your phrasing, it sounded like you act first, then look to being backed up by scripture and the Lord. If I said something that appeared that way, I would hope someone would point it out so that I could clear up any misunderstanding. I may not have been the only one that took it that way.
