“they could not have chosen a more symbolic way than an EMP— electromagnetic pulse—attack on, say, a cruise ship like the Splendor. “

If it were a focused EMP attack. Every electronic device on board would die. This includes passengers phones, cameras, watches and I don't remember reading that. Unless they got over Three Thousand people to clam up.

I don't know which is more frightening, an unclaimed missile launch off the coast where I live, or the number of people able to be persuaded that a moving video taken at sunset, for Pete's sake, of a west-bound missile launch, is actually video of an eastbound UPS plane!

It's as plain as the nose on your face -- the lighting tells you so in the vertical plume; there was and is no "optical illusion" involving the curvature of the earth, though that's what's being pitched to credulous people who are further comforted by the flattery that they're being "calm" and "reasonable," as opposed to folks who've seen missile launches before and ID the thing in the video as a missile launch plume. Contrail pigeons accuse of those folks of engaging in "shrill overreactions based on paranoia and ignorance."

And that's rich, coming from a group of folks heavily dominated by armchair theorists who've never seen a live missile launch -- but by golly, they've seen plenty of airline contrails that looked vertical, and while they were never fooled for long, they're quite a bit smarter than the average bear and can laughingly understand how dolts like a professional cameraman, an editor with Jane's, several Air Force generals, and virtually 98 percent of commenters on public forums from FR to Los Angeles Times who've actually SEEN missile launches live and who've stated their take that the video showed a missile plume, and that it was clearly not an airliner, could be "fooled" into thinking an airline contrail was *smirk ... snigger* a missile launch (the dumb bastards!).

Really, I don't know which is scarier, Shoop. Good Americans who nonetheless exhibit a combination of gullibility and arrogance that leads them to be so willingly deceived, or the missile launch.

...and creates no sonic boom.

I showed you once why no one would hear a sonic boom from a vertically rising missile over 35 miles away. Don't be so lazy and read it this time.

Sonic booms

... and creates no sonic boom ...

Puh-LEEEEEEEEEEZE. You're proposing that the lack of a sonic boom is evidence that this wasn't a missile launch?

For a total combination of I don't know how many decades, I lived well within 35 miles of Vandenberg and its missile launches.

Hey, ODT?

TAKE A WILD GUESS at how many times I heard a sonic boom to go with the dozens and dozens of launches that happened during those years I lived there.

Go ahead. Guess.

On the other hand, I heard every time the double sonic-boom of the returning space shuttle 45 miles away (the distance I lived from Cape Canaveral for several years).

Wake up, ODT. Somebody's trying to pull the wool over your eyes, and you're giving them a hand because it makes you feel so good.

You're right, Finny: A vertical-launch missile makes no sonic boom as it rises, until the missile is at 20,000-ft or more, and then it's a retreating wave directed primarily upward. That video looked more like a rocket/missile going up than a jet in level flight. I'm not aware of any more DATA than the film. TC

Let’s put those Myth-buster guys from the Discovery Channel on this.

Me personally...I think a couple of college kids dreamed this up and built the rocket themselves. They probably put in too much fuel and it went alot higher than anticipated.

People like you never cease to amaze me. And there are plenty here, both posting and lurking. You have NO proof one-way or the other but you adamantly state that anyone not agreeing with your brilliant ‘fact’ is crazy. You even go so far as to blame Glenn Beck, although how one man, totally removed from the story is to BLAME???????????????????? With geniuses like you we don’t need various opinions. All we have to do is follow you right off the cliff!

One can have a political position differing from Romney’s (I do) but to denigrate any one who even asks a question re: a recent occurrence in a dangerous world is now a ‘missile truther’. YOU have NO proof it wasn’t, only your idle and uninformed speculation, but you would label any one who differs or ask a reasonable question a kook. You bad mouth people who ask a reasonable question about birth rights as though YOU’VE seen the actual proof. Yet you offer NO factual concrete proof of your assertion that this was a contrail other than your totally uninformed ‘truth’! Pathetic!

I'm not so sure about the EMT attack, it is pure speculation and folks here could come up with even wilder theories. What is more interesting is looking at the root cause of the speculation.

The speculation is not the problem, the problem is that the media doesn't ask the questions they should ... leaving any one of "us" nutcases to come up with our own theory. Why the media ignores seeking the truth on events like this is breathtakingly amazing. Pulitzer Prizes are collecting dust on the shelves while reporters spend time analyzing the social ramifications of Grammy Awards rather than researching a foreign missile fired 30 miles off our shore.

What fun it would be to be a young reporter today. All you have to do is find ONE of these many stories, track it to its source, and you are set for life. Book deals, movies, talk shows ... fame! What opportunities they miss. Should I suppose this is trained out of them at reporter school (grade school?).

Me too.

And if it was a missile, traveling at, say a modest Mach 2.5, then there is no way it would have remained in view for 8 minutes. No way. And, Cruise missiles don't have a plume trail and while ICBMs launch with a plume, they fly a boost phase only as they rise up to enter a ballistic phase (with no rocket motor exhaust). They do not fly a flat trajectory.

Didn't you know, the lack of proof only proves how good the cover-up/conspiracy actually is.

I offer my own comment in Post 32, though not nearly as amusing and devastating as yours. Well done.

I've seen the optical illusion as described. To the average public it will look like a missile trail, but it is not. No way.

I've shot missiles and flown fighters for a career and this was clearly a jet contrail.

The helicopter pilot is just that, a helicopter pilot. Just because he flies helos doesn't make him an expert. He is not an expert witness when it comes to jets, contrails, jet engine exhaust condensation, high-performance flight at high altitude, judging speed, missiles, missile propulsion, etc.

The speed of the object was a great give away: if traveling at moderate speed (i.e., low Mach for a missile), there is no way it would have remained in view as long as it did. Further, missiles/rocket motors have a short burn time and never burn for “8 minutes” (that was observed), and that includes ICBMs as they have a boost phase that takes them vertical into a ballistic flight profile, peaking around 700 miles or higher. . .that is why they are “ballistic” missiles. Cruise missile do not fly a ballistic profile and they do not fly very high, as it is tactically unsound for a sub-sonic missile to do so. They also do not leave a smoke trail as they use an air-breathing motor. Besides, a smoke trail makes interception by a fighter soooo darned easy.

But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of a super-secret, double-inverted, triple-threat conspiracy theory.

“No normally sighted congizant human being is going to be fooled into thinking a horizontal airline contrail is a vertical missile plume for long." .

Notwithstanding how gullible the public actually are (election of Obama, anyone?).

Boy, you've written a lot, certainly much to think about. But, what I'm really curious about are the aliens - you know, the ones that come and visit you at night. When they come, and take you up into their spaceship, is their probing that takes place? Just curious.

'And if it was a missile, traveling at, say a modest Mach 2.5"....

This is all part of it (the conspiracy) man. The North Koreans have successfully launched an invisible, slow-motion ICBM from a sub that they don't have. That's the conspiracy. Get with the program.

Invisible, slow-motion, silent, stealthy, ICMB. The implications are frightening.

I didn’t know what to think of TWA 800 at the time.

Think about the fact that the FBI had declared the TWA 800 event an accident before the smoke cleared.
