A new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll offers what is, I think, a somewhat misleading way to look at Sarah Palin.
The poll finds that 59% of Americans and 40% of Republicans don't think she'd make an "effective president" -- numbers that come very close to disqualifying her even in the primary, if she chooses to run.
This trouble imagining President Palin is constant across the polling since soon after she was chosen as John McCain's running mate, and it reflects both her own lack of experience and the higher bar set for a woman -- Hillary Clinton did years of carefully projecting the kind of strength Mark Penn thought she needed to show to be a plausible contender. (Holmes and Traister think there's now space for a Palin on the left, but the poll numbers suggest otherwise to me.)
In any case, however, it's possible to adore and follow a political leader without wanting him or her to be President of the United States, or even thinking he or she is qualified. The most frequently drawn parallel with Palin is Jesse Jackson -- popular and respected on much of the left for a time, at least, seen as presidential by smaller numbers.
But the Daily Show's Jon Stewart may be a better example.

You’re beating a dead horse.
I know GlockThe Vote.
If Sarah runs, she has his time, his money, his support and her campaign has his legal expertise if she needs it.
Why did you waste my time by appearing to ask a sincere question about “Whats a concern troll?”.
If you wanted to be presumptuous enough to lecture me about catching out a Thune supporter playing concern troll, why didn’t you just do it rather than play games, and waste my time answering a superfluous post?
I did read the definition, and yes, you are correct, I did call him a liberal.
He was certainly behaving like one.
But that was only after he called me an “online martyr”. That is what he does. He decides what your motives are, much like a liberal yelling racism.
Kent may or may not be a liberal, but he has proudly adopted their tactics.
Thus, if you have legit concerns about Palin, according to Kent and his ilk you are a Troll.
He called me a liar (quite rude) and most of what he does is post silly pictures around here. Intellectual debate is not his thing. He is a dismisser. Very arrogant.
Hope you can see where I am coming from.
Oh, and I have included Kent, so as not to talk behind his back.
FR is a site for grown ups, and I don’t think Kent is acting like one. Just my opinion.
Then he could start by not beating the anti-Palin drum, for so long, in so many posts, on this thread alone, and then announcing that he actually supports Thune.
Sorry, but when someone spends so much time and effort working against a candidacy, then it is hard to believe that poster is not against that candidacy.
I had never seen the term “Concern Troll” until last Friday when a guy called me one.
So when I saw it again, I just thought I would ask. Then when you told me, I shared my disagreement.
I’m sorry you think I was being insincere. I wasn’t.
Dear God, I am not beating anything, I am for Sarah 100%. If she runs, she has my legal expertise, $$$, time, efforts, emotions, etc. What more can I say?
I want her where she will be most effective. My primary concern is that after the complate catastrophe that ZERO leacves, it may be impossible for anyone to get us out of, and I don’t want Sarah blamed for it, nort the horrific media attacks that will come her way 24/7/365.
If it seems she is more effective at getting conservatives elected to all sorts of posts, that is where she should be, if its POTUS fine.
However, I have to take note of realities in the nation. If someone else can beat sotetoro more easily, I have to look at that person since the next POTUS will have 1-3 possible SC picks.
There is a lot at stake here and we can’t fall on the sword for any one person if we have a chance to oust the communists.
Why is this so controversial?
Actually he did not call you and online martyr he said you were doing an online martyr act. You need to follow what poeple write more closely.
I find that I must read things twice if I feel that I have been insulted. These threads can be over stimulating at times.
You are right Kent should not have called you a liar, but he was responding to your words.
Good on the post to both of us, to many here forget that (me to sometimes)
Seriously. I can cook. At least think about it, all right...? ;)
Basically your posts are not pro-Thune, they are anti-Palin, she can’t win, she shouldn’t run, she will be destroyed if she tries, Palin just doesn’t have the stuff to become president, her family, blah, blah, blah.
If that is what you do to candidates that you like, then God save Palin if you ever turn against her and want to discourage her supporters and block her chances of winning the nomination.
No, not my type. Repeated posting of graphics to annoy is not my style.
Well then he called me an actor, i.e. liar. That’s the same thing as calling someone you don’t know a “troll” or whatever else, which happens alot around here. It’s lazy.
Rather than debate, just call ‘em a troll.
But I’m really not going to worry about it. People can think what they want.
You’re right about reading things twice. I will do that from now on.
For sure the attacks have taken their toll, no question. I am saying that ALL the polls are done by the MSM and that includes Fox! The people at Opinion Dynamics out of 1 of the New England States, has virtually pulled the wool over Fox`s eyes.
Now when News Week or CNN/NBC or Vanityfair/60 minutes do a poll on Sarah Palin, they are going into it looking for numbers that are far worse than they really are, that really was my main point. Assuming that they actually even call people, not sure that some of them actually make any calls, but when they do they stack it against her, certainly you can see that I hope???
They might one day ask adults over 18, then one day ask reg voters, but really they get the number they are looking for by just calling more dems or from a certain part of the country. They can get any number they like.
This particular poll in question was a vanity Fair/60 minute poll, that`s a first for me, they where trying to get the worst possible numbers on Sarah as they could. They went into it looking for poor numbers.
Why do you think they wanted a poll on her right at this very time.
None of the Pollsters can be completely trusted.
I don’t know Glock. I went thru the same thing Friday. Don’t waste time. It’s all or nothing with these people.
My wife and I are big Sarah supporters, and I live in CA, so I REALLY have to defend her here. And I do.
But around here I am a troll because I have reservations about a few things, “concerns”.
There are some hardcore Palin defenders who have actually become bullies...a mob that will shout you down and TROLL you if you don’t agree.
I just don’t worry about it. God and I both know how I feel about Sarah. I don’t need to approval of a bunch of random screen names on a message board to validate me.
Huh????? Can you show me one post I have that is
Anti-Palin? I adore the woman and will campaign for her, donate the mx I can, volunteer, etc.
My main goal is to defeat the communists in 2010 and 2012. And I think that should be everyones’ first goal.
Sarah obviously will have a huge role in that one way or the other and whatever it is, she has my support.
If you think that is Anti-Palin - you really need to re-assess who are the enemies of Palin - and trust me, its not me.
I post on other sites and am accused of being a Palin Bot. they would roll over laughing to hear anyone accuse me of being Anti-Sarah.
>> I seriously doubt that she believes it enough to try to act on it in real life
I doubt it as well. I think Sarah Palin will make not only an excellent domestic POTUS, but one of the best foreign policy leaders and CinCs we have ever had. She has principles, she believes America deserves its role as premier sovereign nation, and she is cool-headed, smart, and a fast learner too.
Sadly, I can see the left and the Republican establishment using this issue you bring up to paint her as an Armageddon nutjob a la Ahmanijihad. I trust she is anticipating that slander and has a plan ready to counteract it.
Almost everyone of your posts give reasons for Palin not to run, and for us not to support her running, and then you reveal that you support Thune. Thune isn’t even in the running, Palin is arguably the front-runner, and who do you support? Thune, while you make post after post why we should not support Palin for 2012.
To: ansel12
I like Thune for 2012.

That is not post 12 or post 13 on this thread. Where is your post from? And who posted it?
