Open Message to Mr. Beck (self proclaimed historian). Tonight on your TV show you said that you read the Confederate Constitution and I paraphrase "it had slavery written all over it, all about slavery blah blah blah". You are incorrect sir, I did a word search on the document and the word slavery appears "one" time. Everyone can try it for themselves at the link provided below.
Can never trust a Yankee, even a goofy entertaining one.
Read your articles of secession.
He makes many mistakes and they are coming more frequently.
I wonder who does his research.
Try to comprehend. That is not what he said, he was talking about the CS Constitution.
OK Sport, Ya want to take it up w/ David Barton(wallbuilders.com) he will clean your clock.
The Confederacy is dead. Move on.
The fact is the word appears one time. They are both liars like you. Try it yourself. Can you do a word search or do you need help? wallbuilder = liebuilder.
Try to comprehend. Never put yourself in the position of trying to defend Democrat history. Let Democrats defend Democrat history.
The articles of secession are where they lay out the reasons they are doing what they are doing, and slavery is reason number one. And not merely slavery, but the right to extend slavery to the western states. They are very clear.
The word ‘slave’ or ‘slaves’ appears 8 times. The word ‘slaveholding’ appears once. Sorry to upset your revisionist pap, but it was all about slavery.
If memory serves correctly, when I examined the CSA consititution, it was nearly identical, word for word, with the US constitution of the time.
Beck does seem to sometimes leave things out when giving info. I remember one show he blasted James Gandolfini for calling him The Great Satan, while with his kid. He waited till after the break to tell the audience that Gandolfini came to him and apoligized. I trust his info, but am starting to think he cares more about selling books while he’s popular than actually fixing anything.
I agree, the idea of secession ALIVE AND DOING WELL.
The various ordinances of secession of the Confederate States--along with the declaration of principles passed by the South Carolina legislature at the time of secession make it painfully clear that slavery was the paramount issue.
This is not Yankee pettifogging-- these documents are signed confessions!
In the Confederate lexicon both words mean the same thing, with one expression "property in slaves" saying it all.
Yup, the Constitution of the Confederacy is covered over with the linguistic appurtenances of human bondage (to be polite about it).
Clean whose clock on what topic? Either the Confederate Constitution *IS* all about slavery as Beck says, or it’s not and as Central_va suggests.
No need to get upset at anyone, lets just determine the facts. Notify Beck if he has made a mistake and he will issue a correction. Unlike many other Journos I’ve seem him do them, at the top of his show, has he promised he would.
His show is more improvisational than most other news TV and he, by his own admission, is a newbie who only started studying issues like this sometime after 2001. He doesn’t know as much as he’d like, he makes mistakes with distressing frequency.
Beck fans just have to deal with that.
I thought it was over the route of the trans-continental railroad! /s
Beck even got the title wrong. Said the original had the word slavery in the title. LOL.
Now THAT doesn't surprise me in the least. "The Constitution of the Slavery Confederate States of America"? Or maybe "The Slavery Constitution of the Confederate States of America"? ROTFLMAO!!! Can't the man even Google?
So, I guess your motto is ‘Lincoln’s fault’?
