Southerners looking to share their Confederate holiday

ATLANTA — In a cultural war that has pitted Old South against new, defenders of the Confederate legacy have opened a fresh front in their campaign to polish an image tarnished, they said, by people who do not respect Southern values.

With the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States in 2011, efforts are under way in statehouses, small towns and counties across the South to push for proclamations or legislation promoting Confederate history.

There was nothing noble about the Confederacy. Nothing.

I have been having the same thoughts about Abraham Lincoln.

“Therefore, although the North “won” a historic military victory, the USA “lost” in the whole and we are living in the wake of this tragic legacy today.”

Well spoken, Central_Va.

Won the battle but lost the war (so to speak), did they, to the great peril to us all.

Best Regards,

BR

Bears repeating.

And is as accurate as all your other southron myths.

The problem is that conservatives want a strong federal government also, they have forgotten what a Republic is themselves. I look at the Civil War as the end of the Republic. Because it “was about slavery”, the fact the the Federal Monster was created as a result of the war, is lost on all it seems. States are a joke. Everyone knows where the power is. It wasn’t always so, we truly were a Republic at one time.

But Davis was a centralizer also. And beacause we're rightfully frustrated today with the evil that is, it's easy to dismiss the evil that could have been had the Confederacy of slavery won. And while centralized government is the greater threat today, freedoms can also be stolen by local governments and the Confederacy contained many gun-grabbing, extorting and oppressing petty tyrants. Under Lincoln, the nation would have remained as it had been since Washington had the secessionists not tried to split the one nation into two camps. It was the Confederates who let the genie out of the bottle.

Can you name the last time that at least 50% of the northern states have voted for a conservative? 1984? And before that? You are a complete and utter moron. If the north lead the country we’d be no different than any other socialist country.

Here’s one thing that is not a myth. If this thread is indication, Yankees appear to the same arrogant, dismissive yahoo’s they were 140 years ago.

While you're at it, please explain why our fighting forces are disproportionately represented by southern fighters and underrepresented by northern fighters?

November 7, 2005 Who Bears the Burden? Demographic Characteristics of U.S. Military Recruits Before and After 9/11

http://www.heritage.org/research/nationalsecurity/cda05-08.cfm "The South is overrepresented among military recruits. It provided 42.2 percent of 1999 recruits and 41.0 percent of 2003 recruits but contained just 35.6 percent of the population ages 18 - 24."

"In addition to confirming the strong Southern military tradition, we also found an exceptional tendency for lower than average military participation in New England."

If you account for the racial differences in the two regions there is not anything purple about the south, dummy.
