Stimulus Package - The FairTax Revealed
No Compromises ^ | January 30, 2008 | ThoughtRogue

Posted on 02/04/2008 12:44:23 PM PST by Jefferson Paine

What the heck is the FairTax plan?

In light of all the recent Congressional support for a phony fiscal “stimulus” plan to ostensibly rescue the American economy from falling into the proverbial abyss, let’s take an honest look at an incredible, infinitely better plan - one that we hear a lot about these days. Were it to be implemented, economists project it would spark an unprecedented period of economic expansion in the United States, not to mention worldwide.

It has been gaining a huge grass-roots base in recent years and is steadily gaining support in Congress, but it is also garnering new levels of distortion and outright lies by its detractors who have a vested interest in keeping the Internal Revenue Code monstrosity just as it is, with its plethora of loopholes, of special favoritisms and punishments, incredibly wasteful complexity, and its merry band of enforcers - Big Bubba’s army of IRS agents. Rest assured, when you hear the FairTax plan demagogued and maligned with scary propaganda, these people either want to desperately hang on to their entrenched power at all costs, or they have never actually learned the FairTax’s specifics in their entirety, and thus, simply repeat someone else’s lies and distortions.

Why anyone who calls themselves a conservative would prefer a system that encourages corporations to buy politicians and exceptions, that punishes hard work, and that is one of the planks of the Communist Manifesto is beyond me.

Uh, yep. I’ve grown accustomed to the warmth and humanity of the anti-FT crowd. And the clarity of their logic is cetainly to be appreciated, as is the flowing prose in which they couch their unassailable intellectual positions.

Yep, just gotta luv ‘em...like a puppy. They just need a good rubbin’ every now and then. And, oh yeah, fresh water in the bowl. So, remember to flush.

Lock and Load.

I’m just compelled to call them out about the “cutesy” language. It gets tedious very quickly.

You know, xcamel, it is easy for you and the other nattering nabobs of negativism to hide behind your keyboards and dream up impossible worst case scenarios about what America will look like with a FairTax.

Likewise, it is easy for you to anonymously make negative smartass remarks about the FairTax and those of us who support the FairTax.

The facts are that a majority of the American people do not like the income tax or the IRS!

It is a very real problem, and many Americans are searching for a better way to fund the federal government.

We FairTax supporters are working to fix that specific problem.

OTOH, you and your nattering nabobs of negativism buddies, like the income tax (and the IRS), probably profit FRom it, and are selfishly working to keep the income tax and the IRS in place.

IOW, your present and future economic security is threatened by those of us who are working to replace the income tax with a National Retail Sales Tax and abolish the IRS.

For all we know, you are hired guns, possibly working at a LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist “think tank” (you may even be GASP!, IRS employees!), whose job description contains the phrase “do whatever you can to keep the FairTax FRom becoming law of the land” or words to that effect.

After all, you do seem to spend an inordinate amount of time on these threads bashing the FairTax.

Why don’t you come clean and admit your livelihood depends on the continuation of the income tax?

Once you admit that, you can then go find honest work, quit spending so much time and effort badmouthing the FairTax, and we’ll all be better off!

Both the fair tax and flat tax can become onerous burdens (that means really big and a pain in the check book) if the Congress and Senate can’t control spending.

I bought and read the Fair Tax book. It sure sounds good and I definitely want tax reform. The flat tax sounds good to me also, as many other countries have chosen that and have seen their economies flourish.

Whether a fair tax or a flat tax, the folks who control the amount of tax revenue levied upon us determine how much we pay. There is nothing to stop them from raising either tax higer and higher. So I believe, in the end, it is who we elect and send to Washington D.C. that matters and not so much the system.

I could not agree with you more, SatinDoll.

HST, the FairTax would, because of its transparency and visibility, it would be very, very difficult for the Congress to raise the rate or change the tax base without citizen awareness while the issue was being debated.

Currently, the plethora of federal taxes, and the hidden nature of most of them, works to the great advantage of those who would manipulate the tax system for their own gain or to raise additional revenue.

IOW, by the time the average citizen figures out that his tax burden has increased, it is too late.

The way our Congress works demands that we the citizens practice Eternal Vigilance!

No answers. Just personal attacks. The last resort of the losers. Just admit that you are a Marxist and LOVE the income tax and be done with it.

I do not speak for the others in your rant but you clearly misunderstand my position. The problem with the Federal Government is not INTAKE it is OUTFLOW. The FT does nothing to slow that down or get it under control. The IRS is a symptom of a GVMNT that is about useless and for all intents is broken. If you are going to change than fix the problem not the symptom.

Even in this article there are lies. Audits will not go away there is nothing in the bill that guarantees that for example. The author cannot even get the bill numbers correct.

Oh and lay off the name calling when you accuse others it is bad form. The majority of Americans will hate the FT if it is ever past. Humans have always hated the tax man. Remember Robin Hood?

If you abolish the IRS then tell me how the two "new" agencies are better.

I make no money from activities supporting taxation. all of my efforts are in the areas of production of goods and services. However, through careful research and patience I have reduced my Federal Income tax burden to ZERO. That option is available to all who want to read and learn how to do it. Everything is out there on the net.

So why are you so invested in the FT what will your income generation be from it?

I have seen your post to phil_will1 in yesterday's FairTax thread. Thank you for finally coming clean on your motives for your opposition to the FairTax, or should I say for your support of the current income tax.

I on the other hand, engineered the largest tax-free family business transfer ever up to that time, and successfully fought of a number of attempts by the IRS to get even the first bite at the apple.

No wonder you don't want a tax on consumption. Almost anything you buy with your after tax inheritance would be taxable.

My business continues to grow to just south of $200 million, in an industry that is currently running around like chicken little screaming "the sky is falling"...

OMG. You must be in the building supplies business. The slow down in housing starts must be pretty scary.

... in our industry, which is 80% retail.

At least you can sell home improvement supplies to homeowners and remodeling contractors. No wonder you are so concerned about that 23% (or 30%, depending on your perspective) sales tax.

I spend exactly zero time worrying about the IRS, or the income tax. That 65% that's left over is a mighty nice chunk of change, and allows me to perpetuate and grow the business, and keeping in fit shape for the next generation coming along shortly.

Just two more questions please. How can you spend any time growing your business if you are on FR 24/7? And, do you really pay 45% of what you earn to the IRS. If you did, you should be more supportive of the FairTax. Or, do you have an army of tax accountants and lawyers to provide you with ways to shelter most of your income so that you have no need for the FairTax?

Same problem we all have with it - illegal and unconstitutional spending. The FT is just lipstick and pearls on a pig, and they know it.

Ever wonder why they get so nasty when you question it?
Ever wonder why they wrap themselves in the flag and start singing “Onward Christian Soldiers” ??

Because the [enter pretty pony name here]-tax is just a focal point of rage for people who really aren’t very smart, can’t figure out why they never get out of a hole, are chronic tax-paranoids, and a whole host of other issues they can’t seem to resolve for whatever reason.

They insist that hand-to-hand combat with the great bear is more effective than just cutting off the food supply and waiting it out.

Oh well..

Is there some reason you can’t answer a post on the original thread?

Yesterday's thread was getting worn and tiresome. We have this new fresh one today.

These threads are like newspapers. News today, history yesterday.

Few of the posts on any of the FairTax threads ever stay on topic. Maybe the FR administrators could provide a button somewhere on the page so we could more easily rollover to the most current thread.
