So you finally know what happens to Harry. All our questions are answered. Or not. What are your reactions? Whose death hurt the most? Do you want more, and about whom?
SPOILERS are ok on this thread! You have been warned!
Wow. It's over.
You’re right, he would have seen it. I reread the King’s Cross chap. last night. ON pg.719 it says “At last he knew what DD would have seen when he looked int the Mirror of E. and why DD had been so understanding.....So obviously he looked in the mirror and did find out who killed Ariana. The answer may have been hard for DD.
but it would be a false vindication....
True! Now that makes sense. Thanks
Maybe she didn't want to shove religion and spirituality down the reader's throat, and also preach to them away from the message of "You choices make you who you are."
Ultimately, I found it refreshing that she didn't preach in the story, and it also will allow the readers to decide for themselves whether they want to go farther.
Or, I'm talking out my (ahem!) and don't know that I'm saying. (always possible)
I see your point, too, and I don’t think an overtly Christian message would have been appropriate to the story. I just think it’s inconsistent to have, for instance, celebrations of Christmas and Easter when (apparently) no character practices Christianity.
Rowling never actually said who Draco married. Parkinson was mentioned during the Hogwarts sequences but I forget in what context. Wouldn’t it be bizarre if he had married someone like Luna or Lavender?
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought that! I didn’t read it as everything was lollipops and pancakes, but that something was looming over the horizon.
Perhaps it was just that his experiences as a young man forever shaped his outlook...
Maybe he married Cho Chang.
The ending implies that Draco was "reformed"; he could be a gung-ho do-gooder for the rest of his life.
Nah, you’re forgetting that England, while extremely secularized, still celebrates Christmas and Easter. They’ve taken “C&E Christians” to a whole ‘nother level beyond us. I’ve confirmed this theory with an English friend of mine who used to be one of those types.
Some of us managed to study in high school, have fun in college, and still write fanfiction, though I avoided the worst teenage angst by just not participating in it. It doesn’t help write a good story, whatever 14 year old girls think.
I’ve never seen a newspaper article misspell Rowling’s name, considering they’d get about a hundred letters to the editor if they did, I think you’re just trolling. Like I said to the last troll, nobody made you click this thread.
But don’t you think the Moslems would have shut down Hogwarts because of the boar representation? (/s)
It’s still inconsistent ... like when characters in “Star Trek” say, “Oh my God!”
Not necessarily. Both holidays have become sufficiently secularized that many people celebrate them in some way, with the exception of those who have a religious reason NOT to do so.
Either way, it is a children's fantasy, and the childrearing is up to you and your husband. It certainly isn't mine to make for your kids, nor Rowling to decide.
But that is what makes it so great: personal choice and responsibility. Nice conservative values, ya think? 8-)
At the same time, it's probably very reflective of the state of the church in Britain.
So this morning on the way out the door Jr. says to me “why did Hedwig have to die?”
He’s been too busy/tired to read very far.
Everyone at the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw tables stood to defend Harry.
It was a great moment.
That'll take him right out of the suspension of disbelief. :-P
Sorry, but you must realize some people are not caught up in fantasy worlds. I did not say you were dumb nor do I call my kids dumb for reading this stuff and playing video games.
All I said was “you’ll see.” I really don’t want to spoil it for him.
No, but apparently you're still caught up in the fantasy that anyone around here gives a newt's patootie about your opinion.
Accygirl’s another great argument for an Ignore feature, isn’t she?
