So you finally know what happens to Harry. All our questions are answered. Or not. What are your reactions? Whose death hurt the most? Do you want more, and about whom?
SPOILERS are ok on this thread! You have been warned!
Wow. It's over.
As it should be... If you want to let your child read books meant for older children, that’s fine. But I don’t think that Rowlings should change her creative narrative because of that...
I also don’t think that the books and movies are appropriate for most young children. I treated my thirteen year old cousin to the latest HP movie and can tell you that many of the five and six year olds in the audience were scared out of their minds, but the parents didn’t seem to care a bit.
And most should be put in freeze dry until they enter college... :)
Nobody’s stopping you from debating Hermione and Ron’s future professions... Not my cup of tea, but to each his/ her own I guess...
Voldemort couldn't be killed as long as the hufflepuff cup was intact..It was a horcrux, and that bit of his soul that was in it would've prevented his death.
Good point. There's only one Alan Rickman, and we've seen too little of him on film over the years, IMO.
He couldn't "die" while there was still a piece of his soul residing in a Horcrux
Here's one time I advocate for single motherhood. I got the impression that Narcissa never really bought into the whole thing, but that Lucius sort of dragged her into it. Once she was caught up, she seemed truly disgusted by what was happening, as was Draco, but powerless to do anything about it.
Lucius can no longer deny that he was a willing participant, and a pompous blowhard. If for some reason he's not in Azkaban, I see his future being that of a bitter old man, alone, drowining his sorrows in firewhisky in the corner of Aberforth's pub telling the goats how he "used to be somebody!".
I don’t know if he has, and I’m not sure how to search for that. Maybe a google search?
He wouldn't be 100% dead, but he would be forced into dormancy, would he not? And I don't think the horcrux would be able to protect itself when the Order knew of its existence and whereabouts.
IMHO, that seems more likely than seeing his family whole again. But if that's what Dumbledore were to look for, he would find it. Remember what Dumbledore said about the mirror--how it imparts neither knowledge nor truth. He could be 'vindicated' by the mirror, but it would be a false vindication.
It's true. Snape holds the whole Harry Potter story together, at least for me.
It's Lily's love that protects Harry, and it's her love, reflected by Snape, which protects not only Harry but all the students.
Snape is the most tragically misunderstood, unrequited, delicious character in the whole series.
I agree that the failure to mention the rest of Europe, at least, is a gap. I was disappointed, too, that nothing was said about the Muggle government at all - the scenes with the Prime Minister in “Half-Blood Prince” were clever.
Begone troll. I told you I was tired of arguing with you.
" ... it's 'Levio-sAh' not 'Levio-sOh'. No wonder she hasn't got any friends."
I would like a series on Dumbledore. :)
I found that section a little tedious, but I think the point was the testing of the association of Harry, Ron and Hermione. Would the friendship and/or romantic association stand up to the demands of the "quest," or not.
Ron is like the son in the parable who says, "I won't go work in the vineyard," but then does anyway.
And speaking of the Bible references, I have to say I didn't really like how that was done. The holidays, the churches and cemeteries, the occasional "Thank God!" and yet nobody, Muggle or magical, is observant of any religion. I found it very inconsistent.
As with "Lord of the Rings," I found the absence of faith in God from the narrative context creates a sense of existential despair that is not overcome by the feel-good "happy ending." No matter how noble the pagans, all endings are death and damnation without the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ. And yes, I get all the typology and symbolism ... but that doesn't still doesn't fill the gaping hole in the milieu, in my opinion.
Has Alan Rickman done a lot of audio books? I’ll have to do a search on amazon...
If you find out which ones please post them. I love his voice. :)
