So you finally know what happens to Harry. All our questions are answered. Or not. What are your reactions? Whose death hurt the most? Do you want more, and about whom?
SPOILERS are ok on this thread! You have been warned!
Wow. It's over.
At a panel discussion at this past year's Lunacon (in Rye, NY) with a couple of Potter fanatics, I brought up Narcissa and made a comparison to that freaky-looking mother on "24" a couple of seasons ago who was ready to betray her cause for the sake of her son. They nodded agreement, and then murmured something about, "And look what happened to the kid!"
Narcissa should've been thanked (or at least acknowledged) along the way. Without her, the war would've been lost right there. (Granted the book was getting a little long by that point, so maybe not...)
I was convinced that the doe Patronus was from a girl. Fooled me with that.
Me too, I kept thinking it was Ginny. Her doe to Harry’s stag. :/
I liked how she distracted everyone simply by being herself at the end.
Didn’t see it coming that Voldy would kill him while believing that he was still loyal. At the very least, I was expecting that he would accuse Snape of having switched wands with DD or had somehow planted a fake......
I didn’t see that one either! But that is exactly how a dictator would behave, look at Hitler or Saddam, you could definately see them killing one of their loyal minions to further their power. That was a powerful, gripping scene, because you could tell Snape knew it was coming.
That was the final impression I got.
Up until then, I thought it had been wishful thinking on the part of Bellatrix, akin to that reporterette who wanted to thank Clinton in a special way for keeping abortion legal.
Oddly enough, if they had been lovers, they would've been the series' only set of unmarried lovers doing the nasty. What evil, evil people.

okay, I am half-joking, but it is primarily a kids' book, so I knew that Ron and Hermione would finally kiss, but nothing more before the final battle had arrived and Ron was dragged to the alta... er, I mean, Voldermort was taken down . . .
No, I go back to Dumbledore saying that V acts alone, and doesn't really trust anyone. Not that Bellatrix didn't want it, but I think Voldemort was above anything quite so human.
I disagree. Hermoine is always the one that casts the last minute, life-saving spell. She's always the one that comes up with the answer to the problem. She's always portrayed as being nearly flawless with magic and having all the answers. Even Harry looks like an incompetent goof next to her.
I was hoping that Rowling would have Ron "come into his own" in this book. Poor 'ol Ron never uses magic it seems. He's just kind of there.
I thought I'd remember her saying it was going to be, and yes I was wondering about that. Especially since the ending doesn't seem like it was adapted for anything that happened after book 1.
Ms. Rowling knew she'd need to create a baby named "Teddy" sometime, and she'd need a plausible relation between a Weasley and someone French; but further details would be unimportant. When Nymphadora's dad entered later on, he was named so his grandson could meet the requirement. And of course Fleur could barry Bill.
Really, what information is there in the epilogue that isn't in Book 1?
While there were a few details in later books which were made to fit the ending, the ending ignores the later books. When Ms. Rowling wrote the ending, she probably had no idea that there would be a Luna Lovegood, nor a Nymphadora Tonks, nor Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Delores Unbridge, et al. Consequently, all those characters are effetively ignored.
Not a hobbit, an Ewok! Warwick Davis who plays Flitwick has grown 7 inches from when he played the lead Ewok, Wicket, in Return of the Jedi at a then 2'11''.
Teddy was Remus and Tonk's baby; named after her father, Ted.
Well it did take the Brits, in the person of Dumbledore, five years to rescue Europe from Grindelwald. LV's dictorship was briefer than that.
Really, what information is there in the epilogue that isn't in Book 1?
A poster on this thread yesterday said that he re-read Book 1 after Book 7 and that everything in Book 7 is completely set up in Book 1.
Interesting.
Yes, but since Ms. Rowling indicated that she'd written the last chapter of book 7 many years ago, I suspect Ted was named to fit the already-named Teddy, not vice versa.
There is another way their destruction could be credited:
Five destroyed by his Basilisk's poison: the diary, the cup, and after being absorbed by the by sword, the ring, locket and finally the other snake.
One by his Death Eater Crabbe's son's spell.
One (and the final LV part as well) by LV himself.
Thus LV was killed by a favorite pet, his dumbest supporter, and two doses of personal stupidity. Use that as his epitaph!
Well, certainly the characters suffered to varying degrees, but Ginny’s possession was significantly more dramatic. I found it strange since emotionally, Ron was probably at least as close to Harry as Ginny was to Riddle’s diary. Perhaps the answer is that Harry also had a “non-horcrux” component to him, while the diary was entirely a horcrux, with very little characteristic otherwise. Dumbledore mentions, when discussing Nagini, that it is unwise to use a living creature as a horcrux, since the living creature also has free will, which presumably interfers with horcrux function. I guess Harry’s free will overcame his horcruxian (?) tendencies?
With the infant mortality rates where they were back when that was probably first used, a sadly realistic one - then.
Part of it could be the different things used as horcruxes. The diary, being a clear recording of Voldy’s thoughts, was pretty well suited to channeling him even before resurrecting him. The scar in Harry, a Voldy didn’t even try to make, was so much. And there’s still the problem of Ginny double dipping the horcruxes. But I still think there was plenty of badness to go around for Harry’s horcrux, he’s a serious bad luck magnet.
