She wrote BOTH the last chapter and the epilogue years ago, or just the epilogue?

I'd be willing to bet cash that the epilogue was already written. I'd guess that the last chapter was, too -- though it probably needed a lot of revision based on the later books -- but I don't really know about that.

Now that is a tragic ending.

Boy, that's the truth! Snape is really quite close to a classical tragic hero. He could have had the girl he wanted, and the life he wanted, but he couldn't let go of his corrupting hatred for his father.

Oh, no, it wasn’t unnecessary. Un-pleasant, sad, jaw-dropping, yes. But once that happen, you thought, “Oh, crud — they could ALL die!”

And that was the point.

Does anyone know what the front cover of the American version is supposed to be? I don’t know if I read it too fast or just need more fish oil for my memory!

PS -- ever see this?

If not, you'll thank me. When you finish laughing.

Lily was the one good thing in his life, and Snape wanted Lily's eyes to be the last thing he ever saw.
Now that is a tragic ending.

I'm not sure, but the British Adult version has the Slytherin Locket on it. Don't know about the British kids version, though, I couldn't see the cover very well on Amazonuk.

LMAO! My cat would wait until I was in the middle of the page and lay down right in the middle of the book.

Joss Whedon et al had no right to kill Wash.

Yeah, that was pretty bad. Folks yelled out "NO!" in the theater when that happened. It was just so unexpected!

I'm guessing, considering Harry & Voldie are both there, surrounded by debris and a large number of (silhouetted) onlookers, that it's their final showdown in the great hall, with both of them appealing to the crowd - Harry for them to stand back, Voldie for them to stop having faith in Harry.

It certainly upped the stakes for the last 15 minutes of the movie, it really looked like he was going to start offing the characters one by one. Very effective, but sad, Wash had such great throw away lines.

It's the final confrontation in the Great Hall. Harry disarms LV with Expelliarmus. They both watch the Elder Wand fly into the air. Harry reaches up to catch it as LV falls backward.

The only difference is that in the book, Harry is holding Draco's wand, and no wands are shown on the cover art. I assume Mary GrandPré left the wands out completely because to show just Harry with a wand would have given too much away.

Check out pg. 743&744.

I was 100% sure parents were going to die in this book. Of course my prediction was that it would be one of the Weasley parents so I can’t really take full credit for that one. My predicted deader list was a Weasley parent, a Weasley child not Ron or Ginny, a member of Hogwarts’ faculty known to be a good guy (ie not Snape), and some member of DA. I also thought Moody would lose another body part. I’m glad I was so close and yet so wrong, I think the characters she killed off was a more effective selection for keeping up the tension and driving home the point that you don’t all get to walk away after confronting evil.

Agreed. Only sheep should reproduce. More little lambs for the slaughter.

Should have been Jayne, instead. Hired muscle is easier to replace than wisecracking pilots ;)

You’re quite rude.

If both people in a couple want to work a risky job, it is irresponsible to have children.
