The Candidate (Rudy Giuliani in NH)
The American Spectator ^ | 1/29/2007 | Philip Klein

Posted on 01/29/2007 1:36:27 PM PST by Dark Skies

Many skeptics continue to question whether Rudy Giuliani is serious about making a run for the White House, but it was abundantly clear on Saturday that he had come to Manchester for more than the sub-freezing temperatures.

Addressing over 500 activists at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting as part of a two-day swing through the state, Giuliani sketched the broad outlines of what looks like a presidential run. Sounding at times like a motivational speaker, Giuliani cautioned against cynicism and pessimism in the wake of November's election results and challenges in the ongoing War on Terror. The message especially resonated with the audience in this critical primary state, where the Republican Party just lost control of both chambers of the legislature for the first time since the 1870s.

"The best way we remain safe and we retain our freedom...is remaining on offense, remaining strong and not becoming weak in a time of pressure," Giuliani said in a line that drew the biggest applause from the crowd at the Palace Theater.

The intolerance toward various groups as espoused by several posters was certainly symptomatic

Hmmm, once again, your side implied my side was Klan. Nice company you keep.

I have already used the 'ANIMAL FARM' analogy, that some posters are more EQUAL then others.

The reason I didn't post Rudy's or McCain's names is that I think either one can beat Hillary, Obama, or Edwards.

Know people all over the Country from our moves and each one of them in their areas is saying the same thing I am hearing in Oklahoma. Every consultant I have talked with in addition to others has the same take -- likeable, can raise big bucks, ability to reach across all spectrums of the electorate in appeal is the only person they believe can beat the DemocRATs. When it comes down to Rudy or McCain that is a no brainer for me or for others I know and why we support Rudy. My #1 priority is beating the DemocRATs with the best possible candidate who can give 80% of what I believe as long as they are tough as nails on national security and the WOT.

If we are going to win nationally, Republicans cannot win unless our candidate is tough on WOT and the defense of this Country as the overriding factor for Republicans to get out and vote. A lot of voters are fed up with what they have been seeing with candidates that we have put up and why we have lost so many Governorships. Too many people do not look at who the Dems are running and it is costing us big time. It is a chess match and we are losing. We have to be smarter and run candidates that will appeal to a cross section of voters whether we like it or not. When Oklahoma trends Dem because of the candidates nominated in the primary, we are in trouble. We being Republicans.

Let me give you an example of registered voters in OK which is considered not only a red state but a completely red state from 2004:

Democrats: 1,045,490
Republicans: 805, 607
Indy's: 224,464

If we received every Indy vote and every Republican vote, we still don't have more than the Democrats.

Now look at the Governor's race in 2006 where a Republican social conservative was running and keep in mind that every County in Oklahoma went for Pres Bush:

Henry (D) Votes: 616,135
Istook (R) Votes: 310,327 (only a little over 4,000 votes shy of being beat 2-1)

Oklahoma County -- Republican:

Henry (D): 110,726
Istook (R): 64,987

Registered (D): 166,511
Registered (R): 174,576
Registered (I): 51,194

We are in a state that is conservative and statewide we cannot elect a social conservative Governor and instead elected a very liberal pro-Hillary Governor for four more years and this state cannot stand Hillary.

Those are the facts from the Oklahoma Election Board. We are now forced in Oklahoma to look to form coalitions to elect Senator Inhofe and beg people to come out to vote. We have a lot of social conservatives that don't like him and want to run someone against him because his primary focus is on national defense for our military, environment (fighting the wackos), and on Intelligence. That is cutting your nose off despite your face IMHO because he is a very reliable conservative. BTW, those are the same people that help give us Ernest Istook to run for Governor.

A wise woman once told me who was the first Republican elected to the State House south of OKC, who was also a member of an Indian tribe and believed fervently in social conservatism that she was afraid when they came into power they wouldn't be able to handle leadership. Unfortunately, she was right as they have put social issues above infrastructure and doing what we elected them to do and that was to cut Government. Instead they have become vindictive against any Republican that doesn't march in lockstep.

Sad day for the Conservative movement which includes various conservatives not just social conservatives. Not going to find a 'true' conservative who can win nationally IMHO.

MSM will trash any of our candidates and the only one that I feel can stand up to all of that is Rudy. I am not taking a chance in 2008 on who I support for President because we have to win. Guess I am not considered a 'true' conservative because I believe that you win outright not just moral victories. Moral victores get us more liberal judges and I am not willing to take a chance. Rudy supported Scalia for Chief Justice and supported Roberts and Alito as the type of judges today that are needed and has pledge to support strict constitutionalist judges but being a prosecuter I would expect no less.

My more than two cents on why Rudy and McCain were not included in my analysis.

Then go ahead and put $500.00 on him at 200 -1 you'll make a cool hundred grand.

Hey I'd love to see him win I just HIGHLY doubt he can.

St. Rudy will go down faster than his police commissioner did. The guy is being propped for the nomination by the MSM because he is so easy to destroy. And he will be destroyed.

The Celebrity worshipers here are clueless. They see Rudy with a dusk mask and a bullhorn wandering around lower Manhattan. Hero St. Rudy... If, and I mean if he makes it to the podium, he will be crushed.

I waiting to hear whether Rudy posters are going to be asked to leave, or worse, to shut up.

You're still posting, aren't you?

Methinks you want one of two things - to create a Rudy zone on FR where criticism is not allowed.

Failing that, you want to be able to stomp away from FR in a sanctimonious huff. We went through this back in 1999, so it ain't like we haven't seen this approach before.

I am the Conservative right wing, and I won't stay home. I never do. I hope a Reaganesque candidate emerges. I truly do. But I won't punish the American people by inflicting a Democrat upon them, in the case that Rudy or McCain is the nominee. Just my 2 cents. :)

Why do you think the Dems have issued ten negative press releases for Romney and all of one for Rudy, the front-runner?

Very well stated.

If we are not free to post in support of Rudy, then we will honor the owner's request and leave if that is what he wants. Count me in because I am not going to work and support a candidate I don't believe can win the general election. President wasn't conservative enough for them in 2000 either.

The Rudy haters have been allowed to trash us up one side and down the other even calling us abortionists because we support Rudy as Conservatives. Now they are on top of the world because of the owner's comments.

Let us know when you get a response.

Thanks again!

Grace under pressure. ...Which Rudy had plenty of the weeks following 9/11. You must of had your TV off that day.

No, I had my TV on, I had to make sure my wife was okay. Luckily her office was in midtown. My lifelong friend Jim wasn't as lucky, he was on the 105th floor and died that day.

So Rudy didn't turn into Ray Nagin and actually did his job. Got anything else?

Rudy - The Media's choice (runner up) to oppose their true favorite, Her Royal Heinous. Too liberal. Swing voters would probably prefer an honest to God (Democrat) liberal homosexual/abortionist vs a pretend Republican liberal. Conservative right-wing will probably stay home.

McCain(e) - The Media's first choice to oppose their true favorite Her Royal Heinous. Corrupt, backstabbing, 1st amendment hating turncoat RINO. Swing voters would probably prefer a real honest to God corrupt, backstabbing Democrat. Conservative right-wing will probably stay home.

Exactly and exactly. Worth repeating!

Both McCain and Rudy are poison to the GOP conservative base. That's why the media loves them.

Notice Sunsongs modus operandi here. pose a stupid question, then go on and on and on and on and on until people get so sick of the stupidity they walk away. Spam the hell out of the thread, while adding absolutely nothing to the debate. Sunsong is all hat and no head to put it on. Doing the least of anyone on the pro Rudy camp, and creating the most problems for them (outside of the KKK name calling psycho-freep).
